Most Portuguese will tell you Ronaldo shouldn't even be playing which is true, but we will still have his back while he is there.

I’m Portuguese and I didn’t experience the golden generations from the early 2000s and 90s. I experienced every generation between those and this one, and I definitely sense they’re more united than the previous ones. Or maybe they’re better at showcasing it now.
Most of this squad is pretty much the same from the Nation’s League and the Qatar World Cup so, realistically, they’ve already built more solid relationships with each other from spending all that time together. Regardless, it’s good to see. Every day it gets more and more obvious that it’s the media trying to create misunderstandings in the squad. It was nice to hear Pepe calling them “a family” and say that their discussions behind the scenes are private, after a journalist tried to ask him if one of the players got told off after a bad performance.
Yeah sure, that must be why Ronaldo took every single free kick from the younger players, threw away free kicks in crossing positions because he wanted to shoot directly, took the penalty too of course and missed it, and missed multiple chances during the game. Real "togetherness". He is desperate to cling to his superstardom and is to this day childish in his desperation to be the one to shine in every game he plays.

Don't let this distract you that this guy did a terrible job as a coach this game. CR7 will always be a legend, and it is saddening to see him on a field crying, but the coach's job is to win. Benching Vitinha, who was one of the game s best performers, and letting Pepe stay for 115 minutes? This game was saved by Diogo Costa, who might very well just had the single best goalkeeping performance of the entire tournament.
100%. No way should a 41 and 39 year old be playing for that many minutes. Both are legends but they need to be subbed in now or taken off early. France are physically strong, quick and played less minutes. Hopefully Martinez makes the right decisions or Portugal will get blown away

Sporting players are great, fantastic even, but it would be harder for him to take them and get the best out of them when they play a different tactical system and don’t have the same synergies than the rest of the squad. Don’t get me wrong, of course Portugal could be tactically stronger with the players they have, but a NT coach does not get the luxury of time, and has a lot to do in regards to controlling egos.

He's good, but personally I think Portugal should have substituted Ronaldo and Pepe during extra time. Pepe caused a big chance for Sesko, which on a better day would have been finished. Ronaldo scored a good penalty, but overall he missed many chances today. He is a great player, however, I feel Portugal wasted a lot of energy in this match and will feel a tough test against France. All respect to Slovenia, who played an exceptional match.

Last night I cried tears when Ronaldo stepped up to take the penalty. I've been in a similar situation. The failure who has been trusted to be a leader...that feeling of everyone watching waiting to see if you'll fail again or not is one of the hardest feelings I've ever had to endure. Missed so many chances, squandered so many free kicks, caught offside multiple times, mistimed his jumps for headers, inaccurate with his forward passing, failed the majority of his dribbles, waving his arms at the refs, missed a pen when his country needed him most, cried during the game instead of being a leader.
Obviously he isn't the goat for anyone who understands football, but I've always respected him for what he's achieved. Sad to say it, but it's over.

We're lucky to have seen him play. He's a legend. His skills are not the same as when he was 25 but he brings maturity, experience, leadership and resilience to this team.
