we will genuinely never ever see a player quite like Wayne Rooney ever again. We've seen players come in that have similar qualities, but none of them have ALL the same qualities. He was the ultimate attacking footballer.

For me, watching him play out of position was probably what impressed me the most. Of course an AMAZING striker, but what makes him untouchable as the best in England and definitely one of the best among legends is, he was just so good at everything else too. He could really do it all and better than most.
Wayne is up there with Sir Bobby, Georgie Best, Duncan Edwards as absolute world class legends. I am thankful that I’ve seen all 4 in their prime!

He's not underrated. He's thought of highly by anyone who's ever watched the game. Did you not watch the video? It is literally a 'whose who' of celebs waxing lyrical about the great man. He is not underrated at all. Is he overlooked when people mention the greats, especially when talking about the Premier league, or players who left a lasting impression on the game? Absolutely.

Still remember that entire game to this day. The legends on the pitch. Maldini Seedorf Kaka Scholes Pirlo Rooney Ronaldo Giggs and Rooney and Kaka were the best players that night. United won 3-2 but it’s a shame they lost the return leg 3-0. But next year in 2008 they won the UCL.

Rooney is the only striker to cover the entire pitch almost every game and still come up with great goals and assists. He was a player who only cares about the team winning. He was never interested in individual awards. He was as good as any player in his generation. He work so hard for the team so much that people forget how good he was.

I was 6 years old, didn't knew a thing about football, couldn't even watch it since I had no cable tv at home but what got me into football was watching Wayne Rooney play for Manchester United on the tv at the MacDonald's near my house.
I'm my opinion the best player I've ever watched and the most unique player the world has ever seen! Never be another like him and never was!

As a 90s kid growing up in my prime Rooney without doubt is the best player and my favourite
The reason Rooney isn’t always remebered that well is the second half of his career was mid by his exceptional standards. He peaked early, gained weight and ran himself to the ground. He was basically a CM who didn’t score more than 15-20 per season for like 4-5 years and finished at top level by 30. Less talented players like Kane have aged better, peaked later
Agreed. I think 13/14 was the last seriously good Rooney season but at least we got a solid decade out of the lad. I don’t know if it’s even possible to play the way Rooney played for much longer than that - the guy was a human firework from 17-27. Was always going to burn out.
Beautiful compilation, reminiscent of what some of the best players in the world used to say about Scholesy , albeit totally different players. Wayne was a genius. I remember being in Miami that summer visiting my dad ( a huge Utd fan and the reason i support the club) telling him " dad dad we have to sign this kid he's something I've never seen before " . There was no actual bid or even media interest from Utd for Roo but i knew he was a Man U player that young. We got him ahead of Newcastle and the rest is history! Up there with Best as one of our greatest ever players.

People can disagree if they want, but as a United fan, I can’t praise him highly enough. 18 years old, coming to one of the biggest clubs in the world and scoring a hattrick. And then going on to be the all time top scorer despite years where he was more of a creator than a goal scorer.

Rooney was his own player and was undoubtedly one of the greatest legends to ever live and he played for 2 clubs in the prem in Everton twice and MU throughout all his career and scoring one of the greatest overhead kick goals against Man City and to win nobody has ever done that again and to score from basically the halfway line while David Beckham was watching was magnificent lol even Beckham was in shock from that goal from Rooney

So glad as a United fan to have witnessed him live at a number of games. A phenomenal player and I don’t say that lightly. He could’ve scored much had he been more selfish and didn’t sacrifice his natural position to play in other positions. One of those players we didn't quite appreciate until they are gone. As an englishman there are others, the likes of ashley cole and even players like ledley king etc. As for foreign players busquets comes to mind.
