Very slick production! As a former DHC employee, with a little bit of Beaver time from by bush days, some of the shots gave me tingles. You should do a video on how Alaska figures prominently in the Beaver's US military career. The Beaver was actually built to the results of a cross-Canada operator survey, with as many operator-defined features as possible, and they didn't expect to sell more than a few hundred, until Sales Director Russ Bannock's (a former Mosquito pilot) trip to Alaska to take some generals on a fishing trip to an "inaccessible" gravel bar. It was the beginning of DeHavilland Canada's status as kind of "official supplier of utility transports" to the US Army, up into the mid s 60s with the Beaver, Otter and Caribou, and Buffalo as well going forward (4 Buff prototypes were tested for SF support in Vietnam in '65), until the Army lost a feud with the Air Force over fixed wing aviation and gave up all its fixed wing a/c over 12000 lbs to the AF, who were uninterested in anything smaller than a Herc. The Army Caribous went to the AF in Vietnam, then to the SVAF. I was a production mechanic on the Buff in the late 70s during its last production run.

Honestly, do Americans feel a need to glorify all things related to War? Even when some things had nothing to do with War? The deHaviland Beaver was designed by and for bush pilots serving prospectors, fishers, hunters, and fly-in Canadian communities. That the US military ordered about a thousand of them is a testament to the versatility of the aircraft.

People spend entire summers up here cruising around up here and you still see something different up here everyday! Same with flying bush plane up here! No place compares, simple!

I do truly do apologize for you statement that the bevervwas built for war as untrue as it could be the plane was designed for the Canadian north.. and it never had a intended military customer that came about by fluke it was just a perfect fit as a stol bush plane in particular on water primarily and not wheels infact out of the 1600+ I would bet 90% spend most of the year on flots and the rest on skis. New it cost around 30,000 with flots today it's well over 300,000.00 I have heard some have been sold for over 1 million. The best feature is its wing won't ever time out if maintained and not abused. The PW Wasp eng was overpowered backbone of the little 3/4 ton 4X4 flying pickup truck. Souped up with a turboprop and there's very few mountains you can't fly over

      DHC-1 Chipmunk,
      DHC-2 Beaver,
      DHC-3 Otter,
      DHC-4 Caribou,
      DHC-5 Buffalo,
      DHC-6 Twin Otter,
and then they lost the animal naming with the DHC Dash7 (four engines and pressurised cabin) and the Dash8.
Ryan, the Beaver wasn't made for war, quite the opposite. It was made by talented warplane designers at De Havilland Canada tasked with making a commercially viable plane for peacetime when the warplane contracts ran out.
That the US Army became the main customer is a reflection of DHC's design skill. A utility plane designed for war would be like the Helio Courier, a few good ideas thrown together quickly, not really tested properly, hard to maintain and not very survivable in a crash.
I was hoping you'd find a family of beavers inside the cockpit when you opened the door.
The Canadians commemorate the Mk1 Beaver floatplane on one of their coins.
And Beavers are awesome, along with the Twin Otter.

Got a canoe you need up there? No sweat, we’ll tie one to the lift struts! I met a beaver pilot from AK once that marked his floats for fresh and salt water. He could put more weight on it in salt (flying salmon from ships at sea) than he could keep afloat in fresh water. TRULY a LEGENDARY AIRPLANE!

Any of you AK pilots here in southeast ever come across Michelle Madden. Owner/ operator of island wings out of Ketchikan? I have been fortunate to fly with her many times in her de havellend on floats that she has had for years, one one cleanest, custom ized ones you will see anywhere, she has been flying Southeast AK for years. I have flown with some of best bush pilots in Alaska, and Michelle is up there with the best, it helps that she was shown the ropes by old crusty Southest AK pilots! Check out her beautiful floatplane at island wings web, you will see what I mean.

Alaska Seaplane Tours , Thanks for the response, I hope you all are hanging in there, I know most of your business is from the cruise ship passengers doing the misty fjords tours, you still operating this summer? I am on Kodiak, it’s hurt the floatplane operators here also, most flights here are brown bear viewing and fishermen drop offs, and it’s way down here also.

Great footage, but the music is completely not the right category for this footage. This footage should have some more refined music which gives the film a deeper impression, not dubstep.
