    If 4 Broadway stars broke into your school/uni/work, who would you want it to be? I'll start (in no particular order):
    1. Amber Gray
    2. Idina Menzel
    3. Leslie Odom Jr.
    4. Sierra Boggess

      Not to mention all four have amazing voices and very unique ways to embody their characters, they are also very eloquent speakers and seem to be very genuine people.

    You should react to Fun Home if you don’t already know it! It’s a musical about lesbian cartoonist Alison Bechdel (most well known for creating the Bechdel Test) and her relationship with her father based off the autobiographical graphic novel of the same name, and it’s absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time.

  • @mireiaalmena7258

    Yeah I also wish Emma and Alyssa had more interactions, because they really don't have many in the show and Alyssa, as much as I love her, barely appears, so I'm hoping we get a bit more in the movie. But yeah I think if you see the thing, you'll like the Broadway actors a lot more, Barry actually has a lot of heart; but my favorites are Angie and Trent even tho there not as promintent, and I do think they're kinder since the beginning. I think you'll understand the plot a lot better with the film in general, and get ready to see some amazing dancing, just from the trailer the choreos look amazing and in the show they were insane (at least to me, but I don't really know how to dance lol)
    But I'm glad you liked Emma so much!! She and Alyssa (and the whole show really) have a super special place in my heart as well as Caitlin Kinunnen and Izzy McCalla, and I hope their energy gets translated well into the movie. Also yeah Beth Leavel is just incredible and I can't wait to see how Maryl Streep does Dee Dee.
    Lovely video as always! It just gave me all the energy I needed to study the whole morning so I can watch the film later! Also would love to see that reaction to Tonight Belongs to Us, cause it's one of my favorite songs from the soundtrack, if that's not a problem. Have a fantastic day and I hope you enjoy the movie

      Have you read the book it’s completely Emma and Alyssa focused
      I think it a tad too heavy considering they constantly throw indirect at Dee Dee and the Principle without being direct and I found the first person a little cringy

    • @mireiaalmena7258
      @mireiaalmena7258 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Barbara2.0 I loved it!!! I’m sad they cut a few songs but gosh I loved the focus on Emma and Alyssa on It’s Time to Dance and it was precious to see a room filled with so many different people! And Unruly Heart got to me a little 😭 Love Thy Neighbour was incredible!
      They completely added the Barry’s mom subplot and I’m a little conflicted about it tbh. I probably compared it too much to the show but well I really liked it, I’ll totally be rewatching!

      I was a bit frustrated about the song cutting at first as well, but then I realised having them in full wouldn't really add much to the plot anyway
      I am completely in love with Emma to be honest. Her positivity despite all the hate she gets is so heartwarming and inspiring. What a lovely character

  • @DylanSargesson
    @DylanSargesson 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Whether you agree with it or not, a message of the show is that a single song is capable of achieving social change or people's attitudes ("Unruly Hearts", "Love thy Neighbour", "The Lady's Improving" etc.)

    Oh my lord! This was so cute, I loved how excited you got about this soundtrack. This was perfect timing, I just finished watching the movie. I agree that it's choice to have the focus centered on the Broadway stars and not the girls, but I don't really mind it, as it is sort of a 'feel good' musical. While the musical doesn't necessarily revolve around Emma, all the characters narratives revolves around her, so she' still the center of the story, if that makes sense. I loved this reaction, take care! Much love ❤

    The live version of "Unruly Heart" is truly chills-inducing. The way each of the queer teens step up and share their voice and then join together from separate worlds but in one song makes me tear up. The recording on TH-cam actually has an audience member full-on weeping in the background.

    Ok YES I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO FOR AGES I love the Prom so much also you should listen to Fun Home if you liked this musical now here is my long lists of comments/thoughts I had while watching this video (warning there is more than I originally thought):
    1. I think the intro works because you need to build up sympathy for the Broadway actors but you don't need to be convinced to like Emma b/c unless you're a homophobic asshole you already feel sympathy for her and want her to get what she wants
    2. Yes Just Breathe is when we first meet Emma and yes she is a wholesome bean who deserves the world
    3. The reason the Acceptance Song is so close to the beginning is because the actors need to learn that just telling people to accept Emma isn't gonna work because it's the Midwest and is notorious for a Christian vale and just telling people to get over their hatred isn't gonna work
    4. I mean I still find You Happened cute also its a needed song b/c you cant have a Prom musical without some fricking promposals
    5. I've never thought about it before but I think there is a very small 60s vibe especially in You Happened
    6. Your singing and dancing is adorable omg
    7. We Look to You makes me miss Broadway soo much
    8. Holy shit I like your interpretation that's incredible I never thought about it like that before
    9. What happened to Tonight Belongs to You?
    10. I'm honestly still upset that they cut Tonight Belongs to You reprise from the soundtrack b/c it's such a big story detail that you miss out on aka (kinda spoiler) Emma is given a fake prom and is devastated by that fact also it never fails to make me cry
    11.There's a monologue that is before Zazz that basically goes into the story/explanation of what Zazz is
    12. I mean I like that advice turn your shaking into jazz hands so no one knows how scared you are is honestly genius
    13.I wish that would be an amazing life if that was the case
    14. let's just say that the principal lost his fanboyness towards DeeDee and then gained it back after this song
    15. yes it's also the song we can throw in the face of hypocritical Christians
    16. ah yes welcome to the song on the soundtrack that breaks your heart into a million pieces after listening to it
    17. the line "your father might come back" always makes me cry Izzy McCalla did an incredible job with this song
    17. yes, yes Barry does (it's mentioned in an earlier scene that I wont spoil)
    18. Headcanon: Barry went to Westerburg High and you can tear that from my cold dead hands
    19. omg Caitlin Kinnunen sounds so good in Unruly Heart
    20. your interpretations omg I love them so much
    21. yes how is a spoiler but its a sweet scene if you know (also we needed a happy ending)
    22. Don't worry the lesbian children get to dance and have the time of their lives
    23. Honestly can that be the case Im pretty sure no one would really complain if it was a musical
    24. Let us know what you think of the movie (I cant watch it due to not having Netflix)

    • @Barbara2.0
      @Barbara2.0  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      3. That's a great point. The movie actually helped me understand how ironic the song is
      6. I just couldn't control myself hahaha
      7. SAME :,(
      9. Unfortunately I had to cut it out because of a copyright claim, so I'll be sharing that bit on Patreon only
      10. I didn't know there was a reprise until the movie and it broke me. I couldn't stop crying with the fake prom, that was too much
      18. Hahaha I'm holding on to that now
      20. Thank you! ^_^ I'm glad I'm not talking too much nonsense
      24. I found it very cheesy and a lot could've been done better, but their goal was clearly not to make a masterpiece. It's supposed to just be a feel-good movie that is fun to watch, and that's what it is. Plus, I would watch anything with Emma in it, what a wonderful character

    The plot of the movie (and why the broadway actors are the main leads) is that their broadway show absolutely tanked and they see the news about the girls not being able to go to the dance, so they go to fix it purely for free publicity and show the world they are “good people” because everyone is labeled them as narcissistic. They slowly start to realize it’s wrong and instead of just hoping for publicity to make the world think they’ve changed they actually do :)

    I've never seen the musical, but saw the movie today. Thought it was okay, but got the feeling it was probably better on the stage. I love the fact that this is a pro LGBT+ narrative which also isn't afraid to make fun of those who opportunistically use LGBT+ issues as PR for themselves. Also, the movie gave us Andrew Rannells singing "Love Thy Neighbor" and honestly that alone single-handedly justified its existence.

    So, now that you have (presumably) watched the movie, how did it go? The characters were definitely fixer-uppers so you got that remark right.

    • @Barbara2.0
      @Barbara2.0  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I was so happy they were playing exactly the characters I thought they would play! Hahaha
      I have no shame and will copy and paste some of my thoughts from another comment: I found it very cheesy and a lot could've been done better, but their goal was clearly not to make a masterpiece, so that's fine. It's supposed to just be a feel-good movie that is fun to watch, and that's what it is.
      The movie also confirmed I was missing quite a few plot points. A major one, the fake prom with that reprise of Tonight Belongs to You broke my heart in a million pieces.
      Plus, I would watch anything with Emma in it, what a wonderful character

    • @Zapperr459
      @Zapperr459 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Barbara2.0 I agree on the movie not being one of the greats of the decade, but it's still a fun movie to watch, listening to the music and getting sentimental from the story. Music and choreography is still really good in movie form, and overall it is definitely doing its job of telling the same story as the musical. While the pacing, acting and writing bothered me sporadically, it's easy enough to ignore and enjoy just from how fun and beautiful the story it's trying to tell really is.

    I know I'm late to the discussion, but it has to be said: The musical is 1000 times better than the movie. The movie ruined the musical with a lot of unnecessary subplots, made the main story a subplot and cut scenes with Emma and Alyssa making us only know their relationship from the songs and nothing else. The Emma in the movie doesn't bring as much dept to the character as Caitlin Kinnunen did on and off Broadway, making me not relate to her as much and since my own coming out story is closely related to Emma and her journey, I felt robbed watching it. The only good thing about the movie is Ariana DeBose(whom I may or may not have gotten a crush on since watching the movie...).
    That being said: Queer women are starved for representation where the representation doesn't die, so we gotta be thankful for whatever they'll give us, cuz it ain't much and far between.And both You Happened and Unruly Heart has changed my life, and for that I'll be eternally greatful

    I think I like the plot of the book more cause it has a lot more focus on Emma and Alyssa as it’s from their points of view
    But then again it's a little (very little) too much on Emma and Alyssas side too and had some controversy

    I think is a great musical, but there are some problems. I like how Emma seems like a really happy person despise everything she's been through, I really enjoy her character, she and Alyssa really deserve more screen time.
    But I like your interpretation about being the center of attention. Makes sense in a poetic way. That's why I like your channel, you always add your opinion, it's not just a flat reaction.

    • @Barbara2.0
      @Barbara2.0  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm in love with Emma. Her resilience is so inspiring and her personality so lovely. Such a beautiful character in many ways
      Yeah my idea was for the channel to be a hybrid of reaction/critic review because one of my favourite things to do is talk about a show/movie for hours after I've seen it, so I wanted to bring that to the channel. Glad to know it worked out ^_^
