  • Parting-off a piece is one of the toughest things you can get your mini-lathe to do. I simply couldn't get it to work, but over several weeks of testing and adjusting I finally found a way to reliably do it.
    This is that story.
The mini-lathe model is an AMA210DWE although it is labelled as a AMA210D, I think the only difference is the diameter of the throat/bore. This Lathe also looks and has specifications very similar to the WV210V-S
I bought this lathe from AMADEAL in the UK, but it is labelled as "Harry's Machine Shop" both are UK companies.

I've found aluminum horrible to work with, I can get good results with pre ground hss parting off blades and spraying wd40 on the work piece. Carbide inserts cut brass and copper with a very nice finish. You may want to change the headstock bearings to sealed angular contact bearings, it will transform your machine 100% better. Watching your video you definitely improved, the nib in the middle is your tool too low, and the work I did dished when the aluminum was getting too hot. Hope my advice helps.

Thanks for the advice. My lathe has tapered roller bearings as standard, are these the bearing you mean?

No. tapered will be like what I had in mine that weren't sealed. Once the grease had gone they dried up and collapsed. Angular contact ones are sealed so will never dry up.@@DIYTinkerer
