I've been playing for many years, this video was just to inspire people who didn’t know that you can make real progress and play beautiful songs when learning the harp as an adult! 😃 --Carrie
@@PrincessofthePrincesses I do know of a great harpist who sells books of harp music with all kinds of songs in a category. Her name is Sylvia Woods and she not only gives the harp music, but also easier vs more elaborate versions of each song (plus guitar chords). To start out, I learned from a book called "Harp Olympics Preliminary Round" (it's a purple book). It has some great simple songs to work on specific techniques. It also has a few tips for harpists in general such as restringing, what to do when you get a blister, etc. While I was learning from this book, I was also learning from "Suzuki Harp School Volume 1". This just contains more basic songs to play on the harp. The level of the song's difficulty increases as you reach the end of the book. Nowadays, however, I usually either make up a harp version of a song by ear or look up guitar chords and do "harpy things" based off those if I do not have the song in sheet music.
I’ve been playing now for over two years. Getting up to speed is always an issue for me. I mean if I practice only one song forever I can but if I am working on multiple pieces I seem to always play under tempo. When I play at church I’m up to tempo but usually playing hymns with them left hand only.
You don’t have to know how to play the piano in order to learn the harp. I learned it without that training and it was also my first two handed instrument (simultaneous melody and harmony)
The first four notes are identical to "Holy Mountains" by SOAD. (Three minutes and eight seconds in - if I am not mistaken that is the bridge of the song)
That’s ok, everyone has their own pace and their own journey 🤗❤️ This video was just to inspire people who didn’t know that you can make real progress and play beautiful songs when learning the harp as an adult 😃
Carrie learned harp many years ago, with lots of harp lessons with teachers 😄 She’s just demonstrating what level of pieces are possible to learn in a year, which we’ve seen with many of our students 🥳🙌🏻
Yes, they are called levers and you have them on a lever harp (as opposed to a pedal harp). Lever harps usually have a lever on every string, and they change the pitch by a half step, so you can play in different keys, or do accidentals 😊👍🏻
It’s an example from a harp teacher of what progression in complexity when learning harp can look like 😊👍🏻 It’s just intended for inspiration, to show how it sounds when pieces get more difficult. Every person will learn at a different pace, so it’s totally fine if it takes longer than this example to get to this level.
Too bad you didn't record yourself when you had actually started. You are playing more difficult pieces, but your perfect hand position hasn't changed, and your tone was excellent all the way through, and anyone who has ever had lessons knows how much time and effort goes into creating a good sound on the harp. Ya' can't fool all of us, young lady! BTW, you haven't changed your clothes in a year ?!? 😁🎶🎵🎶
Haha this video was just to inspire and show people what kind of progress you can make when learning the harp as an adult 😃 I've been playing for many years!
Was thinking the exact same... it's very misleading... I took harp lessons for a while before covid and it looked or sounded nothing compared to this. If you had put actual clips of yourself together at those stages of development that would have been much more impressive. All I see here is a very good harper playing a variety of easy and more challenging pieces. It's doesn't show actual progress.
Im learning harp since 3 weeks, and i dont have this precision ahah i can see it's just for demonstration. I play piano since 30 years so i will adapt quick, but fingering cannot be rushed
Hi Markus! Carrie is actually a harp teacher, just demonstrating what is possible with many students we’ve seen 😊 But if you want to see a real student’s progress in a year, we have a video called “1 year harp progress - adult beginner” where there are videos of a student named Caroline throughout her first year of practicing 😃 - Christy-Lyn xx
It’s just a demo of the songs you might learn in the first year when learning to play the harp, to inspire people that it’s possible to learn as an adult, and make real progress in one year 😍💕
These comparisons are so wonderful! Thanks for the inspiration and beautiful music!❤
I'm so glad you're enjoying them! That's a great thing about the harp - it sounds beautiful no matter the level 🤗--Carrie
I've played the harp since i was 6, and I must say that your progress for one year is pretty good!

I want to learn how to play but I would like to know where I can get music sheets?

Salley Gardens was the first song I asked from my teacher after 6 months of class. 4 months later, I still play it nearly every day 😊
It's such a lovely, satisfying piece to play, I can see why you play it daily! ♥️

Got my first blister playing and I’ve gotta say, I was really excited I did.
Beautiful!
Great technique and sensibility!!!
Thank you! 🤗 --Carrie
Great example! This is quite accurate in my case. I was able to play Fur Elise sooner than 1 year but at a slower pace.
Very, very nice!😊
Thanks so much 😃 --Carrie
Does she have a background in piano or another instrument? She’s so good!!! I hope to learn the harp one day.

Vejo um lindo anjo.😍😍🤗👏👏👏

It actually takes me around more than 6 months but nearly a year to play your arrangements for late beginner.
That’s ok, everyone has their own pace and their own journey 🤗❤️ This video was just to inspire people who didn’t know that you can make real progress and play beautiful songs when learning the harp as an adult 😃
Hi, I loved the video ❤ and also wanted to know what’s the harp model
What song is the 6 month one?
Wow
Your hand position is great.
Your tone is also great.
Did you learn the harp by yourself??
Amazing.

@@LearningtheHarp Haha, I thought so, her technique is really relaxed and good. And she wears the same clothes :P
What are the switches for? On the last clip, fur elise, she flips a switch. Tuning i assume? Can you switch notes for each string?
Yes, they are called levers and you have them on a lever harp (as opposed to a pedal harp). Lever harps usually have a lever on every string, and they change the pitch by a half step, so you can play in different keys, or do accidentals 😊👍🏻
Can you tell me what kind of harp you have? Lever? What size? I want to learn
Is this an actual beginner student, or is this a progression based on the modules provided?

I hope so, because wow it has taken me longer for not as much progress 🤦♀️
heyy there, is this harp (dustystrings) great for a beginner?
Yes 😊👍🏻

Good job! Keep it up
She's a teacher. Just showing various levels of arrangements.
