What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about learning harp? 🤓📝 Is there anything you wish you knew before you started? ♥
Excellent advice. I'm 54, and have long wanted to take up the Harp. I finally got a small Royal as a beginning instrument just a few months ago - and, yes, it wasn't long at all before I found myself a bit confined by the fact my sweet girl has only 17 strings! I'll say that, happily, I find myself still very enchanted by my harp and will often spend two hours a day practicing non-stop. I came across one of Christy-Lyn's Harp Tutorial You-Tube videos, and that was what made me finally decide to give it a go and buy my harp. I did buy a tutorial book, which I'm learning a lot from. I'm also very happy that I have some dear friends real-life who are wonderful musicians, and they are always willing to listen to my playing and correct with gracious love. I just got my harp a few months ago, and my hands are relaxing and learning where they need to be. Christy-Lyn's You-Tube video on not making the initial error of separating your fingers into Finger One, Finger Two, etc was extremely helpful. I've already learned that the harp is for me so I'm already looking for a newer instrument with more strings and a greater range. I've also learned that the harp is a lovely social instrument as well. Whether you're interacting with a teacher and learning, or interacting with people and shopping for a harp, or interacting with listeners and sharing a few soothing moments of music, the harp is lovely socially as well. Even as a rank beginner, If there is any advice I would give to people who are thinking about learning harp, or or if there if anything I wish I had known before I started myself: DON'T WAIT. Thank you for the lovely You-Tube channel Christi-Lyn.
Thanks for this ! Superb advice . When I first was gifted my 24 string harp almost 8 years ago it was such a blessing , I could not put it down. I wanted to learn and share and play endlessly . However over the years , with moving , and family situations , and the ups and downs of life I have to admit I have let it sit too long. And watching your video today and publicly expressing this is sort of therapy because I don’t want it to sit anymore and I want to return to that first love I had for it. Thanks for encouraging us to keep our harp hopes alive. The world certainly needs more harp music and more love. ❤Blessings to you .
I am at point zero in my journey. Can't stop watching your videos, but have no harp, so far. It seems an enormous task to find one, but I feel sure I will finally do so. I am quite frightened by how many harps for sale don't seem quite up to standard and that is a worry for someone like me. Thank you for all your encouragement Christi-Lyn.
Hi Lottie. There is an exciting future ahead of you, I’d say you can totally do this!! 😃 I understand that overwhelming feeling of not knowing what harp to choose and I don’t want that to hold you back, so I’ve made a beginners guide of what harp to buy which is included in my beginners program. It includes a selection of just a few harps that are all good choices, depending on your budget. So if you want a simple answer and a pointing in the right direction, that’s a way to get the information and help you need. If you want to take this seriously, this is actually the perfect time because there’s a launch special on my beginners program until August 17th which would give you US$100 off a purchase of a harp! So maybe this is the moment you’ve been building up towards 😃🙌🏻 You can do this!!
Additional suggestions from a serial instrument learner: Keep your harp, or any instrument, out where you end up right next to it routinely. Getting an instrument out of a spare room or closet is all it takes to skip practicing. Practice a little every day? Practice a little several times each day. That'll be easier once the harp holds its tuning. Seriously, just pick it up and, very intentionally and with good form, run through just one exercise or scale several times each day.
Play everything musically. Tough at first, but habits are habits. If you practice without expression, you'll tend to play without expression. It's also easier to enjoy practice if you try to play with expression, for me at least.
I've always wanted to learn how to play harp it goes as old as when I was still in kindergarden now I'm still a student so I can't afford neither a harp or a teacher but one day I'll definitely learn this beautiful instrument...
My teacher found me a very cheap (and good) rental instrument via her personal connections. Especially in smaller cities, harpists usually know each other, and there's usually at least someone with an extra Celtic harp in their hands. Private rentals can be a lot more expensive than private ones.
Sounds like a great option, that’s awesome! 😃🙌🏻
I really appreciate your videos…thank you!

Hi Christy-Lyn, I was looking for a harp teacher in my area. I went to the Harp Connection webpage and typed my part of the U.S. and it looks like the closest teachers are about 4 hours away. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you so much 😊
