- By now many Cold Steel fans will be familiar with some of the tests and feats performed in our infamous Proof series. Many are self-explanatory but other feats may be new to you...so we thought we would give you a brief explanation of some of our tests and their significance...

Something many people don't realize is the fact that cardboard will dull the edge of a blade very fast (even more than wood), so cutting cardboard is to test edge retention...

These videos bring out the severity of these tools and bring me back to reality. It’s so easy to admire blades. They can make us feel tough and equipped but the thought of using these on someone is unthinkable. This is a glimpse of the ancient battle field and even the battlefield today. Great content and great company!

The last type of the test speaks for itself - you can seriously wound or even kill somebody, by dismemberment or beheading. That being said it's the tool you can rely on when your life is in peril. I admire your craft, but have limited space in my flat for the armory;). Nevertheless - it's worth it.

mgonz55 It's not a good business to specifically slander another company's product. I think a lot of CS products are about as good as it gets for the money. There are tons of independent comparisons between CS and other stuff. I'm not a CS fanboy, but the few items I do own are great.

mgonz55 Telling you that they falied and testing them themselves is the same thing since if you doubt their word you will doubt the objectivity of their testing.
i have a cold steel tilite i think its called, i've used it as a lever, hammer, a knife (duh), paint stripper (with the abrasive part used to flick the blade out), used it to gut a deer, i've dropped it more than i can count, i used a hammer on the back end to cut wood. I've never sharpened it or even tightened down any bolts. Its by far the greatest knife i ever owned and is the only reason i would trust a cold steel.
So how much did they pay you to say that?

Well after 3 tours of duty, I would recommend Ka-bar before these. Mainly because ka-bar has been proven for years. It cuts barbed wire, made of the beat material, and keeps an edge the longest. My First ka-bars edge lasted 6 months before I had to sharpen it. My second one survived an I.E.D blast and I still have it in my lockbox. Research them they are worth the money believe me🙌💯

Ok, I did the hanging weight test with a SOG Flashback and it stood up to what looked like 480 pounds before the lock broke. Your knives are great, but they aren't the best.
***** The blade itself is 3.5 inches and I held it by the tip.
***** I don't really know if the axis lock can take more than that without breaking, but it's pretty strong either way.

Ballistic gel is like flesh, excluding cartilage. The skeleton is usually plaster of Paris and sometimes a bit of cement mixed in. I doubt that it has the same strength as bone in a living person.
Against a cutting action, human skin provides some protection, more so than the gel.
