I have always been told to use marine gear oil as it emulsifies with water if there is a leak. Also put the vent plug in first to make it easier to place the drain plug in without excess oil drainage. FYI
Don't forget to grease the the drive shaft spline and shift rod when you re install the lower unit. Putting a sealant is not a good idea between the upper and lower unit.
You probably need a fuel pump, the tank has internal parts that need to be replaced. for the leak the tank would be the issue. I actually restore those fuel tanks
@@MidEngineMadness keep the metal one, better for your purpose, there more Durable. you probably need some parts. The real omc fuel line, 3/8 style hose with the primer bulb, if you got Facebook messenger I can help you out instead of on here. I’m an Evinrude tech

Nice job I have the same motor the previous owner said if it had 4 hours on it lol been sitting 20 years haven’t tore into it yet.
Check your fuel pump as well. You may well need to rebuild it.
Just bought the same motor (so many things to fix I know nothing about, then again... maybe something simple)

Thank you! Would you recommend buying a new tank or trying to fix the one I have?
