I love how some of the soundtrack is really odd (and moody) reharmonizations of previous Zelda game's themes. For example, the temple of time is now in ruins and you almost can't tell that the actual temple of time motif from ocarina of time is still in it. It's really well executed. Sounds like the memory of a place. Ruined, just like it is in the game.

@@euomu a clever title that attracts clicks is clickbait, that's just what it is. Maybe what you meant to say was that not all clickbait titles are bad, since the word "clickbait" has a negative connotation to it these days

    • @Roxfox
      @Roxfox ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@SerpongeDash The question implies the answer, and the implication is false. If you have nothing but good things to say about something and you angle the title towards negativity, then that's drawing attention purely by implying controversy. Such a title draws engagement because it's supposed to make people look at it and say "what!? How can somebody think that! I'm gonna go and yell at them for being wrong!" And when the video then immediately renders the question irrelevant and actually has nothing to yell about at all, that's clickbait.
      Great video nonetheless.

I rarely write comments, but I've been following you for a few years and I have to say: you are such a planetary treasure! It's such joy to come along for your journey and learn from such an inspiring human being! Please keep it up! You're really one of the people helping me to shift my focus back to music from a boring office job. I have a degree in musicology but never really worked in that field, which I'm looking to change now. Somehow, you manage to present everything at a very high level that one might think would just be daunting and intimidating, but it's all so wonderfully accessible and comforting! No one else can be this good and still so motivating! With your knowledge and perspective on music, you show what is possible without making it seem impossible, if that makes sense. This comment relates to your channel in general , but this topic in particular was tackled many times on youtube, but never by a pianist who comes from a comparatively neutral angle, not having been a fan of the series for years. Very interesting! Thank you so much for your awesome work! You are truly enriching my life and surely many other's!

One of the best parts of the Zelda soundtrack isn't just that the music itself is incredibly beautiful and perfectly fitting for each situation, but also that many of the melodies and motifs have a looooong history in the franchise, each being emotionally loaded with so many feelings from previous games, and hearing the new interpretations of them in BotW in new contexts makes it so much more impactful than just "this is a pretty musical phrase".
And gosh dang, your arrangement is GORGEOUS! I gotta relisten to that until I have it memorized.

Amazing rendition. To me this is everything and it did not disappoint.

The soundtrack has a lot Debussy elements, the spacing, the breaks between chords, non functional harmony, definitely Debussy was a source of inspiration, like the Children's Corner, some of the preludes. It does the job very well in terms of creating the adequate emotions to the environment of the gameplay. Just great!

I do think that the soundtrack is best heard contextualized within the game. So much of the mood is a combination of the visuals, the music, and the foley/environmental sounds. It really puts you into the moment in a way only the best soundtracks do.
Both your music and Breath of the Wild evoke similar feelings inside me. Whimsical, intimate, introspective, at times lonely
I would love to see a breakdown from your point of view *why* you think people may find some of your music similar from a more technical standpoint, because a lot of us seem to struggle to find the words to adequately explain it. I know that the instrumentation (obviously) plays a big role, along with the arpeggios and the extended chords, but I'm not sure exactly why.

Wow this was the first video I've seen of yours and I'm thrilled to find your channel. This was so interesting to watch. This franchise is what inspired me to learn piano as a kid, and I love seeing professional musicians break it down. This is one of the best vids I've seen on it! Thank you so much! I've ordered your book and I can't wait to read it!

I love the marriage of my two favorite things: classical music and video games!!! I love your channel and how much fun you have exploring music in every way you can and when I saw one of my favorite games next to your face in a thumbnail, I was elated!
And your performance at the end?! You were having too much fun! It’s so good! 🤩

The arrangement of the main theme at the end was one of the most impressive things I've seen on here. Not just because the performance is immaculate, but also it was such a creative way of interpreting the music and modifying it to make it personal. I was just passively watching this video while washing dishes at the beginning. By the end I was staring at my laptop, stunned. That was nuts!

The soundtracks for all Zelda games are totally amazing, and this one is no exception. Absolutely love the arrangement there, and thanks for the instructive video!
In general, composers who work for Nintendo are very very talented and hard working people, which is why Nintendo soundtracks are almost always great to listen to.

Amazing composition! The final chord was amazing. I love the syncopated staccato broken up by smooth legato. I love the dynamics and use of space. This is why I think it reminds people of your music. It's never dull and always changing. You're amazing! It's obvious you put your heart and soul into almost everything you do. Your piano skills, your composition, your YT videos and amazing editing. Please remember that it's sometimes okay to do nothing "productive" some days :)

The huge rhythmic and tonal understanding you need to write something like that is beyond me. Let alone the skill in playing it. 😅
But I have just bought your book. I have basic knowledge and play piano since many years but I hope to understand the more complex things by reading it.
Thank you for the awesome video about this gorgeous game‘s ost!

Fans of bands like The Consouls have been recommending this OST for years and they finally covered Kass's Theme and Rito Village, so for a jazz ensemble cover (as opposed to solo piano), they are well worth checking out! (Also for a ton of other brilliant covers like Secret of the Forest in odd time signature with strings)

Such a cool arrangement, love that you are able to push the music towards your style while still staying true to the source material. The section from 9:13 - 9:30 I think is my favorite, the contrasted feelings, yet both feel just as intimate just in different ways.

I like how when she was playing at the end, she plays multiple melodies that are so recognisable but different and at the start it felt weird as it feels like it doesn’t go well together and that it’s just random. But as she continues playing it you start to expect it and the different Melodies starts to blend together better. My favourite part was 9:30 when it went from the intro theme to the battling theme so suddenly which I feel is like the sudden changes that can happen in the game like suddenly encountering an enemy while you were just chilling.

I know nothing about musical theory, but I love to see musicians talking about some music that I love... this video is no exception, and your version of the BotW theme was incredible! Somewhere around 09:10 reminded me a lot of one of the tracks from the "Kingdom Hearts Piano Collections -Field and Battle-", but I can't quite put my finger on it... in any case, KH is another game series which has impeccable music throughout its 20 years; I would highly recommend you listen to the soundtracks, and I'd love to see videos like this one, with your opinions and explanations of them.
