    I built my V251 3 years ago and have loved it ever since. Upgraded to the top power supply and GAC7 cable. I rolled off the top end a little more than stock and use it primarily for
    production voice overs. Since the platinum edition has come out it has gotten nothing but rave reviews so you're going to love using it.

    Seriously looking at the regular version of this …fits budget and if it sounds even close I’ll be happy. Thank it will balance beside my Telefunken TF29. Appreciate review.

      If that TF29 is the cooper one I like that one!

    I built the DIY V251 and it’s a great mic as is. I’m anxious to see what the platinum version upgrades are.

    Do you think an auteur mkiii would be good for rap/pop? Or should I go up to miktek pre ?

    Czar, do you have, have tried or heard the Warm Audio 251? If so, how does it compare? LOL - If I just finish watching the video... can you expound on what WA didn't offer that this did?

    • @TheAudioCzar
      @TheAudioCzar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This has the same tube and transformer that a elam 251 uses. The warm uses a different tube and transformer. This made me not interested in the warm. Also this mic parts has a pad and HPF, and 9 polar patterns. The warm does not have any of that.

      Based on the WA-251 comparison review I've seen, my answer is "no contest." The review I'm referencing included a MicParts 12-251 (built by a customer who is a friend of the reviewer). The 12-251 uses the same tube and capsule as the standard V-251. The review included the mic you name, and a couple vintage tube mics. See the review here: th-cam.com/video/HAEI1kdmoFo/w-d-xo.html
      The DIY kit version of the V-251, and the pre-built standard edition of the MicParts V-251, are tonally very similar to the 12-251 in the Claes video linked above; the differences would be in the harmonic saturation and headroom, but not frequency response.
      The Platinum V-251 has significant component upgrades throughout both the mic and PSU, including some rare vintage parts selected for their transparency and detail. Basically every component was reviewed; I picked "cost no object" upgrades based on extensive listening tests that we conducted in 2020. Not everybody can hear diodes, resistors, and wire, but some people can. This idea was taken to a fairly ridiculous extreme, e.g. the fuse holder inside the PSU is is a surface-mount design that's much harder for us to install, but has superior metallurgy to the part we normally use. It's gold plated! Can anybody hear the fuse holder, or the fuse for that matter? I sincerely doubt it. But we used the good one anyway.
      The Platinum power supply has a gorgeous Swiss-made pattern control that is night-and-day superior in feel to the pattern control on the standard edition. No, you can't hear how the switch feels when you play back your tracks, but just like with a great AV receiver, the feel of the controls definitely influences your experience.
      Also worth noting is that our VPS power supply, which is sold either as a DIY kit or pre-built, now includes the custom-made filter capacitors that were pioneered for the Platinum edition. Basically, we had to make a bunch of them to justify the cost of making any at all, so we upgraded the DIY kit with those parts too. They're the finest electrolytic capacitors in the world, with deep foil etching and a proprietary electrolyte recipe, and lower ESR than all the other same-value parts we've tested. (And they sound better too, needless to say.)
      Czar, thanks for the nice review! I'm really glad you dig the mic. :-)

    what about the Telefunken TF51 . can you do a shootout.

    • @TheAudioCzar
      @TheAudioCzar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have the TF51, I looked at that one to. It does use the same transformer and tube as the 251. But when I heard it on Telefunken site It didn't have the air I wanted. I preferred the TF29, the copper one. I think that's the TF29

      @@TheAudioCzar thank you for a very prompt reply! you mentioned in the video that 251's were used a lot for female vocals, so i wasn't sure if this mic is suitable for male vocals. can the same mic sound great on female and on bassy male vocals?
