Nice reference to "oil panting" on the u47's. I really felt that warm sensation vs the clarity and high end brightness on the 251. GREAT REVIEW!

I like the u47 on your voice more just because it warmed up the tones and matched the intimacy of the ballad.

Excellent, excellent video, my friend. The quality and the examples are outstanding. I think the U47 fit the style of the first example (and is one of my favorite mics ever), but the 251 is definitely the choice for more pop style music.

Nice review! I normally prefer a U47/U67 style sound on vocals but in this case I liked the 251 slightly better here; totally subjective of course. It would be interesting to hear a Warm Audio 87r2 FET vs a WA-67 on a comparison too. Keep up the great work!

Hey Christian. Nice comparison. I'm considering a GA-47, but deciding between that, a Neumann U89 (warmer than the 87), or a Telefunken TF51. I feel these would be in the same ballpark, with the Telefunken perhaps being a little brighter. Do you have any experience with those others?

The U47 suits better your voice and style of singing on the first demo. That 251 was somehow edgy in the highs which surprised me. It mad your louder parts sound too "screaming". I would have liked to hear it without and EQ as well.

at minute 4 .. im listening with hi x55 headphones and I can hear a lot of difference on the 251 sounds like separated from the piano even a little harsh you can hear the detail more but not in a good way in my opinion , on the u47 as not as detail but It blends way better with the piano is like sounds more glue together , there is like something nice about the low end of the u47 , Dam you have a really nice voice my brother

47 has so fitting midrange in the mix, fits like a glove. while 251 sounds very nice, but more on-top of the mix, if you like that more. I like the top end of the 47 better, seems less harsh.

this wont be a very popular opinion amongst enthusiasts, but the microphone market remains heavily propped up by the guardians of the past. in a mix, which is the use case and context all of these would be used in, no one could tell the difference between a $1200 microphone and a $8600 microphone. Or, a $400 microphone vs. a $1200 one. think about how true this statement is as a reason to understand my point: for $0, you can't record anything. for $100, you can record everything.. but at the sacrifice of build and sound quality, at $400, you can record everything with little to no sacrifice... after that, we are splitting hairs.. for absorbent amts of money.
20x the cost of a $400 mic, for some microphones. are you getting 20x the performance?
    edit: subbed :)

agree, I have used a 300dollar LDC for 15 years and now I am really considering getting a 251. I am a vocalist and drummer and I think it will improve the quality of my recordings, but I wouldn't say my previous recordings are worst because of the mic I used, but that I've gotten better at playing, recording, mixing etc throughout the years with an affordable mic, not letting price hold me back.
