If you are getting a trike let me know which make and model? We love all bikes and trikes. Stay in the wind.
I got myself 2007 Piaggio mp3 250 IE and it looks like a Trike but different! Sandman Rides
I have a bad leg as well, used to race bikes so im all busted up full of Arthritis. Good to know your military, thank you for your service!
@roywalls5595 I never rode one but they like fun. Thanks for watching.
@ThomasMitchell-dp4ry ge on that trike and you'll never look back. Thanks for watching.
I've had a can am n it caught fire I'm looking at the harley trike cvo or the road glid 3 not sure which one yet to go with
Hi Sandman. Good video about pros and cons. I've been riding motorcycles for 55 years. I'm 73 and a widower now. About 5 months ago I decided it was probably time for me to quit riding. Gave my 2005 Springer Classic to one of my sons. After about a month I couldn't take it anymore and bought a 2013 Tri Glide. Just love it! A couple months ago I came across a good deal on a 2007 Heritage Classic. Broke down and got it also. Now I have my trike for the majority of my riding, but can still jump on 2 wheels for a quick ride around town. Best of both worlds! I just have to be aware of what I'm on when I pull up to a stop light, if you know what I mean. Haven't fallen over yet.. Take care and keep up the informative videos..
A man knows what he wants. Thanks for watching and stay in the wind.
Hi OZ. Thanks to a bad back I sold both my badass two wheelers. Hated not having a bike, even if just to ride down to the beach and back for a short hop. So, bought an 04 CVO Deuce. Well, my Sciatica pinched and I could not hold the bike up. Came down on top of me. I sold that CVO Deuce a week later and bought a 2022 Freewheeler. I always figured I would be ok on those short hops, but I was not. I Hope you never have to experience what happened to me happen to you. I still can't believe I laid it down. Keep Riding......your 3.
Do you have trouble making the transition between. "counter steering". And steering?
@@boscodog4358 I never really thought about it. I have ATV's that I ride too, so I'm use to riding them. Pretty much steer the same as a trike to me. I don't really think about it. I just get on and go. You just have to remember that you have two rear wheels instead of one, and not ride to close to curbs etc.
It's hard to overstate how much more comfortable the Tri Glide is on long rides compared to a two-wheeler, especially with a passenger.
They won't know unless they try it. Thanks for watching and stay in the wind.
Love my trike. Miss the two wheels but it is a great alternative.
I had buyers remorse as soon as I got it home. First long trip I was completely sold on the idea. Thanks for watching and stay in the wind. By the way, what was wrong with your trike? I have to catch up on your episodes.
I'm an American Vietnam Vet, 100% Disabled (2/502 Inf, 101st Airborne), after 9 years Army I got a chance to move to Australia to teach. I shipped my 1979 Dresser with me. I bought a side car here, so I could take my two sons camping ... You are spot on about a total different ridding set of skills. They let me use their large parking lot to try riding it with the side hack...almost hit a wall on my first go...ha, I had to have some operations because of those wounds later in my life and the surgeon told me to give up my bikes (including a WWII Indian I restored)... my wife suggested I look at a Trike... still considering it... Love the "Wings" on the back of yours and the shot of your CIB... says it all..
Airborne! Thank you for your service and welcome home. Go for the trike. It is a blast to ride. Thanks for watching.
Hi Sandman, I went with a 2017 Freewheeler, just like the look and was sold after the test-ride. It's somewhat sad to end my 50 years of two-wheeling although since my stroke, it's humbling, though my balancing is off. Thank you!! because your video's encouraged me to be in the wind again in a much safer way 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
I just bought a 2023 Freewheeler. Make believe knees, crap back and a need for speed......Thank you for your input and service.
My same reasons, knees and back. I appreciate it. Thanks for watching.
I have a 22 Freewheeler. I HAD a Road King but I was hit by a pickup truck. The Freewheeler reminds me so much of the RK and I've done stage 2 and LOVE it. It was a challenge at 1st but now, HA, I can keep up with my 2 wheel buddies no problem
Hell yeah, keep on riding for as long as you can. Thanks for watching.
Tried a Harley-Davidson 2023 Tri-Glide a few months ago. Rather enjoyed it. Now working to save the money to buy one! Thank You for your videos & information. Makes the transition or the idea of the transition easier...Ride On Brother !
Long distance rides on three-wheels are amazingly comfortable. Thanks for watching.
Have a cam-am Spyder, Love it. Stop riding 30 years ago. Didn’t know that I missed riding, until I started again. Having a blast now. Enjoy you Channel, ride safe .
Spyders are cool trikes. Thanks for watching and stay in the wind.
Great information, and thank you for your service Brother. We are getting a 23 Tri Glide Ultra.
That is awesome! Thanks for watching.
Very well said Sandman.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
For myself it’s just less fatigue after a long ride. I agree with just staying in the middle of a lane. No, I can’t ride them as fast as my motorcycles but they are still a lot of fun.
The comfort a trike provides is unmatched by two-wheelers. Thanks for watching.
Good info., well i love my Harley one wheeler but had to modify the one seat to fit my ladies big a-s , other then that it's head turner more so then the a trike, greetings from Portland Oregon!
Thank you very good information you shared.
Glad it was helpful!
I have a Goldwing 1800 Trike CSC. Absolutely gorgeous.😊
Very nice! Thanks for watching.
THANKS AGAIN I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
Thank you for watching.
Good video thanks for the information
I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for your service! Hubby (US Navy Ret) has a 2020 Spyder RT Ltd. I have a 2022 Spyder Sea-to-Sky. Pricey? Yes, but so much fun. Plus in our area (Texas Gulf Coast) we have a fabulous trike club. Thanks for your video. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It is great to see other trikers enjoying the open road. Thank hubby for his service. Thanks for watching and stay in the wind.
Great looking trike, Love that color Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Great information. 😊
Thanks for watching.
Thanks sharing this video Sandman Rides!
I appreciate the comment. Thanks for watching.
Found a Vulcan with a trike kit on it. Really looking forward to getting it! Great video !
Good choice!
I'm glad I seen this video. Im a Veteran and Im 43 yrs old and I have a lot of back issues. I have a 2010 Heritage and I have been tip toeing the idea about a trike. So, when I'm ready, I'm just going to pull the trigger and get one.
Get what excites you and supports your physical limitations. Just continue to ride. Thanks for watching.
I have a 06 Boss Hoss V8 Willy. Good video. I have to stay middle lane my trike is bigger and wider than triglides
Interesting SR. Many thanks for this sensible appraisal. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills of Northern Ireland.
Glad you enjoyed it. How is the riding in Northern Ireland? Thanks for watching.
Hi Sandman. We have plenty of open roads, beautiful scenery and fascinating historic places to visit and of course good eateries. The locals here are very welcoming. You would find our roads very narrow and twisty with a lot of farm vehicles on them and cow manure etc spilled on them. The big problem is our very changeable weather. There are plenty of bikers and clubs around but many bikers are only fair weather bikers. I use my Honda VT 600 custom almost every day, if I can. I don't go out in icey or wet weather though. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills of Northern Ireland
GREAT VIDEO!!!Just an FYI, here in MO you have to have a motorcycle license to operate a trike. So a beginner cannot start with a trike.
Interesting. So you have to test on your bike? In NC, as with most states, all you need is a motorcycle endorsement. I took the MSF course through a community college and they approve my riding skills. Then I went to DMV for my written test. I didn't even own a bike yet. But, it's good to know other places have different rules. Thanks for watching.
Great video. Love my triglide
Thanks for watching and stay in the wind.
Excellent sound advice. I'd like to see you do a similar thing for the Rewaco trikes
The Rewaco trikes are fantastic. However, I have never ridden one. I'll see about getting my hands on one. Thanks for watching.
Hi Sandman, great video and explanation. I've been a two wheeler since 19 and now 70. I had 3 Hondas, 2 Harleys, biggest my 93 Dyna Low Rider, a 20 year break and bought a 2007 Yamaha Vstar 650. Loved it but being older now Its harder for me as a woman to hold it and my wrist is weaker. So, I looked at a Freewheeler, loved it but too pricey for me, my husband doesn't ride. I am looking at a 2008 Suzuki Boulevard Lehman Trike Jackal VL1500 C90 tonight, and can't find out if it has a reverse or the weight. Your video helped with the thinking of costly maintenance etc. Thank you.
I'm glad the video helped. Thanks for watching and stay in the wind.
Hi Sandman. Nice video. For me there is actually only one "con", and that simply you can't cut in and out of traffic due to that wide rear end. I have a 2022 Freewheeler. I am now in it about 40,000 dollars. I did get the wheels, heat shields, beer cans/lower legs, back rests and luggage rack gloss black powder coater. Switched to LED headlight, Smokey lens all around, added a rear kick control for shifting, LED light show around the motor, changed handlebar grips, all leather now is "diamond stitched", oh, and flush gas caps and switched the mufflers for Screamen Eagle in Black. I am still considering putting in a recluse clutch and having a stick shift. Well, that is most of everything I think. Best wishes.
That's one thing about motorcycles, you are never finished dressing them up. Thanks for watching.
Your Trike is beautiful. I love the green!!!
Thank you!
Hey sandman I see that you still got your stock shocks on your trike and let me tell you I rode my trike for 4 years on the stock shocks and this year I switched over to legends aero a air shocks and brother it made my bike handle completely better,I ride a 2018 tri glide with the comfort lift and it day and night different.
That is awesome advice. I'll have to check them out. Thanks for watching and stay in the wind.
I'm a vet with a bad leg and a trike has me back in the saddle again!
Hell yeah! Stay in the wind for as long as you can. Thanks for watching.
Do they have a automatic gearbox because i cznt shift with my legs
What about the trikes that have the two wheels in front? What are your thoughts about those? I hear they are safe and with the two wheels in front you can know what will fit and what will not rather than finding out because you did not look in the rear view mirror. I had 5 different bikes when younger but now at 77 I want to get out on the road and am looking at those trikes with wheels in front.
My Harley friends are going to hate this but two wheels up front are more stable and easier to ride. I love my Freewheeler and used to riding with one up front. Thanks for watching.
I have a 2013 Ultra Classic and I am in the queue to have a California Sidecar Conversion done to it, it is scheduled for Feb 1st.. Bike had a trade in value of 11k, the conversion is costing 19k .. I only have 10k on the bike.. A Harley Tri-glide from 2013 costs about 28-29k plus all the fees and taxes..
Here for the 19k I am getting this done with Independent rear suspension, which was a huge factor in me going with CSC.
Why the Trike now.. Well I am 66, still put 3k on the bike this year, but on long rides, it just beats up my legs if there is a lot of lights and stops..
After Delmarva Bike week and just being so wiped out from the trip, I decided it was time to go to a trike..
I looked at the Can-Am's, but the lady in the relationship LOVES the Ultra Classic we have, so that also contributed to the decision..
I am hoping I can ride far into my 70's.. hopefully into my 80's.. I saw a rider who was 86 on a cross-touring bike a few years back at Twiggs.. If I can do that, my life will be perfect.. :)
Riding keeps you young. Well, at least it makes me feel young. Thanks for watching and stay in the wind.
Here in the UK we filter a lot thru traffic which one obviously can't do on a trike but the biggest downside by far is the crazy price of a new TriGlide. For the same cost I can buy a new Sport Glide AND a new Goldwing Bagger. Mental. 😎
They are expensive. You also have the option of getting a trike conversion kit. Thanks for watching.
I've asked others, Mr. Sandman is their a different between the harley trike n can am as far as they handle
Yes! A two-wheel up front handles better than a one wheel up front. I ride a Harley Freewheeler and some Harley riders may disagree . Test ride both and let me know what you think. Thanks for watching.
Any comparison between 2 front wheels versus 2 rear wheels.. pros and cons?
I'll try to arrange a comparison of both trikes. Thanks for watching and stay in the wind.
I'm happy with my Can-Am Spyder RT Limited
I love the Can-Am Spyder RT. I know a few people who ride them. I appreciate it. Thanks for watching.
Hi what is the color called on your trike? Please, Great video
Thanks for watching. The color of my trike is the Snake Venom from Harley-Davidson. It changes from green to purple. I love it.
We are looking for trike my husband is better, but he’s also disabled as about 12 years ago he fell 24 feet of the ladder almost lost his right leg so he has trouble shitting. We had to give up our motorcycle two wheeler and now we’re seniors and we’re looking to go with the trike, he can’t clutch at all in order to keep his late foot and his leg. They had to do a fusion and he has limited mobility is a trike a good idea for our situation and if so, how do we go about finding one I can’t find any ?
Can-Am Motorcycles have no clutch and would be a better choice for his limitations. Good luck and stay in the wind.
I have been looking online at the Harley Davidson XL883 Trike. Never ridden a Trike before but would like more comfort, safety and something that can go the distance as I can enjoy as I am getting older and ready to retire.
Would this be a good option? Also, how do they hold their price if wanted to sell or trade up at a later date? Kind regards, Mike 😎
An XL 883 would have to be upgraded with a trike kit. I own a Sportster XL883 and the power may not be there for a trike kit. A Sportster 112 may be a better option. I don't know how they hold their value but whenever I see a used trike for sale it's not much lower than a new one. Thanks for watching.
So I’m a interested first time buyer of a freewheeler in the near future who is a paraplegic. I leave in Texas I will possibly take the 3 day classes Harley Davidson has to offer after that I’m confused on what else needs to be done before I can become street legal to ride a trike. I am open to any advice in the Texas area on steps to take for this process
You will have to follow the process prescribed by Texas for obtaining a motorcycle license or endorsement. The HD Motorcycle Safety course instructors will assist you with your questions. Unfortunately, I'm in NC and do not know the laws in Texas. I admire your courage. Thanks for watching, and keep on riding.
How bout insurance? Does it insure like a bike, car, or in between? Thanks
Most car insurance have road side assistance that can be applied to a motorcycle. However, roadside assistance for cars does not include towing a motorcycle. Check with your insurance.
I’d like a trike for winter riding when there might be slick patches. Sadly all the trikes are almost car like in weight & girth.
The only ones under 1000 pounds are the off road versions.
My Freewheeler is 1100 pounds so I know what you mean. But wouldn't you want something heavier for the winter? Thanks for watching.
I've heard that using the reverse, the battery drains alot. True? Thanks
Not in my experience.
Not sure what state You are in, But if I ever meet you brother I would love to take a ride with you, Thanks for sharing the video.
If we ever run into each other, we will definitely ride. Thanks for watching.
Being in my 60s, a partial amputee on my left foot, and my balance and core not what it used to be as a result, I would have no choice but a trike... I like what the Indian Roadmaster offers...I just need to be in the positive cash situation for one...
Keep pushing that dream. You will get there. Thanks for watching.
Is there any used trike out there for less than $5k? That is still reliable?
I don't think so but you never know. Thanks for watching.
How often does it have to get serviced? Is it the same cost as servicing a 2 wheeled harley..?
The trike seems to have the same maintenance schedule as two-wheeled HD motorcycles.
...the cost will be slightly more since there are more mechanical items to service.
I have nightmares thinking back to the old atv 3 wheelers. You said they are stable, but did you ever have that fear during your first experience with a Trike?
Most definitely. But they are much stable than the old trikes.
Hey Sandman Great Videos! Im from Rogers Arkansas buying my first bike from Pig Trail Harley in Rogers. I’m starting out on a Trike. It’s a 2023 Tri
Glide Ultra. Solid black. Adding a back rest 12 in handle bars. I’m renting a trike almost every weekend and will tomorrow.
I’ll have 1600 miles on the rental in 5 weekends. I’m addicted to riding. Come to Arkansas for Blues Bikes and BBQ this October. Check out another you tuber The Veteran Biker. He interviewed me (My Wife Made Me Buy It.) Thanks for what your doing!!
I am subscribed to Veteran Biker. I will be in Arkansas this year, but not sure when as of yet. When I do make it up there we'll have to ride. Stay tuned. Thanks for watching and stay in the wind.
Can I ask how you found a place to rent a trike? I've been looking all over Houston, but I would travel to go rent one. Thanks. Ride safe!
Rob
Sport trikes are awesome. Best of the best
Thanks for watching.
Yes trike for me
Keep on riding. Thanks for watching.
The best thing to do is buy both, I have a Harley softail and a Road Smith Gold wing I ride them both and have for years, They both have there. uses. It's not because you are old and you have to have one ,I have a trike because they are different.
Amen to that. I have a Sportster and the Freewheeler. They are both fun. Thanks for watching.
SOUNDS A LOT DIFFERENT FROM MY BIKE WHEN I WAS 4 YEARS OLD
Hahaha, it sure does. Thanks for watching.
are trikes safe on high speeds like 70mph?
Safety has a lot to do with the rider. I had mine above 70 with no issues. Thanks for watching.
What’s the most reliable trike?
Hmmm, most reliable? I have no idea, but in my opinion, it would be a trike that is built by the manufacturer rather than a trike kit. I'll have to dig into this question and maybe make a video on it, giving you credit for the question. Thanks for watching.
Being a truck driver, I’m aware of defensive driving. Never rode a bike. At 45 I want a trike due to traveling with my wife on adventures…
Trikes are the way to go, especially for the passenger. They are more confident and comfortable riding on three rather than two wheels. Keep on trucking.
I love my trike.
Thanks for watching.
One thing is a trike has alot rougher ride then a two wheeler. On two wheels you can pick what part of the road you want to travel. On the trike you have two big tires, that hit all the bumps and pot holes. My first trike a 2015 Freewheeler my wife didn't like the ride so I traded it for a 2017 Tri Glide it's alot more comfortable for her
I avoid the potholes with my Freehwheeler just like when I drive a car. Maybe they have better roads here, but I don't see much difference. Thanks for watching and stay in the wind.
Harley Davidson xl883 2014 uk
That is a sweet ride.
Thanks man, she is
Plus you can't lane split in a emergency
I tried lane splitting in Los Angeles and it was slower than two-wheelers. I agree though, You can't go very fast while lane splitting. Thanks for watching.
Yea, I ruined my gold wing by converting it to a three wheeler.
Those things are absolutely dangerous. They can pull you right off the road.
Uneven payment, a bump, a lean and the damn thing will shout off course.
Put you in the trees or worse. It was so long it took an expressway to turn around.
If you ever rode one of those Honda balloon tire three wheelers you know what I mean.
Honda discontinued them cause they were so unsafe.
If you want a motorcycle get a motorcycle, if you want a tricycle by a Schwinn.
Thanks Sandman, you talked me into not buying a trike.
Hi M.S. I feel sorry for you if you actually let someone talk you out of buying a 3 wheeler. I LOVE TRIKES. Recently sold my 86 chopper, my 2010 Deluxe Bagger and my 04 CVO Deuce. Bought a new 2022 Freewheeler. I LOVE IT. Bought my first 3 wheelers back in the 60's/70's. A 42 45 trike, a 54 45 trike, and a VW Big Daddy Roth early trike kit. The Deluxe and this Freewheeler are my only brand new bikes. I have always loved 3 wheelers. So sorry you let one person talk you out of owning and loving one. They only have one con, and that is you can't cut thru traffic. I hope you change your mind and go rent one for a weekend and experience the ride for yourself. Best wishes.....Gary/L.A.
Your choice is respected. Just stay in the wind. Thanks for watching.
I agree, try it before deciding.
you will always be riding in the oil spot left by cars on and rodd way
There is a gap between the front wheel and the back wheels. I usually try to ride in that lane position. But with a trike it does not matter as much as a two-wheeler. Thanks for watching.
Why do you keep calling it a moto
A trike is a motorcycle.
If a trike could cause me to become flabby, I'll pass...don't like flabby, it's unhealthy. Wouldn't want a toy that makes me lazy.
Thanks for watching.
Stop repeating your words
Thank you for watching the video and the feedback.
Not for me.
Trikes are not for everyone, and I respect that. I've met 80-year-olds still riding on 2 wheels.
@sandmanrides4318 >>> 👍👍
Thanks for watching.
Good info., well i love my Harley one wheeler but had to modify the one seat to fit my ladies big a-s , other then that it's head turner more so then the a trike, greetings from Portland Oregon!
