it's always great listening to him talk, but it's a lot more interesting and cohesive now that he's sober and happy. the difference is huge. i love the way he thinks about music and the extent of his musical integrity. honesty in music is everything, it really makes the difference between good art and meaningful art. the philosophical, big picture ideas they incorporate into their music . . . proud of them.

His summation of postmodernism and its effects on our culture is spot on. Looking forward to the new wave that’s coming with the millennials. Tradition wasn’t good enough. Deconstruction and cynicism isn’t fulfilling. The next stage is being self-consciously sincere and passionate.
Agreed 100% I'm glad someone in the pop zeitgeist is tackling postmodernism and really trying to push passed it into something more transcendental. It's not easy to say yes, things have meaning even deconstructed but it may not be easy to figure out what that meaning may be. Glad he's working through that in his art.

Matty is honestly so smart and inspiring me everyday. He makes me think about a lot of things I should think about in a different way.
Most of the comments on here already said what I want better than I could but I just had to comment anyway because this dude knows what's up. He understands and observes life much differently than most folks. We need more people like him in the world. I'm happy how he's using his platform to be like "look things are shit and we do shitty things but we all want the same stuff and we could do so much more and so much better".

I could listen to Matty talk all day. Just the way he presents himself and puts his self out there, even down to his vocabulary and how intelligently he speaks, just intrigues me and draws me in. This is why the 1975 is my favorite band. They’re so real and personable. They make you feel like they understand you on a personal level with the way they write their music and anyone can relate to it. I just love it.
