    I've been suspecting the relay on my '08 Civic as being the issue since the compressor clutch does not disengage, even when the controls are to the off position. The battery will also drain after about a week if the car is not driven. I'm hoping this resolves both issues. Thanks for posting the video and for some of the other people commenting with similar problems!

    I has a similar problem with the same year honda. Went through all these testing steps as well. .the problem still persisted. The step I didn't do that a customer would was opened the trunk. .I put my phone on record threw it in the trunk and sure enough light never went out

      Another thing to checkout on these vehicles along with the trunk light switch is also the glove box light and vanity mirrors on the visors.

    I just gave my 07 civic to repair shop expecting them to say it's the alternator doesn't charge my battery properly (I have a brand new battery), but they told me that alternator was just fine. I will go but that relay from Autozone first thing in the morning and go to the shop, ask them to replace it. If it works, you will get some pretty serious prayers, my friend.

    Customer had me install a starter, 10 minutes later said the vehicle wouldn't start. Get more info on the vehicle, customer took it to a shop 6 months prior, got charged almost $700 for them to "bypass" the blower resistor. Everytime the AC was on it was drawing too much power, draining the battery just enough to not start. Needless to say, they didn't even bother to solder or heat shrink the wire. That's why I constantly ask questions..

    It's only the Omron relays, the Mitsubas are more expensive but if you get the Mitsuba, you will be good to go. The Mitsuba version is the Honda factory fix.

    Thanks for your sharing!
    I had this similar battery dying on me like this and these similar experience with AC clutch relay but that shouldn't be the issue when the power is off. Also, you can test the relay with a nine to 12 volt battery to test the contacts via ohm reading. While, I'm still waiting for my battery to be fully charged for tomorrow for further diagnostics, I discovered there's about 3.8 ohms between those two unplugged input power cables. That tells me there's something being short at about 3 amps. I would not advise running mA testing on your DMM if that current is high otherwise it may damage your DMM. More results tomorrow.

    I would look into the Dome light, seen instances where owners of the vehicle left the switch in the on position even though the light isnt “working”. But in the middle of night or random times the light would turn on and stay on. Especially if they had aftermarket bulbs ie led junk

I will even buy them back (1/2 price) if the customer gets the problem fixed eventually.

  • @louisegribbon4214
    @louisegribbon4214 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Watching your video was great, it's EXACTLY what I've been dealing with for 30 days. Everything you showed was exactly the work done on mine, including the relay switch and new battery. No drain was found but this morning again after one day of sitting it is completely dead. What do I do now?

    • @louisegribbon4214
      @louisegribbon4214 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm answering my own above question. They found that the "lock" switch inside on the door (armrest) is broken and it remains on the "on" position even though I turn it off. It is probably the switch I've used most all these years and it has to be replaced. That would explain why I only had battery drainage at my parking at home. I left it with a dealer for three nights and there was no problem with drainage, but I, of course, I used it immediately and after it was in my parking spot for more than a day, the battery was dead. A new one is ordered, but orders these days re taking an extra long time. Hope this will be the answer.

    • @DEMinSoCAL
      @DEMinSoCAL 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@louisegribbon4214 My wife's civic has this same problem for a year. She purposely drives it every day. What "lock switch" are you referring to exactly? She doesn't use the physical switch to lock the doors, she uses her remote once she's in the car. Oddly we do have an issue where if you are holding the remote and come anywhere close to the car, it unlocks itself. Somehow, I think the lock system is the cause of the drain, but where to start?

    • @markmarquis5580
      @markmarquis5580 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @kcomst

    I have been trying to fix a parasitic drain on 09 Civic LX that would make the battery die overnight. Replaced the relay but that's not it. Isolated it to fuse #23 under hood. That controls radio, keyless entry, anti-theft system. With the fuse removed, the battery does not die, however now I have no radio, anti-theft or keyless entry. Where do I go from here? I know all of those things can't be bad. How do I isolate it and what is causing the drain? Thanks.

    Hi can I ask about Honda 2005. It's the same issue. But the problem is battery and engine is new. The engine has covered barely 15000 km after being installed. Recently, I checked from a mechanic about the earth wire, which he resolved it at that time, its the same time when we installed the battery. So after 5 months of installing the battery and resolving the earth wire issue, the battery dies out of nowhere, the battery shows a green indicator but the current keeps draining. What might be the issue. Car model: Honda Civic 2005 VTI Oriel Prosmatec

And I bought a jumper starter and battery recharger for the issue. And I was recognized that it didn't work for AC. So I am going to buy multimeter, check AC relay switch as same as Homie did it during test. Hopefully it will work fine with replacing AC Relay switch.

    The spot on thing to do is what you do, question the customer.... What conditions do the fault occur in? Next is to deduce what could possibly cause the fault based on the customer's description of the fault? Next is to test, test everything that could be a cause and duplicate the customer's vehicle use. Next is to neck yourself after 7 hours of testing and being told after by the customer that the fault only occurs once every three months. Just kidding but not really not kidding....
