Starting 2024 with the Best Tips and Tricks in Lightroom

- With the new year 2024 upon us, I thought I would present a list of little known (and maybe little used) Lightroom tips and tricks which make my photo processing much more efficient. Hopefully they will help you get your photo processing off to a quick start in 2024.
Time Codes for each tip:
1:00 - Setting copyright preset
3:11 - Setting up the basic panel sliders for precise changes and/or adjustments

Good refresher, thanks. Here's one for you Mickey, instead of holding down your alt key to set white & black point, hold down your shift key and double click on each, and it will move the sider to the correct point .

Thanks again for another useful video ! One tip I'd share on more precise slider adjustments, I think it's quicker just to hover the pointer over the number to the right of the slider bar and use the up and down arrow buttons to move small steps.

I have programed one of my mouse's customizable thumb buttons (there are two of them) to create masks. Doing so eliminates having to constantly move my eyes from the screen to the keyboard when using brushes.
Great idea. What type of mouse do you use?
@@easternshorephotoinstruction Being left handed and with mouse choices limited for a dedicated mouse, I found a Jelly Comb MV09E wireless a few years ago that worked perfectly, but don't believe it is still offered. I use it in conjunction with X-Mouse Control from Softonic (freeware) which allows customizing of all of the input controls of any mouse. But it doesn't end there- in conjunction with the mouse I employ the use of a Behringer X-Touch Mini MIDI controller with MIDI2LR (shareware) customizable software. Once set up, you'll never have to touch your keyboard to edit photos in LRc as the X-Touch can be set up to control all of LR's commands. Although in practice this seems wonderful, but reality is that I set up the "8 pots" to control the most used sliders - Temp thru Sat on the Basic drop down. The X-Touch Mini new is $100 but used can be found for $50 or less. Learning curve for MIDI2LR set up takes a while but with videos available on YT, not that bad.

I am old user of Lr, I know all that tips but it is always good to refresh knowledge. Good tutorial al always. I wish that denoise in Lr is faster, it is so painfully slow and I wish that Adobe makes in 2024 folders for grouping local adjusting brush. I t could be very helpful. Happy New Year!
Thanks for watching! I know what you mean….always nice to have a refresher every now and then. I agree on speeding up the denoise feature. I did notice a decrease in processing time with my new MacBook Pro. But that has the M3 max chip. So I better see some speed improvement. That operation should be optimized for the typical PC.
Awesome tutorial, thank you. I didn’t know the two zoom functions, and I really appreciate the masked denoise concept. I presume you could make two masks, one to reduce noise by 50% and a second reduction of 20% and make different masks. Or just adjust the flow?
You are actually correct on both accounts. You could make two masks or just adjust your flow. Both ways would work. Adjust flows would give you a quicker workflow. But separate masks would give you more latitude for future modifications and changes. It’s really what works best for you. Good ideas though. Thanks for the comments.

One tip though - widening the develop panel. I have seen the advice to use the ALT key on a PC to do this before. It has never worked for me. In other videos I've seen other people saying the same thing. Maybe sometime I will figure out to do it on a PC.....
Thanks for the info! On widening the panel. I have PC laptop…just sitting in the closet. I’ll install LR on it and see what I get. Maybe there is some trick to it. I know on some of these tips I have been advised by Adobe it requires the PC to have a graphic accelerator. Maybe that has something to do with it ?? I’ll let you know what I find out.

Thanks for the sub! You can turn on SOLO mode by right clicking (or Cntrl click for MAC) on any tab in the Develop module (i.e. BASIC, TONE CURVE, TRANSFORM). This will bring up a menu in which you will see solo mode listed about half way down. Let me know if you need any help with this or any other thing. I would be glad to help out. A big thank you from Uruguay!!! I just updated my LR classic, and you tought me many things! I never imagine you could resize the pannel with the opt key!!! COOL !!! Btw I loved your voice, and I as a spanish speaker I could understand you perfectly!. Is there any way I can make all the letters in the panes bigger? Old, and glass user, with this smaller letters are not a good match! And as some fellows said, another vid adding more features and settings would be great! Specially with the new updated version!
Great to hear! That was one of my new year resolutions....to learn Spanish. I haven't gotten far. Just on the basics now. Who knows in a few months maybe we can talk back and forth in Español?

Mickey, I set up my copyright info preset but I have to select that preset for each individual photo. Otherwise the preset states “none”. Have I missed something?
Check this...when you select IMPORT, go to the right side panel, The APPLY DURING IMPORT panel. Make sure your copyright preset is selected in the METADATA dropdown window. Let me know if that works.
@@easternshorephotoinstruction That didn’t work. Probably because I don’t import that way. I had set up an auto import from a folder I call “ready for Lightroom”. But I went back into that auto import set up menu and added the preset as you suggested. It worked! Thanks!!
