This helped me a ton with a Bernina 930, but fortunately, the lever was easier to access. I could get some solvent to it and work it loose, and then clean that up and oil it. The owner wanted to replace it because she was sick of it, but I was able to make her love it again.
Thank you for this video. This did work for me, although I found it hard to get the small black lever to engage the needle bar at first. It took quite a bit of fiddling with it to get it to finally consistently move the needle bar. I’m still not clear how the lubrication helped the fix but I did it anyway. I was about to give up on the machine because I could not figure out what was causing the needle bar not to move. It’s nice to find videos like this where people help other people out of the goodness of their heart. I have posted a few myself.
I also had this problem. I could not move the lever as the pin beneath it is was totally blocked. This pin (with a spring behind it) is moving in and out of the needle bar hole by the movement of the lever. This small hole you can see through the slit. Unfortunately I had to take apart the needle bar mechanism, which is rather simple by taking away the bracket for the lamps first and the to loosen 4 screws. By this you have access to the front of the mechanism. It took some force to get the pin moving again.
Thank you for the video. I imagine if you don't use the basting function on these machines very often that over time this issue can happen, it reminds me of similar problems when I used to work on record players that only got used occasionally like around Christmas time
Singer 760 sort of doing the same thing depending on the settings, I manage to get it working but not sure what I did, I think i just went for straight stitch ? (easy to get to) I did figure it must be the basting LONG stitch since there was no other reason for that function of stopping the needle bar going up and down ? I find the Singer 319 easier to understand ;-)) Many thanks for tip
Hello, My Bernina sewingmachine 1130 has a stitching problem, the sewingmachine in stitching and all of a sudden it go's in a zigzag stitch. And then selecting a other stitch it doesn't go back to normal stitching straight. After turning the sewingmachine of and starting again it wil straight stitch again. Thank you kindly. I was able to get it moving with just oiling.

Hi. Not sure without seeing the machine but sounds like an electronic issue. Thanks.
I have the same problem with a Bernina Record 931. Can you give me some advice? Thanks
Hi. From memory the mechanisms are similar so you should be able to use this video as a general reference. Thanks.
Thank you 😊
