Watching season 2 was like being a 10 year old during the month of December. Every week you go to some party or parade that gets you just a little more excited for Christmas. Finally the day comes and you run out to the tree and all you find is a list of gifts you will be getting 2 years from now.
The source material is literally a third-hand, biased account in universe. It has been stated multiple times the show will be closer to the true events. If you dont like it, dont watch it.

Those scenes were well acted but both conversations ended with the same result. The writers just wanted to have more scenes with them together. Unfortunately the content within those scenes just make Alicent appear crazy.

And really the show is enough to say that they weren't really in character actions. Aemond wouldn't be foolish enough to not have someone with an eye on his mother. Alicent also has not shown that she would betray her son. It would have been way better writing if they met somewhere neutral and were accompanied by "protectors." The queen is not sneaking away lol, neither is the queen regent. Although it is a theme of this season the show still neglects to show how indentured to service Monarchs truly are and how they probably wouldn't get enough privacy to pull off these "secret" meetings
The reality is that most of the changes in HOTD are meant to either make the women look more competent or more sympathetic(often on the expanse of the male characters) or create more interpersonal drama between the characters.
Think the part some want to ignore is the book, if you actually read it, it is very explicitly made clear that it’s not necessarily an accurate account of events and more a collection of perspectives and tellings rewritten. It wasn’t ever presented as fact, so “showisms” imo aren’t that big an issue here

Such a strange season. They made Alicent into a spineless caricature. So inconsistent and useless. In fact, all of the main characters seem to swing back and forth on their motivations and actions.
What in Season 2 would motivate her to want to continue to be in Kings Landing based on the circumstances. She lost all power and influence with Amond running things. Amond proved himself to be deranged by burning down a whole village. And lastly, Helena was in danger too with Amond wanting to force her to fight on dragon back. It makes PERFECT sense for her to want to flee with Halena to Oldtown where they’d be protected before everything got worse.
The alternative to fleeing and taking Helena with her to Oldtown is staying in Kings Landing with 0 power, with her son who torched an entire village, and eventually seeing Helena, her daughter, be forced to ride into battle on Dragonback and likely DIE by Aemond’s command. It wouldn’t make sense for her to pick that.
Only the blood of the dragon may fly a dragon as prince jacerys valaryon said. Only special ppl with special blood should have a dragon. Other wise the royals have no power 😂
Comparing S8 of GOT to S2 of HOTD is insane and delusional. Hotd stands tall above seasons 5-8 of GOT and is masterfully told in comparison. You're just dramatically overplaying your disappointment.
some changes are really cool if you think about it cause if in the books its supposed to be a maesters writings of the events, surely many of the events are lied about like the aegon rooks rest involvement since it makes him look like a fool in the history books if he went into the fight how he did in the show, instead of a brave king who almost died in battle.
Episode 2 was on of the best episodes of not only House of the Dragon but game of thrones in general. Not every episode needs to have fights or battles or wars to be interesting
It just felt like very little happened this season. And then purposefully leaving out characters puts holes in the story forcing them diverge in weird ways to fill them that leaves the story in limbo at certain times. Look at the whole sheep stealer plot. We in reality did not need to see anything dealing with the vale nor rheana. They could have been sent off and it should have been the end of her character and story and they could have just left sheep stealer and nettles out instead of wasting time there.

Aegon is disfigured and burned in a much less powerful position.
