  • Hey everyone, I'm Bernice, a dual medical student (MD) and Master's in Public Policy (MPP) student going into emergency medicine! I took a leave of absence from med school to pursue my Master's at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, which is a different institution than my home med school. This video gives useful insights to help you decide whether taking time away from medical school will make sense for you!

Hey! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video :) I will be starting medical school in the fall. However, I have always been interested in possibly pursuing a masters in public health or a masters in public policy
But I have thought about possibly waiting to pursue that until I am done with residency and possibly doing a fellowship while looking into pursuing an MPH or something. But I know I have a while before I really have to worry about any of that. But it just made me think about how important it is to take advantage of opportunities that could allow me to study and learn more which could help me be a better doctor in the future
This video was so informative so thank you :) I am a new subscriber. And I am really looking forward to seeing more of your content! :D

Wow your room is so nice!!! :) This video pairs so well with the "3 Days in the Life" video. Highly recommend that folks watch that one as well to get a better idea of what it's like in grad school

So glad I found your channel!! I’m a pre med with a bachelors in poli sci & a certificate of public policy. My goal is to get an md/mba & become a cardiologist. I really care about public policy and how healthcare is influenced and can influence other fields such as environmental, transportation, etc. my goal is to do policy research, clinical work, teach & potentially hospital admin down the line. I’m also in Chicago 🫶🏾🫶🏾 any tips or advice for me? I would love to connect!

this video is super informative :) thank you!! May you make a video about advice for finding scholarship opportunities? I'm an incoming first year and am leaning towards pursuing a masters during med school or residency

Thank you so much for this video Dr Bernice!! I'm currently a senior at ND intending to apply to MD/MPP programs and this video answered so many of my questions and saved me a lot of time. Just a question: When did you start applying for the MPP? Was it during your second year of medical school?

MSF there are often scholarships available! That's how I managed to do it, but you have to search for them.
