Mechanics, welding, fabrication, interior, bodywork, painting, general maintenance and more. Doing the best quality of work on a modest budget, sharing the tips and tricks to get the job done.

I have been knocking metal around for most of my adult life. Started as a apprentice sheet metal worker from school. But only lasted 1 year & took up a different approach & became an Electrician.
I have been rebuilding cars & motorcycles as a hobby for over 50 years. But I must say you Sir are a master at tin bashing. Well done , lovely job.
    Regards.

I think it's past time someone design a longer lasting repair for these rust prone cars areas. I have an NB in the states. My idea was always to take a plastic or a stainless polished funnel and tube setup from the rain rail drains and send the water straight out so it doesn't sit inside the fender. When I design things I test them out. I have had my car briefly in the rust belt during winter. I hated it I could feel my car rotting away. Not much you can do about road salts unless you use carbon fiber or special coatings. However everyday rain and the potential rust from that inside can be minimized.

If they are not spot welded in the arch lip they are bonded together, inside they are however you took them off if you removed at a spot weld spot them back in if you cut before then seam weld as you would a normal repair.

Hi mark, great job as always. A few people are commenting about you not showing the process of welding in the inner wheel arch tubs. I have done 2 lots of wheel arch repairs exactly the same process as you have used. I can only imagine you haven't showed this because it would be so hard to film. It is very awkward to do in practice, and personally I detested all the upside down welding and the fact that the welding helmet really gets in the way when you are messing about inside the wheel well. If I ever did another, which is unlikely now, I would fix the outer and inner arch repair panels together with a few pop rivets or self tappers, or better still Clecos if you have some, fit the outer panel to the car and secure it in its' exact position, then fabricate all the inner tub repair sections. Then, tack the inner repairs in so that they will remain in their exact position having done as much welding on the bench as possible, remove the outer panel and weld in the repair section from the outside, fit the outer panel back using the enlarged rivet or self tapper holes for plug welds.

Well done. If you buy 2 outer arch repair panel for the same side you can cut one of them to do the inner arch repair with. It's alot faster and cheaper and less welding. I worked it out one day for every inch of mig welding it cost you 10 euros . That's gas wire and power and allows for nothing else like welder replacement or sheild replacement or a trip to A&E when you get burnt

1 - Your fabrication skills are so good that when I first began watching your vids I was convinced that you are a professional fabricator but in a vid some time ago you said that you arent. I wondered what you do for a living?
2 - When using rattle cans do you use the nozzles that came with the cans or do you use after market ones?

    • @johndavey72

Don't ! Unless you have a natural flair for working with metal you'll just waste your time , energy and money . If you can't use hand tools or d.i.y it just won't happen . Mark is extremely lucky . He has a panache for anything and his father was a panelbeater . What you see him doing he makes it look easy .......it isn't ! I've been in the game for over 50 years and his natural flair and ability is impressive and exceptional .

Just found your channel and i am enjoying it. I do have some constructive criticism though. Please be very careful with the under seal you spray from the gun. I would wear the other mask you're using for mixing the 2 pack. It's well known in our company for being one of the most toxic / carcinogenic products we stocked. So much so, they won't stock it, along with the old school wax oil. I'd personally have the door open for ventilation and kick your dad out the garage for an hour :D Love the detailed longer videos on TH-cam. I know a lot don't have the attention span, so most videos tend to aim for the 12 minute mark. Maybe a mixture of both would be a good balance.

In the last video the inside of the boot (about 15 min into the video) looked as badly rusted as the holes that you were fixing. Great video but it did leave me wondering about the underside of the car (have you thought about getting the seats out and carpets so you can have a thorough check) and compete the boot and around the engine (if necessary) because it would be a shame to have to go back to welding if you were close to gettting it through an MOT. Also, rusted brake discs can be a fail - the carbide grinding discs aren't bad for this - the new one would have a good flat surface on it and you'd be able to complete the job with, with ease... Question for the Q&A. I watch CT in the US working on his VW Beetle and I quite like his attitude. Maybe he's similar to yourselves - he wants to see something brought back to it's former glory - who do you admire as mechanics or engineers on youtube and why?
