Meggy was a very well written character when I started watching SMG4. She was for me an example of how a well written female charater should be. She was gentle, stubborn, went all out for reaching personal aims... She could be used as a trump card for every story since she's a lawyer, a life coach and so on... Now every other girl in the series is absent or useless, and she became little by little basic and annoying, as every other SMG4 's characters and episodes Edit: sorry of my bad english
Fun fact because not everyone may know this, Meggy being a lawyer actually doesn't come out of nowhere. It's been established to be her dream career long before the Lawsuit Arc, in the episode "Mario University". Which is why I think they should have went with that directly instead of the coaching. And now she's alternating between doing one or the other without explaination. Well at least when the writers aren't just ignoring both.
Oh yeah, when they tried to figure out who was eating the spaghetti in the footage shown, and they obviously thought it was Mario when it was actually SMG4 😅
I miss "Ace Attorney" Inkling Meggy, her design/outfit was so cute, even if it was just made up of existing Splatoon gear. Last seen in the Big Chungus episode from early 2019.
Counterpoint: many interesting characters across all media are interesting cause of the tragedies theyve been through, this includes ptsd, you cant just expect writing to avoid tragedies simply cause their bad, they inhance narratives cause we live in a deeply flawed world, which is why we can sympathise for the characters who experience them.
@@HeilRay That doesn't mean PTSD is Character Development. That is the point Merry is making. So far, we haven't seen how Meggy _handles_ her PTSD... Or how she strives to overcome it. When you give a character PTSD, character development is handled by having them work to overcome their PTSD, or learn to live with it so the Trauma doesn't make them go into a frantic state of mind. The problem is, Meggy hasn't shown any sign of overcoming her trauma, and she hasn't been shown making any effort to overcome it.

When a character is given PTSD, viewers want to see how they can handle and overcome PTSD, or find ways to live with it. Meggy hasn't shown how she is overcoming her PTSD or learning to live with it... We do not have episodes where Meggy is going to therapy or have moments where she is shown trying to overcome her trauma, to come to terms with it.
I miss Inkling Meggy to this day And PTSD is not a good character trait or development, Kevin can eat his own words because when she became human, it all went downhill from there and Inklings aren't even humans if you play the Splatoon games.
Something that sort of bugs me is how Meggy’s view on Mr. Puzzles was changed after ANASMG4’s. They sort of did the same thing they did with Tari with what was supposed to be her character growth and just forgot about what happened in Western Spaghetti. I mean Meggy died multiple times (by her idol) and had to see a her dead friend and rival. You’d think there’d be some trauma built from that in which you could sort of see in the Puzzlevision movie by her reaction but otherwise doesn’t exist which is a missed opportunity. That paired with what they did with Leggy and Mr. Puzzles feels wrong to me because Mr. Puzzles orchestrated everything Meggy had to go through in Western Spaghetti and in all the other instances with her friends for the sake of ratings. I’d think it’d take a lot more than some team up for someone to even possibly consider changing their view on someone if that was done to them as Meggy’s expression at the end of ANASMG4’s is probably implying.
Yes me forgor that Puzzlevision did fucked Meggy over, but then again it was wren's own decision and free will to join. And like you said, Wren did kill her multiple times, but it was. Yet again, his choice. So while Puzzlevision did set it up. He was the one that decided to do all of that, which in my opinion. Makes both just as bad as each other.
0:58 We actually see what happens when an Inkling gets all the ink sucked out. Splatoon 3 had Grizz drain Cuttlefish of his ink, so now Cuttlefish is permanently stuck in squid form. Essentially, the polar opposite of what happened to Meggy.
Meggy is such a nice character. She was even my favourite for a while. Her energy and determination and just straight up cute she was made her likable. But it wasn’t until 2022 when I noticed she got flanderized. Her getting mad wasn’t something that defined who she was. It was rare to see someone like herself get so angry. Now she’s turned into a short tempered complainer. And the Leggy thing just ruined her more. Not to mention the Mr Puzzles team up was so annoying to me. Mr Puzzles was the reason she had to go through all that stuff in western spaghetti. All in all, she’s a character that was once amazing and now has become one note
Honestly I'm pretty sad about this. Meggy's character and the end of the Anime Arc is where the SMG4 series started going downhill. And honestly, back when she was first introduced, she used to be a cool and level-headed character, basically being the straight man with everyone else being the funny man basically. It was a nice change of pace at the time, and she didn't constantly mess up when she tried to do cool things, like the other characters would. She was my favorite character for a long time because she was cool, skilled and kinda sassy at times. But now her original character is completely gone. Usually giving more depth to a character makes them better, you know ? But honestly, Meggy (and well most if not all SMG4 characters) were better when they were simpler and more one-dimensional characters. At this point, if SMG4 and its characters want a shot at being good again, making a clean slate with a reboot of the SMG4 series is pretty much a necessity.

The fact that it actually resulted in a death, the first permanent death in the show (which doesn't even makes sense considering how many times the other characters have died in the past and were fine), is what starts the show going downhill. The rest of the arc is very good. But it was the darkest arc of them all back then, and after all this tension, we wanted things to go back to the way they were. But they never truly did with Desti's permanent death. And it only got worse from here.

Thing is, I actually like Meggy, even after her new change. But, yeah. They really need to figure out what her character needs at this point. Ever since the Western Spaghetti arc, she just became a background character. Heck, even during Puzzlevision, she didn’t really do anything. And don’t even get me started on when she was reduced to: “Lol, Leggy adorable.” Like, Leggy’s cute, but just is kinda annoying. Hopefully someday, maybe another Puzzlevision saga arc, which I’m convinced was supposed to end with Puzzlevision and also be the end of SMG4 in general, they’ll make her have purpose.
Yeah I definitely miss the cool kick butt version of her in her earlier appearances, but now they seem to go out of their way to make her the but of more jokes when I feel like that role works better on someone like Boopkins. Though you could say that all the trauma she’s been through is slowly deteriorating her sanity making her embrace the memeiness of her friends.
The problem is that she worked when she was THE strong female of SMG4, even when Tari was brought in, which made a nice contrast of a strong character and a more reserved character. But now that Tari is the only one like that, the old characterization of Meggy was flanderized and given to other female ocs just for the sake of it
Meggy has become a fan favorite to one of the biggest controversies. I do wish she was handled alot better, especially by the fact in sunset paradise she said she'd be back sometime to Auri. But for 3 years she never bothered to come back
Basically, Meggy is kinda the mascot of the SMG4 Channel in a way. Which could be true due to her plot armour/how popular she is nowadays. Honestly, in my opinion, there are two options for Meggy. One: Is kill her, but end up triggering the MxM shippers and lose some subscribers. Or Two: Give her a long break for her character, as she is being used too much in like pretty much every episode. But the SMG4 Channel is probably just milking her character too much because again of her popularity. To the point that the SMG4 fans are getting kinda tired of seeing her all the time in newer episodes, again and again AND again.
They just have no idea what to do with Meggy now. I feel like they keep her around, because she's a fan favourite, but they don't really know what to do with her. Not to mention, every time she gets development, that could have gone to another character. A lot of the characters in smg4 are just kind of stagnant, but Meggy keeps getting development seemingly every change she gets.
And that's a problem: her character gets way too deep for her character's good. Apparently the writing team forgot about a lil' something called *Meggy's Destiny* , you know: *HER OWN FUCKIN MOVIE* .
It’s good to see the old fanbase care about what was once a developed character within the SMG4 crew, but I’m pretty sure most of us grew out of SMG4 entirely to even care about what any of SMG4’s beloved characters have become today.
Meggy pretty much reminds me of all the bad traits of Bojack Horseman; She's good at anything she puts her mind too, has many friends who love her, and she's already made some big accomplishments in her life, yet for some reason, it's not enough and the universe owes her more than what she has.

Ah, Meggy Spletzer, the most controversial character in the cast. Over time I have been able to confirm that this was mostly due to the poor execution of the ideas that only fed that bad image she had, especially the part about changing her personality by making her human, which was where many found it easier to point out her beginning of decline, since now she was a kind of orange Mario. I say this because later ideas like her Spin Off or her voice change would be less well accepted by the fandom. For my part, on the one hand I see Meggy as a very poorly written character. More than anything because of the purpose of winning the competition for a bully of only three episodes who at the last moment connected with her in something, the little and nothing she maintained after what she experienced in Sunset Paradise and then directly condemning everyone at the beginning of the Lawsuit Arc so that later by force she is the heroine of the story. Although on the other hand, currently she does not seem like an annoying character to me, because I think she is in the middle of a decent character and a bad character. Mostly because of moments like when she tries to climb up the rope of an elevator and Mario looks at her strangely because they can use the stairs. Still, modern times prevent me from seeing her as a character as bad as SMG4 or Saiko. And also, Tari, who in theory is the girl with the least remarkable moments in SMG4, surpasses her by far in terms of consistency and personality. Reason why Luigi and Tari are my favorite characters.

She was great when she was inkling being a chill younger sister to the crew and had actual flaws like she sucked at cooking, dosen't have pashinets when wanting to fight enemies and can't swim but she still wasn't stupid and likable but now as human she is a rude person who loses her pashinets easily being a coward for stupid stuff like bees and is now so stupid sometimes even stupider then Mario like WTF this isn't Meggy at all and she appears to much to the point I don't want to see her at all in any more videos and onistly I don't see Inkling Meggy and Human Meggy as the same character she is a imposter I refuse to believe they are the same
Meggy was the one who marked a before and after in the SMG4 series, she was actually an inkling girl that Mario met who would transform into a human and then participate in the SMG4 gang, she was the one who helped the gang in very difficult times, had adventures and made a strong friendship with Mario; She was the one who brought the adrenaline, the fun and increased the action which translated into success and glory to the SMG4 channel. After Western Spaghetti Meggy began to appear very little and after transforming into Leggy her tiny goomba form would at first be like a meme but then it would go from being a meme to being a character that would slowly replace the original for a short time, Leggy as cute as she is is boring, incapable, makes Meggy look weak and shows the opposite of what she usually is. Meggy's purpose is to be the member with the most common sense and good sense, she is the opposite pole of Tari since Meggy is brave and Tari is cowardly, they have that same common quality as Mario and Luigi. She is the one who is meant to help solve difficult problems in the gang and come up with solutions, obviously without ruining the comedy and fun.
I think another problem with her was how much was done with her, but I'd say she started falling down after her character arc, or more correctly, the Anime arc ended. She didn't need deeper development after her own movie which already did its job, and yet she got more and more On a lighter tone, Leggy actually started getting hated, and the issue was this: she was never made to be a fully fledged character, just a background joke.
When I noticed SMG4 started to have more main characters that I didn't find appealing, I kinda stopped watching their videos entirely. Now I feel alienated when watching new vids from their channel.

Honestly, as of now I still think both Meggy's re-design and (especially) Desti's death were really unnecessary to the series. "WHAT IF?" just proves two points in favor of my argument: 1) The two can potentionally co-exist if Desti canonically survived, which in turn would've meant extra (and potentially better) character development for both of them. 2) The writers really had no idea on what to do with Desti since Meggy dies in the former's survival what-if scenario, in turn proving how the way they handled perma-deaths was really stupid. Listen: if you pull the shit WHAT IF? tried with the what-if of Desti surviving and Meggy dying, all I'm understanding is that you don't know how to write at least decent rival characters. Seriously, Desti could've been a major source for better character development for Meggy and now she's basically forgotten.

As amazing as the anime arc was for its time (by SMG4 standards), I don’t say this lightly: Meggy becoming human was part of what killed my interest in SMG4. Even when it was first uploaded, people thought it was strange but didn’t pay it much mind. Nowadays, I see it as the start of her slow and painful degradation as a character. She used to be the one sane girl in a classroom full of lunatics, but now she’s just like all the rest. And Leggy needs to get thrown into a hot kiln.
Ya know, this reminds me of the villagers from Animal Crossing. They liked long conversations, they were rude, they had LIFE put into them. Now, they're just: Hi, how are ya? Nobody gets mad about not getting letters anymore let alone acknowledge the subject, they're completely nice no matter what, their only reactions are "welcome back" after you were gone for a week(unless it's like a best friend status thing being emotional) and worst, they say one or two lines as their conversation with you. This is the equivalent and how I feel about both Meggy and the AC villagers.
Now this is very minor thing of about what I’m about to say about Meggy actually its about how Splatoons lore now a things to note 1.yada yada yada we are ded (we being humans) and then 12,000 years later squids and octopuses and other sea life became sapient after the fall of civilization (also no mammals survived) 2.if gmod had lore it will be the weirdest longest lore yet especially for characters that live in the future and in the past all while some age and some do not (ie we have humans with sea life years after they went extinct but also with (Non Avian) dinosaurs who are supposed to be extinct but yet some managed to survive somehow and living alongside Ghosts and Aliens and Kaijus and monsters and Pokémon and Dragons and robots and horror characters and cartoon characters and…soooooo many etcs. My brain starts to question game characters, etc that exist in the future at the end of the world (specifically humans are dead) and yet they are in a world where humans and other things are just living together somehow and someway (the equivalent of this is you finding that only Las Vegas was screwed over, yet everyone everywhere alongside everything is still alive and intact) (the inkling equivalent will be being next to some variety of dinosaurs that has been extinct (when you kind found the bones) and yet they are chilling in normal society of their own with out problems) (basically this is awkward for the species that have been extinct and alive.) And for what if Mario was in Splatoon I forgot about the singleplayer and just realized why they didn’t add that into it? (Specifically the other characters and have them be surprised that humans are alive still due to Mario’s presence) Same with Splatoon 2 and then DLC of it and Splatoon 3 (like I’m guessing that the gmod verse of this the inklings and octolings didn’t fight for land no more since their was more land somewhere else and so Cap’n Cuttlefish is now a pstd war vet in his old age thinking that Octavio is doing something when he also was thinking the same thing.) so is theirs no agent 1,2 and 3 and etc no more because of the extra land they found or?…. (I’m just confused about the implications and I’m sorry if I confused you as well.)

There was an episode that made Meggy look like a hypocrite, it is the one in which Marty debuts, Mario does not feel well emotionally and Bob and Boopkins propose a Spa session for him to relax (it's a trap), Meggy disapproves of the idea saying "Mario needs to face his problems head-on, not go on vacation" when I heard that I said "with what right do you say it" you went to Port Aurora to do that. I know it's a joke and a possible reference to Sunset Paradise but it made her look like a hypocrite who wants things to be resolved her way, even if it contradicts her past, or implies that her vacation in Port Aurora was a mistake which is worse.
Bro I feel like I'm the only person that hates her design. Seeing it made me really appreciate the inkling designs of splatoon in general. I wish she stayed in her inkling form and I hope she gets it back, cuz the human one is making my ass itch.
I think Meggy reached her peak with her movie and I’m perfectly okay with that. Granted what’s happened to her nowadays isn’t great (despite my feelings about Western Spaghetti), she’s still one over my favorite characters on the channel.
For me, I was binge watching all of the SMG4 episodes from 2019 onward and I have seen a STEEP decline in Meggy's character progression. What really ticked me off was the fact that she had three (THREE!!!) evil personas in the span of like two years. There was desti, dark meggy (which was just retarded), and then her original inkling form. (Meggy has to be schizo at this point) Like, the girl's not an interesting character anymore. This video is spot on.
I'm fairly sure Shadow Meggy didn't even do jack shit in her lore. I know she appeared just before Sunset Paradise started, but I never really cared about GLITCH at the time and to this day, I kinda still don't care about Sunset Paradise specifically

Boy, you can't even begin to imagine how hyped I was to see Squid Meggy again. I thought: "Holy shit, they did it. It took YEARS for them to understand this, but THEY DID IT."... aand then she was used just for "If Mario was in... Splatoon 3", which was barely even about Splatoon 3. That episode was like the Persona 4 theory of Matpat, but SMG4: it felt like the only thing connecting Splatoon 3 to that episode was a few characters from it, nothing more
genuinely the writers for smg4 suck. at this point they've ignored so much major lore that its an absolute annoyance. like- honest they've absolutely dumbed down the characters personalities more than the fandom itself has and thats sad to see. I love meggy as a character and in all honesty shes just been entirely dumbed down to fit in with the main cast. also when you mentioned meggy and desti not really having much and her death basically being something that meggy shouldn't have been affected by i was kinda annoyed. its been shown multiple times throughout the entire smg4 series that things happen outside of episodes. its very possible that meggy and desti had formed some sort of bond together whether it be rivalry or not, i feel that meggys greif was entirely valid and she had all reason to be upset and grieve over desti's death. not to mention either way seeing someone die that you've had in your life for a period of time whether friends or not is still something that would affect a person.
I think the original Direction with Meggy was her becoming a cop considering Sunset Paradise he best friend was as sheriff and I theme of bringing justices but I think the idea got cut due to people not really liking cop (and plus considering she one of the marketable Character) I kinda wish we got an episode to show why Meggy quit instead of it being a Q&A
Meggy had a cat, Loaf at some point, and he rarely shows up. Meggy character really started to go downhill for me after her voice actor from Lizzie to Elsie got changed as she felt like a very different character in the way that she was written.

In my opinion, I feel that after the Anime arc was when her character gone downhill. SMG4 really did not know what to do with her from there. That how I feel as she becomes like the other characters, losing what made her special.
Atleast she was put in more thoughts compared to the other new ones, where it felt like they just their to replace the old copyrighted characters. And also It was never made sense why she turned into humans since Inklings aren't biologically half human.
smg4 is going to remake all of his old videos. the reason his old videos is so good is because it was no censor, all the characters was focused on and nobody was forgotton, it was actually funny with the memes, it had moments and character arc that gets you hyped. now smg4 is just 1. characters that go nowhere 2. characters who are forgotton (steve, bowser, toad, etc) 3. only the main ones like mario, meggy and smg4 are focused on 4. they arent that funny anymore i might watch one when im bored but i laugh only once or do a fake laugh 5. censor everywhere 6. "lets remake all the old videos even thought they were already good without us touching them" theres a reason why if you go to his popular videos the ones after the "sued" arc isnt that high (or maybe because its older but still)
To be honest, when I see the Leggy parts after Meme Hunters, I am getting a strong feeling that this is a sign that Mr Puzzles has taken over the show. Why? Because Meggy had become "Leggy" Multiple times before, yet _only_ in Meme Hunters does SMG4 (who isn't acting like a Meme Guardian that he is _supposed_ to be) actually name her "Leggy"... As for another notable detail, for some reason in Meme Hunters, SMG4 apparently "Wrote a Script" related to the whole episode. The thing about SMG4 prior to Puzzlevision _AND_ "It has to be Perfect", was that he _never_ made his fellow cast members "Follow A Script". The one who did that was Mr Puzzles, made most notable in the Puzzle Vision Movie and the Five-Part Series prior to that. Another sign of Mr Puzzles Taking over, is when the characters act out of character. Examples include SMG4 Acting like a Clown in "Kill Mario", Mario _further_ devolving into an outright _Manbaby_ in the Plane Trip episode, Meggy _suddenly_ seeing the "Good" in Mr Puzzles (nevermind that his _ONE_ good Moment in that episode was a throwaway line at the start of the episode that does not make up for what Mr Puzzles has done as a whole to the cast and many other people in-universe), and Meme Factory made Mario a million times worse... Oh, and Luigi is apparently only Good as a "Tool". This is a sign that the scripts are being written by someone who only has a Partial interest in the characters, someone like Mr Puzzles, who only sees the cast as Tools to garner his own fame.

I just realized that smg4 is having the same problem as marvel.Both of these series had good characters but later on made them one dimensional which made there fandom hate the modern version,and begging for them to do a reboot.
imo she became overused like Sunset Paradise could of end her character arc only to act like Sunset Paradise nothing happened at all, and kept on being use for her "character arc" AKA trying to keep her in the spotlight being almost a mary-sue. IMO Meggy more better off with Saiko and Tari Edit: I like her Human Design Better anyways. Splatsource ruined the inkling look
Maybe because memes and serious stories don’t gel together. I do admit Meloney was just side character until they were given something. I think her story of her character is concluded. Tari character development did concluded too. But it’s seems that the characters are just acting like they are in a show at some points. I still think it’s the saturation of too many characters.
I think part of the problem is also my main problem with modern SMG4: it's not that funny anymore. I know that that doesn't sound like very constructive criticism, but what I mean is that it's more focused on actual storytelling rather than just being stupid and funny, that's the reason why the only videos I'm interested in are the yearly "Mario tries to do something mundane but the situation quickly becomes more insane around him" episodes. These characters weren't made with actual plot in mind, so any time you put them in a serious plot they're going to feel out of character.
Meggy is, in my opinion, the one that kinda hit hard for me. I really enjoyed Meggy's character, the way she was portrayed with a different animation style and serious disposition without the constant use of memes definitely hooked me. It's a shame they removed all her life and made her as generic as the others. There's no charm, and I find her current story far astray from the simple one. One of the biggest praises I had for her debut was to have her lose and get realistically upset, and then show Mario's softer side while still keeping him in-character. I found it sadder than any death, similar to the Waluigi Arc. Definitely one of the best Modern SMG4 scenes, kinda wish we kept that energy. This video definitely had some things I definitely agreed with, good job.
Meggy was a very well written character when I started watching SMG4. She was for me an example of how a well written female charater should be. She was gentle, stubborn, went all out for reaching personal aims... She could be used as a trump card for every story since she's a lawyer, a life coach and so on... Now every other girl in the series is absent or useless, and she became little by little basic and annoying, as every other SMG4 's characters and episodes

Fun fact because not everyone may know this, Meggy being a lawyer actually doesn't come out of nowhere. It's been established to be her dream career long before the Lawsuit Arc, in the episode "Mario University".
Which is why I think they should have went with that directly instead of the coaching. And now she's alternating between doing one or the other without explaination. Well at least when the writers aren't just ignoring both.
Oh yeah, when they tried to figure out who was eating the spaghetti in the footage shown, and they obviously thought it was Mario when it was actually SMG4 😅

I Gotta Feel Bad For Meggy Since Writers Poorly Treated & Handled Her & Really Ruined Her Friendship With Mario.
Something that sort of bugs me is how Meggy’s view on Mr. Puzzles was changed after ANASMG4’s. They sort of did the same thing they did with Tari with what was supposed to be her character growth and just forgot about what happened in Western Spaghetti. I mean Meggy died multiple times (by her idol) and had to see a her dead friend and rival. You’d think there’d be some trauma built from that in which you could sort of see in the Puzzlevision movie by her reaction but otherwise doesn’t exist which is a missed opportunity. That paired with what they did with Leggy and Mr. Puzzles feels wrong to me because Mr. Puzzles orchestrated everything Meggy had to go through in Western Spaghetti and in all the other instances with her friends for the sake of ratings. I’d think it’d take a lot more than some team up for someone to even possibly consider changing their view on someone if that was done to them as Meggy’s expression at the end of ANASMG4’s is probably implying.

Meggy is such a nice character. She was even my favourite for a while. Her energy and determination and just straight up cute she was made her likable. But it wasn’t until 2022 when I noticed she got flanderized. Her getting mad wasn’t something that defined who she was. It was rare to see someone like herself get so angry. Now she’s turned into a short tempered complainer. And the Leggy thing just ruined her more. Not to mention the Mr Puzzles team up was so annoying to me. Mr Puzzles was the reason she had to go through all that stuff in western spaghetti. All in all, she’s a character that was once amazing and now has become one note

Honestly I'm pretty sad about this. Meggy's character and the end of the Anime Arc is where the SMG4 series started going downhill.
And honestly, back when she was first introduced, she used to be a cool and level-headed character, basically being the straight man with everyone else being the funny man basically.
It was a nice change of pace at the time, and she didn't constantly mess up when she tried to do cool things, like the other characters would.
She was my favorite character for a long time because she was cool, skilled and kinda sassy at times.
But now her original character is completely gone. Usually giving more depth to a character makes them better, you know ?
But honestly, Meggy (and well most if not all SMG4 characters) were better when they were simpler and more one-dimensional characters.
At this point, if SMG4 and its characters want a shot at being good again, making a clean slate with a reboot of the SMG4 series is pretty much a necessity.
@@HeroTheHedgehog999 Well to me it's just the ending. The fact that it actually resulted in a death, the first permanent death in the show (which doesn't even makes sense considering how many times the other characters have died in the past and were fine), is what starts the show going downhill.
The rest of the arc is very good. But it was the darkest arc of them all back then, and after all this tension, we wanted things to go back to the way they were.
But they never truly did with Desti's permanent death. And it only got worse from here.

Thing is, I actually like Meggy, even after her new change. But, yeah. They really need to figure out what her character needs at this point. Ever since the Western Spaghetti arc, she just became a background character. Heck, even during Puzzlevision, she didn’t really do anything. And don’t even get me started on when she was reduced to: “Lol, Leggy adorable.” Like, Leggy’s cute, but just is kinda annoying. Hopefully someday, maybe another Puzzlevision saga arc, which I’m convinced was supposed to end with Puzzlevision and also be the end of SMG4 in general, they’ll make her have purpose.

Yeah I definitely miss the cool kick butt version of her in her earlier appearances, but now they seem to go out of their way to make her the but of more jokes when I feel like that role works better on someone like Boopkins. The problem is that she worked when she was THE strong female of SMG4, even when Tari was brought in, which made a nice contrast of a strong character and a more reserved character. But now that Tari is the only one like that, the old characterization of Meggy was flanderized and given to other female ocs just for the sake of it

Ah, Meggy Spletzer, the most controversial character in the cast. Over time I have been able to confirm that this was mostly due to the poor execution of the ideas that only fed that bad image she had, especially the part about changing her personality by making her human, which was where many found it easier to point out her beginning of decline, since now she was a kind of orange Mario. I say this because later ideas like her Spin Off or her voice change would be less well accepted by the fandom.
For my part, on the one hand I see Meggy as a very poorly written character. More than anything because of the purpose of winning the competition for a bully of only three episodes who at the last moment connected with her in something, the little and nothing she maintained after what she experienced in Sunset Paradise and then directly condemning everyone at the beginning of the Lawsuit Arc so that later by force she is the heroine of the story. Although on the other hand, currently she does not seem like an annoying character to me, because I think she is in the middle of a decent character and a bad character. Mostly because of moments like when she tries to climb up the rope of an elevator and Mario looks at her strangely because they can use the stairs. Still, modern times prevent me from seeing her as a character as bad as SMG4 or Saiko. And also, Tari, who in theory is the girl with the least remarkable moments in SMG4, surpasses her by far in terms of consistency and personality. Reason why Luigi and Tari are my favorite characters.

Meggy was the one who marked a before and after in the SMG4 series, she was actually an inkling girl that Mario met who would transform into a human and then participate in the SMG4 gang, she was the one who helped the gang in very difficult times, had adventures and made a strong friendship with Mario; She was the one who brought the adrenaline, the fun and increased the action which translated into success and glory to the SMG4 channel. After Western Spaghetti Meggy began to appear very little and after transforming into Leggy her tiny goomba form would at first be like a meme but then it would go from being a meme to being a character that would slowly replace the original for a short time, Leggy as cute as she is is boring, incapable, makes Meggy look weak and shows the opposite of what she usually is. Meggy's purpose is to be the member with the most common sense and good sense, she is the opposite pole of Tari since Meggy is brave and Tari is cowardly, they have that same common quality as Mario and Luigi. She is the one who is meant to help solve difficult problems in the gang and come up with solutions, obviously without ruining the comedy and fun.
I think another problem with her was how much was done with her, but I'd say she started falling down after her character arc, or more correctly, the Anime arc ended. She didn't need deeper development after her own movie which already did its job, and yet she got more and more
On a lighter tone, Leggy actually started getting hated, and the issue was this: she was never made to be a fully fledged character, just a background joke.

Honestly, as of now I still think both Meggy's re-design and (especially) Desti's death were really unnecessary to the series. "WHAT IF?" just proves two points in favor of my argument:
1) The two can potentionally co-exist if Desti canonically survived, which in turn would've meant extra (and potentially better) character development for both of them.
2) The writers really had no idea on what to do with Desti since Meggy dies in the former's survival what-if scenario, in turn proving how the way they handled perma-deaths was really stupid.
Listen: if you pull the shit WHAT IF? tried with the what-if of Desti surviving and Meggy dying, all I'm understanding is that you don't know how to write at least decent rival characters.

As amazing as the anime arc was for its time (by SMG4 standards), I don’t say this lightly: Meggy becoming human was part of what killed my interest in SMG4. Even when it was first uploaded, people thought it was strange but didn’t pay it much mind. Nowadays, I see it as the start of her slow and painful degradation as a character. She used to be the one sane girl in a classroom full of lunatics, but now she’s just like all the rest. And Leggy needs to get thrown into a hot kiln.

Ya know, this reminds me of the villagers from Animal Crossing. They liked long conversations, they were rude, they had LIFE put into them. Now, they're just: Hi, how are ya? Nobody gets mad about not getting letters anymore let alone acknowledge the subject, they're completely nice no matter what, their only reactions are "welcome back" after you were gone for a week(unless it's like a best friend status thing being emotional) and worst, they say one or two lines as their conversation with you. This is the equivalent and how I feel about both Meggy and the AC villagers.

1.yada yada yada we are ded (we being humans) and then 12,000 years later squids and octopuses and other sea life became sapient after the fall of civilization (also no mammals survived)
2.if gmod had lore it will be the weirdest longest lore yet especially for characters that live in the future and in the past all while some age and some do not (ie we have humans with sea life years after they went extinct but also with (Non Avian) dinosaurs who are supposed to be extinct but yet some managed to survive somehow and living alongside Ghosts and Aliens and Kaijus and monsters and Pokémon and Dragons and robots and horror characters and cartoon characters and…soooooo many etcs.
My brain starts to question game characters, etc that exist in the future at the end of the world (specifically humans are dead) and yet they are in a world where humans and other things are just living together somehow and someway (the equivalent of this is you finding that only Las Vegas was screwed over, yet everyone everywhere alongside everything is still alive and intact) (the inkling equivalent will be being next to some variety of dinosaurs that has been extinct (when you kind found the bones) and yet they are chilling in normal society of their own with out problems) (basically this is awkward for the species that have been extinct and alive.)
And for what if Mario was in Splatoon I forgot about the singleplayer and just realized why they didn’t add that into it? There was an episode that made Meggy look like a hypocrite, it is the one in which Marty debuts, Mario does not feel well emotionally and Bob and Boopkins propose a Spa session for him to relax (it's a trap), Meggy disapproves of the idea saying "Mario needs to face his problems head-on, not go on vacation" when I heard that I said "with what right do you say it" you went to Port Aurora to do that.
I know it's a joke and a possible reference to Sunset Paradise but it made her look like a hypocrite who wants things to be resolved her way, even if it contradicts her past, or implies that her vacation in Port Aurora was a mistake which is worse.

Bro I feel like I'm the only person that hates her design. Seeing it made me really appreciate the inkling designs of splatoon in general. I wish she stayed in her inkling form and I hope she gets it back, cuz the human one is making my ass itch.
I think Meggy reached her peak with her movie and I’m perfectly okay with that. Granted what’s happened to her nowadays isn’t great (despite my feelings about Western Spaghetti), she’s still one over my favorite characters on the channel.

For me, I was binge watching all of the SMG4 episodes from 2019 onward and I have seen a STEEP decline in Meggy's character progression.
What really ticked me off was the fact that she had three (THREE!!!) evil personas in the span of like two years. There was desti, dark meggy (which was just retarded), and then her original inkling form. (Meggy has to be schizo at this point)
Like, the girl's not an interesting character anymore. This video is spot on.
I'm fairly sure Shadow Meggy didn't even do jack shit in her lore.
I know she appeared just before Sunset Paradise started, but I never really cared about GLITCH at the time and to this day, I kinda still don't care about Sunset Paradise specifically

Same here about the artstyle. Honestly I've seen the advertisements on the SMG4 channel and it would've been a lot better if Meggy's model stayed consistent, same for the show's art direction

Boy, you can't even begin to imagine how hyped I was to see Squid Meggy again.
I thought: "Holy shit, they did it. It took YEARS for them to understand this, but THEY DID IT."... aand then she was used just for "If Mario was in... Splatoon 3", which was barely even about Splatoon 3.
That episode was like the Persona 4 theory of Matpat, but SMG4: it felt like the only thing connecting Splatoon 3 to that episode was a few characters from it, nothing more
genuinely the writers for smg4 suck. at this point they've ignored so much major lore that its an absolute annoyance. like- honest they've absolutely dumbed down the characters personalities more than the fandom itself has and thats sad to see. I love meggy as a character and in all honesty shes just been entirely dumbed down to fit in with the main cast.
also when you mentioned meggy and desti not really having much and her death basically being something that meggy shouldn't have been affected by i was kinda annoyed. its been shown multiple times throughout the entire smg4 series that things happen outside of episodes. its very possible that meggy and desti had formed some sort of bond together whether it be rivalry or not, i feel that meggys greif was entirely valid and she had all reason to be upset and grieve over desti's death. not to mention either way seeing someone die that you've had in your life for a period of time whether friends or not is still something that would affect a person.
That's understandable, but they actually should have shown that to us instead of just having it happen off screen

I think the original Direction with Meggy was her becoming a cop considering Sunset Paradise he best friend was as sheriff and I theme of bringing justices but I think the idea got cut due to people not really liking cop (and plus considering she one of the marketable Character) I kinda wish we got an episode to show why Meggy quit instead of it being a Q&A
Meggy had a cat, Loaf at some point, and he rarely shows up.
Meggy character really started to go downhill for me after her voice actor from Lizzie to Elsie got changed as she felt like a very different character in the way that she was written.

In my opinion, I feel that after the Anime arc was when her character gone downhill. SMG4 really did not know what to do with her from there. That how I feel as she becomes like the other characters, losing what made her special.
Atleast she was put in more thoughts compared to the other new ones, where it felt like they just their to replace the old copyrighted characters.
And also It was never made sense why she turned into humans since Inklings aren't biologically half human.
smg4 is going to remake all of his old videos. the reason his old videos is so good is because it was no censor, all the characters was focused on and nobody was forgotton, it was actually funny with the memes, it had moments and character arc that gets you hyped. now smg4 is just
1. characters that go nowhere
2. characters who are forgotton (steve, bowser, toad, etc)
3. only the main ones like mario, meggy and smg4 are focused on
4. they arent that funny anymore i might watch one when im bored but i laugh only once or do a fake laugh
5. censor everywhere

To be honest, when I see the Leggy parts after Meme Hunters, I am getting a strong feeling that this is a sign that Mr Puzzles has taken over the show.
Why? Because Meggy had become "Leggy" Multiple times before, yet _only_ in Meme Hunters does SMG4 (who isn't acting like a Meme Guardian that he is _supposed_ to be) actually name her "Leggy"...
As for another notable detail, for some reason in Meme Hunters, SMG4 apparently "Wrote a Script" related to the whole episode. The thing about SMG4 prior to Puzzlevision _AND_ "It has to be Perfect", was that he _never_ made his fellow cast members "Follow A Script". The one who did that was Mr Puzzles, made most notable in the Puzzle Vision Movie and the Five-Part Series prior to that.
Another sign of Mr Puzzles Taking over, is when the characters act out of character.
Examples include SMG4 Acting like a Clown in "Kill Mario", Mario _further_ devolving into an outright _Manbaby_ in the Plane Trip episode, Meggy _suddenly_ seeing the "Good" in Mr Puzzles (nevermind that his _ONE_ good Moment in that episode was a throwaway line at the start of the episode that does not make up for what Mr Puzzles has done as a whole to the cast and many other people in-universe), and Meme Factory made Mario a million times worse... Oh, and Luigi is apparently only Good as a "Tool".
This is a sign that the scripts are being written by someone who only has a Partial interest in the characters, someone like Mr Puzzles, who only sees the cast as Tools to garner his own fame.

I just realized that smg4 is having the same problem as marvel.Both of these series had good characters but later on made them one dimensional which made there fandom hate the modern version,and begging for them to do a reboot.

imo she became overused like Sunset Paradise could of end her character arc only to act like Sunset Paradise nothing happened at all, and kept on being use for her "character arc" AKA trying to keep her in the spotlight being almost a mary-sue. IMO Meggy more better off with Saiko and Tari

Maybe because memes and serious stories don’t gel together. I do admit Meloney was just side character until they were given something. I think her story of her character is concluded. Tari character development did concluded too. But it’s seems that the characters are just acting like they are in a show at some points. I still think it’s the saturation of too many characters.
Me who hasn’t watched smg4 in years: hm yes very interesting.
I think part of the problem is also my main problem with modern SMG4: it's not that funny anymore. I know that that doesn't sound like very constructive criticism, but what I mean is that it's more focused on actual storytelling rather than just being stupid and funny, that's the reason why the only videos I'm interested in are the yearly "Mario tries to do something mundane but the situation quickly becomes more insane around him" episodes. These characters weren't made with actual plot in mind, so any time you put them in a serious plot they're going to feel out of character.

I miss SMG4 Slenderman
Meggy is, in my opinion, the one that kinda hit hard for me. I really enjoyed Meggy's character, the way she was portrayed with a different animation style and serious disposition without the constant use of memes definitely hooked me. It's a shame they removed all her life and made her as generic as the others. There's no charm, and I find her current story far astray from the simple one.
One of the biggest praises I had for her debut was to have her lose and get realistically upset, and then show Mario's softer side while still keeping him in-character. I found it sadder than any death, similar to the Waluigi Arc.
Definitely one of the best Modern SMG4 scenes, kinda wish we kept that energy. This video definitely had some things I definitely agreed with, good job.
