SAILOR SWIFT TOP KNIT TUTORIAL WITH I-CORD EDGES
Hello and welcome to this tutorial!
In this video I'll show all the steps and techniques you need to know to knit yourself this striped Summer top. Pattern here: www.ravelry.com/patterns/libr...
The Sailor Swift Top is a simple tank top with a slight racerback shape that gives it a contemporary look and a slight cool-girl vibe. The classic striped pattern together with the delicate i-cord edges around the neckline and armholes makes this a true wardrobe favorite that you’re going to want to wear (and knit) again and again.
The top is worked top down in Stockinette stitch, so you can adjust the length to suit your body. First the back is worked back and forth, then stitches are picked up for both fronts and then all stitches are joined in the round to work the body. Lastly stitches are picked up around the neckline and armholes for an i-cord bind off edge.

Not me reading “Taylor Swift”
literally same, I had to do a double take-🤠
I read exactly the same
Me neither! 😊
Saaame 😂
This comment is the only reason I realised it said ‘sailor’ 😂
I like to use double pointed needles when I do an I-Cord bind off! Then instead of slipping the stitches back after I have worked them, I can just slide the stitches to the other side of the dpn and start again. Just a tip for anyone who gets frustrated by all of the slipping!
This is such a wonderful pattern, and will be such a great way to use some of the yarn I have laying around in my stash! Forever thankful!
Thank you! I just casted on a blanket that begins with a 500 row i-cord edge and it’s killing me already 😭
Very well done video! You went through the different techniques at a nice slow pace for those of us who are visual learners. Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful! ☺️
I LOVED the directions for the Italian bind off! It’s become my favorite bindoff for hems and cuffs. Your method is so much simpler than what I’ve been doing. Thanks!
Ive missed ur tutorials like this one. U were one of the first knitters i followed a couple years ago. I realize u had a lot last year. New home, wedding etc. But u r excellent on vlog. When i get to these stage of garment knit I have saved this pattern. Thanks for sharing.
I'm amazed at how incredibly talented you are. I was a huge fan of your photography content and I see that you're equally skilled in this too. 😯

I am really enjoying knitting this for my daughter-it’s a fun pattern and the applied i-cord around the armholes and neckline gives it a beautiful neat edge. Thank you for this design!

Thank you so much for this - I'm nearing the end of the body and needed to see your clear working of the fabulous icord edging.❤

It's so refreshing! I have not been knitting for about 1,5 months after baby knitting marathon and now, whebln the baby is here, I even had some doubts whether I remember the most basic stuff😂 but I am pretty sure I do 😊 very inspiring as always!

Thanks for the mnemonic for how to remember the way to do m1L and m1R. That's brilliant!

This was a very good tutorial. I can’t wait until my yarn arrives to make my own in royal blue with white contrast!!
This is so cute, Kika! I just bought the pattern on Ravelry.. I'm a beginner so I think I will benefit a lot from this tutorial! I love the top, I'm so excited to knit it!! ♥
Very nice top! For the size 2XL the armholes were to big for me. So i made it again a bit different for the arms and a bit longer at the bottom and now it fits! Thank you!
This looks like a top you would purchase from a high end store. Kika, once again, Well done! The top looks amazing on you. I'm finishing a crochet tank top and will be starting on this one next...Thank you!!

Would be great to have this pattern with a V-neck as well:)
Hi Kika! Thank you so much for the tutorial. I have just bought your pattern, it seemed the least I could do to show you my gratitude. I am not such an expert knitter and I appreciate your generous support! 🙏♥️♥️♥️
I will try to knit it with Isager Trio 2 which is 50% linen, 30 cotton and 20 lyocell, 50 gr 175 m, it seems it could work… let me know if you disagree. Any tip welcome!
Can you make a video about how you wash all of your knit wear :)
Excellent video gorgeous top well designed xx

I'm making this to my mom as a surprise gift 😊😊

Spettacolare...sei davvero molto brava...grazie
Merci beaucoup pour ce tutoriel 👍❤

Hello! I've been very looking forward to this pattern and love that you take the time to do these tutorials.
I have a question - does this tank have any sort of waist shaping? I slope quite dramatically from my waist to my (much wider) hips and find that just knitting longer for full length is problematic for me for many non positive ease patterns. If you have any recommendations for how to handle this for someone who is adv beginner-intermediate that would be amazing!
Beautiful
I’ve watched a few of your videos today and love your work! I’m feeling inspired to pick up knitting. Problem is, I don’t know where, or how, to start. I know many people start with easy things like winter scarves, but I have no use for something like that. Any suggestions on how to get started to lead me to something like the Sailor Swift Top?
Thanks Kika😍
Love it
You have an awesome creative and talented mind! Could I knit this on 24" circular needles - beginner here? Any way of making the neckline a bit deeper?????
Very cute shirt! And I’m anxious to use the I-cord facing! Btw, how do I sign up to do test knitting for you?
Thanks!
Lovely
When making a test swatch do you recommend I do so in the round with both colours, or since it begins flat, can I swatch flat?
Do think if i do the cord edges on the bottom of the tank top instead of the rib hem gonna look good ???
This top looks great!
I would love to knit it but I’m afraid the racer shape wouldn’t suit my shoulders. Is there an option in this pattern to make the shoulder straps a little bit wider?
Hi Kika! I just started knitting this top and have a question: as a left-handed knitter, do I need to switch when I M1L and M1R? Stated differently, for row 1 of step 2(upper back) do I keep the original (first do M1L at beginning of row and the M1R at end) OR do the following: K2, M1R, k to last 2x M1L, k2?
Thanks Kika and anyone else who knows the answer!
Oh beautiful
Do you have pattern ? Thank you
I knitted the top following your instructions and it worked perfectly until I reached the italian bind-off. Suddenly the hem started to get wavy and rolled outwards instead of being snug and fitted to the body. Do you have any tips what to do now and how to avoid that?
Could you please tell me how many skeins of drops safran will i need for size M?
I hate the line where it joins so I move the BOR to the side of the garment or better still I work.flat for stripes, its a lot less hassle and looks better . Nice top!
Śliczny top🎉😊
You can also make an icord with a knitting mill and then sew it on and steampress it.flat..its a lot less.work.
Is it me or was the video blurred at some times? Didn't fully get how to make a proper icord but i'll check some tutorials! x) Very nice 'marinière' design, I love it!! ^^
I love your stripe addiction. I also thought "Taylor Swift" and i think you might be the Taylor Swift of knitters.
Does anyone have any feedback on how this sits on top of bra straps? Does it cover them?
The icord bind off really elevates the look
You‘ve got such a beautiful House.
Is the top stretchy
Es ist alles so super gezeigt. Vielen Dank dafür ❤ aber bitte bitte auf Deutsch übersetzt. Auch wir wollen so einmalige schöne Stricksachen machen. Lg Renate 🎉

My I cord edges did not sew together that seamlessly. Help. Anyone else have that problem?
I want to purchase this pattern without registering with PayPal - is that not possible? It says "... or pay with debit/credit card" and I did that and still I cannot purchase the pattern. I don't want to register with PayPal, just pay with my card. Can you help me? This pattern is so beautiful and I want to support you. Kind regards, Dora Sigurdardottir
How many grams did you use?
❤
