  • Scott is a volunteer at the Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue. On Saturdays he facilitates adoptions and Guinea pig bonding. Here we see 2 different bonding sessions. Unedited and unfiltered, Scott shows you what it is really like at the Los Angeles Guinea Pig rescue during adoption day and puts his over 5 years experience at the Guinea Pig Rescue to the test. With over 500 pairings under his belt, Scotty knows a thing or 2 about Guinea Pig behavior and you will too, if you watch very closely. Male Guinea Pigs fight if they are not bonded.

I'm starting to realize, the more I watch your videos, how cruel it was that my 3rd grade teacher kept a single Guinea Pig in our class in a tiny plastic cage small enough for hermit crabs. Each Friday a different kid in the class was selected to take the guinea pig home in it's tiny cage to care for it for the weekend, and bring it back Monday morning. As a child, I didn't know any better but that was sooo cruel. I feel traumatized now, Mrs. Gallagher was a cold bitch. I never liked her as a teacher.

Yassss there was a poooor rabbit in this horribly tiny cage as my school. Had no room to binky, or do zoomies!!! There was also a guinea pig at one of my other schools who had a horrible life in a tiny cage as well! School doesn’t need any class pets!!! It’s cruel and if you can’t provide the animal with a quality life then you don’t need the animal!!!!!

Not sure how to share with the lady that was asking about neutering a skinny pig, but I had Little Foot neutered very successfully. Just have to make sure you go to a trustworthy vet and let the male heal in a small cage for a week or so. Also he has to stay away from the female until 4 weeks healed to be safe to ensure all the sperm is dead and gone.
I found having a skinny pig neutered nice in the sense of being able to see the incisions easily and know they were healing nicely without fur in the way.

I want to add what you said about shavings, that if you have a pig that has been neutered and is healing, the shavings can irritate or harm the stitches so fleece would be good instead. I would use fleece too if the pig had been spayed.

In the u.k we are told to wait 6 weeks for the sperm to die after neutering. I just successfully bonded my 10 month old boar with my 3 year old sow👍 4 weeks on and all is going great. Luckily i have one of the best guinea pig vets in the uk

Julia from Little Adventures have 5 guinea pigs in the same cage. Two are male and three are female. Now, she didn't start it off like that. One of her rescues was pregnant at the time and she didn't know it, so that's how 2 males ended up in a cage with 3 females. But they all get along really, really well. Julie picks guinea pigs from rescues according to their behavior. She chooses what pig she thinks would fit in with the herd according to their actions.

Skinnypigs one mentioned your videos, they are great! I'm an "old geezer" with 17 rescued piggies. Most have health or behavior issues. I have three boars that can't bond with anyone-even my sweet laid back ones! So they are in separate cages next to each other for company. I wish they could bond but the teeth come out right away no matter what neutral territory they are in! I do have a boar trio and a sow quartet.

We have a skinny pig that has been with us for about a month. Last night we brought home another piggy in the obvious hope that they will bond (they are both males, about 5 or 6 months old). We introduced them in a run that we made out of c&c pieces and lined with comfy fleece and put a nice pile of hay in the middle. It seemed to go great at first...Pip (skinny) was thrilled to have someone to hang out with a popcorned all over, they did the usual rear sniffing and chased each other around a little, even had some hay breaks. So we figured they were doing well and moved them to Pip's cage...it was like world war III! They tussled and scrapped until Pip ended up with a little blood from a scratch, then each took a side of the cage as their own. Pip seemed really scared, he stayed in the same exact place for a couple of hours, not wanting to move at all! As soon as Pop (new piggy) came near him they would scrap again. We ended up splitting the cage for now and each side has their own food, water, hidies, etc. I think tonight we will try them in the playpen again for a longer time and try it again in the cage. Maybe it will just take some time for them to be in the same smaller space? Any tips for us? If it doesn't work we will take Pop back and try a different piggy (which is tricky because we don't have a guinea pig rescue), but we want to give him a decent chance before we do!

Scotty! I found a match for my boy Snowy Popcorn! I got him Maverick (4 months old) and he looks like the one that you're holding in this video. I've had Snowy almost a month now. I had noticed how he was barely eating lately omg..and he'd just stay inside his hideout place, not good.... I can't believe how much he's eating right now! Snowy is about 5 months old and I had to keep him in a cage by himself because I was so afraid of putting him together with another male piggie fearing that he might fight and get hurt or vice versa. After watching this video, I realized, how right you are about these piggies being social animals and how they do live happiest with a companion, a buddy to share with so I got him Maverick. The change in Snowy just today, from the moment he saw Maverick has made my eyes teary. He squealed with delight, he wanted to jump out of his cage and get into the other cage. He was so happy, I couldn't BELIEVE what I was seeing! They KNOW so much! They truly have emotions! I was going to introduce them gradually, but I backed down. I grabbed Snowy with a towel just how you explained, and I placed him inside the new larger cage that I got for both. First reaction from Snowy was joy and Maverick was curious/ fearful. Yes, Snowy started humping him and chasing him around the cage, this I felt was normal as that's how they get to know each other, by testing boundaries. I was ready to get in there should I see aggression, but instead I just sat and observed. Yes, there's some dominance etc displays on the part of Snowy, since Maverick is the new boy in town and younger. But guess what ? In just a little while, they were both resting side by side, they eat together from the same bowl, they run and chase each other and then they lay down to relax, no aggressive behavior whatsoever!. There's peace in the house Scotty and lots of joy too. I couldn't be more happier because mama's boys are getting to be great buds. Yay!. The Guinea Pig Boy Bonding .. worked!

I recently had a guinea pig pass away due to having a seizure and watching this has been kinda of eye opening. We had three boys, two in one cage and right next door was the other one. It's interesting out of all the videos I watched no one has said about the duo vs trio for male piggies. We debated getting another piggy but I think for now, for the sanity of our two boys we still have we will be keeping it a duo for now.

I have 2 boys that I adopted from my local animal shelter (Hello from Santa Fe, NM!). They were both rescued from a hoarding situation. One of them had been adopted and returned. I named him Cujo because he bit me so bad I had to go to Urgent Care. It was comical to see him hanging from my thumb! I gave up trying to bond them because Cujo kept attacking Berber. They are happy (especially Berber) now that they each have their own space.

I love all of these videos ❤️ I have a 2 yr old male skinny pig named Gus Gus, and I just recently came across another skinny who needs a home with someone who is available and knowledgeable to give the care he deserves. I would love to give him a home! Gussy gets fresh veggies and some fruits every day, and is in a nice big house (I don't like to say cage lol) That's always clean with fun things to do. I'm just trying to watch as many introduction videos and learn all that I can before I make a big decision like that. I pray it all goes well!!
Send me some good vibes please 😁☮️🕊️
