Thank you so much for advising against bonding babies with adults. Social media is full of bad advice, “you can only bond brothers” or “get a baby for your lone boar as it always works” (until they become teenagers!) We’ve got 16 rescued boys of various ages (mostly old)& none are related.
We have got our 16 boars in a herd- I don’t recommend that to others though as it can be risky. Mine are very chilled boars now (like Saskia’s) and they live in a very large enclosure (or large room in our house in winter). I have spare cages for separating pigs if they were to fall out.
I love your channel. It’s great to see someone else with so many boars.

The Crazy Guinea Pig Family 16 boars in a herd? Are they neutered?

    • @TheCrazyGuineaPigFamily
      @TheCrazyGuineaPigFamily 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Only 2 are neutered (they arrived like that) and 14 aren’t. My original 12 have been together a long time without drama. I’ve recently added 2 special needs piggies (blind, head tilt and 1 who had a stroke after mange seizures) & 2 babies as they weren’t thriving without a healthy grown up pig to “teach them how to pig”! :) 3 weeks later and all is calm. Fingers crossed.

I am so glad to find this video. I have worried about bonding our older boy with our new baby. We adopted him and he has been a single guy for over a year. As far as I know his whole life. After I dug into some research I found out they needed a buddy and adopted a baby. They have cuddled and moved around each other but the most aggressive behavior I have seen is our big guy expressing his dominance. It has been pretty smooth otherwise. I have watched your videos all evening. I did get the original guinea pig after my youngest who is 7 but mature for her age has been asking for one. I am taking responsibility for them both and I have seriously fallen in love with these little guys. Thanks for all you do for these fuzzy sweet pets.

i managed to form a good bond between two boys guinea pigs tied, my first piglet at 8 months was the new 6-7 months. Where we brought the new they said they wouldn’t get along with each other so we could only hope it wouldn’t. They both met for the first time in an unfamiliar area where there was little chasing but no fighting. About an hour later, they lay side by side in the same pose. They’ve been together ever since, there wasn’t a big fight. Sometimes they get together a strand of hay or vegetables. The big one sometimes chases the little one, sometimes they get together and there will be a little force pointing and going to click but that more serious fight is missed by luck. I don’t know if the fact that none of them had a partner in front of each other for a long time contributed to this

I tried to add my boy to three girls. Did not end well. He got bitten on his leg and stomach. When I put him together with just one of the girls, he bit her mouth open, so we rushed her to the vet. It healed just fine, but for now he lives beside them, which he seems fine with. He talks to them at times and popcorns, being active like a normal piggy would. We have been talking about making him a bigger cage and give him a baby girl.

@@cbm_night have you tried bathing them altogether? Bath them, dry them off, have veggies together, bond in a large neutral area. Before trying that try swapping bedding and houses. So they all get used to each others scents for a few weeks.

@@skinnypigs1 We tried to the bathing thing a couple of times, but the boss girl really does not want to give up her status and he wants to be the boss. That guy loves those animals, lol. I rescued a herd of 3 about a month ago. A mommy, a daddy, and a baby girl. I am going to likely end up with two more girls for a bit, so I needed to know how to do this. I am making all the cages myself because I have a ton of space for them in my large basement. I'm working on a design that is mobile and keeps the guinea pigs safe from predator animals so they can free range a bit when the weather gets warmer. :)

funnily enough im having the hardest time bonding my four girls, not my two boys! my old boy loves and gets along with everyone, one of my old girls is extremely aggressive for seemingly no reason to my old boy, other old lady, and two young females, but absolutely adores my young boy, and the older of the two young females HATES my two older ladies and refuses to bond with old lady Badger or old lady Judy, but LOVES my young boy gatsby, my old boy guinness, and my youngest girly peppercorn. ffs i just want them to not kill each other as im over having 3 singles and a trio. (my young boy gets neutered tomorrow and he'll be the next large scale introduction) and i have a 6X5 C&C cage that is able to be further expanded if its just a space issue

I began the bonding process today with my new piggy and my other sweet piggy who lost her cage mate a few weeks ago. I thought it would go very well as the new piggy is extremely easy going, and so is my older piggy. Almost right away they were agressive with eachother, and started getting into. I am unsure how concerned I should be, as There was no blood but my older piggy did pull out clumps if fur from my newer piggy. It's been very stressful. I separated them each time, unsure how serious it was but I'm scared my older piggy is going to hurt the newer one.

Fluffy a year old according to the humane society I rescued him from a week ago. Who is a pound more then Huey. They have had 3 skuffles resulting in scratches on the skinny. Hear a lot of rumble strutting and chattering etc. No bite marks. I only pull the divider from their 2x5 C and C when I can monitor them. Yesterday Huey lunged at Fluffy no fight he back off from what we saw.
Did I make a bad choice in pairing based on the age? Both boys are sweet and usually no issues with the divider. The scratches are just breaking the skin hardly.

Everything was great, lots of "talking" and purring but no teeth chattering. About 15 minutes in the 3 month old peed on the 1 year old, it made him mad. He started chattering his teeth and then the 3 month old started and they did face each other. No biting or lunging, but I got worried so I separated them and put them into their own cages to cool down. Should I keep trying? They were so happy until the little one peed on him. The two skinny pigs snuggled and cuddled because they are so cold and now Samson is missing his Brother AND being chased around by the two other piggies . Never really had an issue with bonding until our Derrick and now I have to split all 4 up. They are fighting like the girls in your video.

Is there a way to tell if it isn’t working out with babies. I just got 2 boys from a breeder, one is 4 months and the other is 6 weeks. I’ve been seeing a lot of humping and bum waving from the older one but no fighting. I would want to be able to separate them before it got serious. Are there warning signs I should look out for?

i like your advice in this video about neutering and surgeries. im going to be getting 3 baby piggies and not sure of 3 females or 2 females and 1 boy but that would mean i would have to neuter the male and he would to too young to do a neuter. and not sure how much the surgery costs. might just do 3 females. plus i feel surgery is wrong and risky.

My craziest bonding story: I was fostering a gorgeous neutered black Silkie adult male for a couple months. The rescue tried to pair him with multiple females and was unsuccessful. I housed him next to 2 other foster (from a really bad hoarder situation) black neutered males. While I was at work, the three males managed to break through the grids to be together. I tried to split them apart, but the next day they were all together again. Knowing that it would near to impossible to adopt out a trio, I adopted all 3. We call them the black horde. They are all Silkies, but only one is obviously from a breeder. He is spectacularly beautiful, but I curse the developer of long haired guinea pigs every day. Why on earth would you think it would be a good idea to breed rodents who need daily brushing and stying? But I digress......

I just bought a baby male, I didnt do my research and now I'm not sure what to do. I looked on Craigslist because I dont want to buy another one and all the ones at the petstore are babies anyway so sounds like they woukd not get along for very long anyway. In Craigslist I foubd someone giving away a single 3 year old male. Should I try that and then if they fight in the future at least I could cage them side by side? I'm not sure what the best option is. I was gonna call the shelter and see if I could bring him to visit, but since hes a baby it sounds like he'll get along with pretty much any boars for now. Should I wait till hes older, is it too mean for him to be alone that long?

I just reconnected my beloved mama piggy with a daughter she hasn’t seen in nearly 4 years. Her cage mate (another daughter) passed away 3 weeks ago, and she desperately needed another companion. Thankfully, they were in that 80%, and got along right away! I even wonder if they somehow remember each other. Hi, Scotty. My question about bonding is this: I have a neutered male and a female. They are litter mates and about 10 months old. I had Salvatore neutered on Dec 11, 2019, and waited 3 months before trying to put the two together. That was on March 11th. Salvatore just chased Tosca around, trying to mate with her. Tosca ran for her life and sprayed pee on Sal. That was only for 20 seconds. I separated them and have not tried again. How should I proceed? Will they ever get along?
