Saskia from Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue Saskia ~ your beautiful soul shines through in the love you have for your piggies. It’s been so educational and helpful to learn from you. Thank you for your devotion. And your love is certainly reflected in your gorgeous countenance! GBY!
I rescued my first pig, Ginny form Craigslist. She was in a tiny plastic tub, underweight with pine shavings in her fur, pellets, and no hay. When I brought her home she refused to come out of her hide for weeks, until we adopted my other pig Maxine from a local shelter. It was like an immediate personality change, they didn’t ‘play’ together but Ginny would come out whenever Maxine did, they ate together, they slept in cuddle cups together, Maxine chewed the white streak out of Ginny’s hair too :) I’ve had them for almost 6 years and Ginny passed away a couple weeks ago. I miss her very much, and I can tell Maxine does too. In the 5-6 years I’ve had her she’s never escaped from her cage (it’s probably like 5ft by 2ft? It’s wired and fleece) and I’m the past 2 days she’s busted out of the wire gap 3 times, it’s almost like she’s looking for her sister. It breaks my heart, but I guess it just goes to show how strong of a bond piggies can have (Also sorry this comment kind of turned into a rant, we miss our girl)
It’s funny how even when they’re trying their hardest to intimidate the other pig, they’re still as cute as ever. To a human observer it’s impossible to even tell they’re mad
KC’s Creations I think I’m in love. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 she’s so cuuuuuuuuuuuute , and I have five, and leia is prego, which only ads to her cuteness, so I see a lot of cute. 😂
I got a 3 week old little girl last year found her a little girl friend that was 8 weeks and she was 6 weeks by then. Ruby was very dominant right off the bat but they were fine in 2 hrs. But about a month later Ruby would get in brownies face and make her squeak. Went on for months took food out of her mouth while she was eating it. Intimidated her but now that they are 11months old Ruby is alot nicer and they will sleep together in the dome they are in a Midwest cage they love to do zoomies alot and play together finally
This was so interesting. I wish I’d seen this before I intro’d a new, younger female to my existing female pair. It was pretty traumatic (for me) but they now get along. Ursula had provided some tips to me via email. Shania is the cutest! 😀
Hi! Could you share those tips with me too? I'm having real issue with my guinea pigs (sisters) who used to get on really well until I introduced two new females and now the sisters absolutely hate each other and draw blood. Does this mean I have to separate them for ever? What do I do with the rest of the three who do get on? Help!
I've been really lucky, I have 12 females living together. We do have the occasional squabble but we've only had one physical injury that's resulted in a split lip. It happened overnight so we don't know who the 'aggressor' was as Squeak has been relaxed with every other girl in the enclosure and they've been chilled out with her. I also have three boys living together. But that is down to Buzz and Messy being so chill with a third friend. When its just the two of them they bicker. 🤷♂️🤷♂️
@Thora Friganza I dont know. Poor little Squeak's lip has been split right through. It isn't annoying her unless I mess about with it when cleaning. She's eating anything put in front of her and drinking regularly. I sought telephone advice from my cavy savy vet, looked through all my literature, and they all agree to keep it clean and unless its bothering her eating and drinking just to leave it as is. I do spend about an hour a day in the girls room and the boys room just hanging out and I haven't saw any negative interactions from anyone. The little girl I rescued her with has been giving her more kisses the last few days and snuggling with Squeak so I dont know if they've had a ding dong or if Pip is just looking out for her buddy.
@@oberscharfuhrer8917 pretty stupid comment of yours, do you really think they would get that many of them if not being able to pay vet bills? *rolls eyes*
Great video Saskia. It's much easier to bond females that's for sure. Us girls are not as high maintenance as the boys say we are. Lol. That squirrel was so funny. He sounded like a heart monitor! 🙂❤️
Saskia, thank you so much for still providing interesting and informative content, even during this crazy time. It keeps me entertained, and sane :) I hope that the rescue is doing well without the adoptions for now, but if you ever need help, this piggy community is here for you and your pigs! Thanks again for all you do! Love from Utah ❤️
Loved the video, tons of great information. I fall in love with every single piggie you introduce. My 2 girls really bonded from the start. My older girl ,around 1 year old was given to me and she was so lonely, hadn't been taken care of all that great etc. So after I got her back to 100 % I went to the pet store and they had one little girl just a few months old, I fell in love and brought her home, put her in the large C & C cage and it was instant bond.
We recently adopted two new girls from a local rescue to add to the two we already had and one of our existing girls is a "mean girl", we already knew she was the more dominant one but since we had them both since they were babies she had never really seen her trying to assert dominance before, oh my goodness was she a little terror! Exactly like Pepsi and the other girl that got into a little tussle, she was chasing everyone around, even her sister who she was ALREADY bonded to, pulling out hair, she would get up in the other girls faces and just stare at them then when they ran she would chase them, kicking the others out of houses, her sister actually got fed up with it at one point and they had a standoff with open mouths and posturing, it was bad, I had to distract them or I was almost certain they were going to really fight. Anyways, this went on for a full 24 hours, I got zero sleep, just stayed up watching them all, thankfully no blood was drawn but there were quite a few tufts of hair pulled out. All in all it took about a week until all the girls seemed to have relaxed, including our mean girl, that was a little over a month ago and watching them now you'd never know how crazy the intro was, they all get along great, there's no aggression whatsoever. The only reason I stuck it out and didn't separate them was because of this video, thanks Saskia!
Thanks for sharing your experience! It seems they had to establish a pecking order. Once established they got along. This is encouraging because not all of us have a lot of piggies we can swap out if they don’t immediately get along. 👍
We got one girl then about 3 weeks later a second (after we realized they need a friend). We had a couple hours of chasing and humping. We were new pig owners and kept separating them so it drug on. Now they are like peas in a pod. I had two hideys but they slept in the same one so we got a corner house and a rainbow arch thingy. They also love the Guinea Dad fleece liner with the pocket. I swear, it looks like we have an empty cage as they are always in the pocket.
Love this video Saskia! Love your commentaries throughout. It is very instructive. I feel like every introduction can go so different. When I got Melly and Punky it was like no biggy. Mel couldn't care less about Punky. When I introduced Luna, who was a month old at the time, Punky kept following baby an nose punchy her like you said. We figured out she was trying to teach the baby her place. Next day it was down to half. By the third day they were best buddies. Mel, on the other hand, would control Punky if she got too much on the baby by nose punchy Punky. It was very interesting to observe. Thanks again.
Wow! Thanks for the video! I have 3 female guinea pig and 1 live separated because she have a very aggressive behaviour with the other 2. Seeing the video i know its not my fault... she just have this personality, she lives alone but she looks very happy
I wish this video came out when I got my new baby female piggie for my other piggie, but hopefully You can help others who are struggling and I did struggle😇🙃😌
my older 5 year male, Ernie, got introduced to a 1 year old male, Eric, (after his brother Bert died) and it went so well, they’re getting along so well :)
My females guinea pigs did very bad during their introduction and I did everything properly, thankfully I kept trying and it took them 3 weeks to be used to each other and now they are the best friends ever. I was so worried but thankfully the all get along in their big cage
Omg, Shanya looks like a KISS band member! So cute! Had a mother and daughter, but for some reason the mommy did not like the daughter too much, sadly she passed due to a urinary infection that got out of hand, but now with my 3 boys its caotic at times...mainly the dad telling his kids who's boss...but nothing too crazy.😉
It cracks me up that when the food is taken away, like another commentor said, yes, they get so confused. But, it really makes me giggle when they start acting like one of the other piggies knows where the food went, it just won't tell the rest of the group. The piggies are so silly, or at least, my Milo is silly. I didn't plan on getting a piggy, but one was gifted to my niece and every time she picked him up the skin he would touch would break out in a Mass of blisters. I had to put down my dog that I had had for 14 years in March of 2020, I had said, "no more animals!" Well, then I held Milo for the first time July 15th, 2021, and I fell in love. I would not give up my Milo for anything! I am disabled and I live alone, he has been a tremendous source of love, joy, and fun. I know it is not good for him to live alone and I feel just awful about that, but I am just not sure he would do well with another piggy. The people who who gave him to my niece said he was about 2 years old. I know, being prey animals, they are naturally skittish, but he will run for cover if I move my hand to reach for the remote! I have held him almost daily for a year now, he is just as skittish as when I first got him. It makes me sad to admit that he has never really warmed up to me. He allows me to hold him, but he will not "play" with me or his toys. However, I hold him, talk to him, hand feed him some treats, and care for him (clip nails, clean yuck from his eyes, etc). I would not have thought you could bond with an animal like him, not snuggly and cuddly like dogs and cats , but I feel like I have, in fact, bonded with my little boar. It makes me smile to call my tiny little fur ball a boar. I love your videos and I always learn something new. Thank you for all you do on behalf of the piggies!
I really appreciate your videos. Thank you for everything you do. We found ourselves as Guinea Pig parents through unfortunate circumstances. I can't speak highly enough of what I've learned through Scotty's site and yours. I'm bonding female's for the first time tomorrow so our Guinea doesn't have to be alone. I really appreciate you showed both a match and the alternative! My fingers are crossed for tomorrow!
I just got 3 girls about 3 uears old for my girls. We love to watch videos here and with Scotty. Our girls love to snuggle up together and nap! It's the cutest thing to see them all squished in the corner of their big home! They will even drag the nesting bits all to one corner even if we put it in 3 different areas! It really makes my girls rethink how they interact with thier sister!😆
We have five, three males and two females, and leia is graces mom. They absolutely love each other, and have never been separated. They play with each other constantly and enjoy shoving each other playfully off of the second level in they’re cage! Leia tags grace, and grace tries to borrow into leias fur. They really are the perfect mom and daughter team!
You can still bond them. We just put mesh in the middle of 2 large cages for a week, and then they are best buds.this has been very successful, even with very aggressive females, who fought.
I have a partially mostly blind dominate piggie and she will not get along with my other dominate girl. Even when I did all the right things in their introductions. They were my first two piggies. Now I have 6! Lol! And I have them in two groups of two. Some piggies get along better than others. I hate when they only tolerate each other. The peace and bounds I was fortunate to get was so worth it to me! My livingroom has been taken over by guinea pig houses! But I love it so much!! I have a pair of rescued sisters and at first I wanted one herd and one partner for my special needs pig but I just knew the one sister would be such a good match for my special needs pig. I dont know how I knew. She was always just tolerated in the herd and even a bit picked on. When I separated the sisters and it became what I have now, two groups of 3 , the peace was almost physical feeling!! I'm absolutely so happy!! Anyways if you have a special needs pig, go the extra mile for them and get a good match! Mine would always get so stressed out and even broke out in ring worm once and lost weight as soon as I separated them she got 1000% better ( I also treated the ring worm ,thank you Saskia!)
I tell people the same thing. The other thing people do is like giving them a time out. They think if they seperated them for a few days and try again that the outcome will be different. NOd NO it will not change, they're either going to like each other or they wont, time out is for your 4 year old not your guinea pig.
I am adopting two more Guinea Pigs. One it’s a mother-daughter pair. I now have the confidence to possibly bond this pair with an older female that I have she’s five.
Such an insightful video! Definitely interested in a baby boy and adult male bonding video. I tried introducing a 4 week old baby boy to my 1 year old boy last year and my 1 year old was just mounting on the baby excessively and persistently to the point we felt so bad for the baby. Luckily, the baby got along really well with my other 1 year old boy and they've been living together since :)
Actually we once had a pair of very sweet Seniors when one unfortunately passed away and introduced a little 3 week old male baby to the 6,5 year old little man and they both got best friends from the first day. The little one had his own little house but often layed side by side and cuddling with the senior one and both really enjoyed their presence. I guess it was a good time for our last senior not being alone on his olden days till his peaceful death a few months later
I learn so much from you Videos. Thank you for telling us this. How else we would learn. At first I was thinking everything is just ok and at the end this fight. Oh my gosh!
Thank you so much for this. Learning a lot in your Videos. See you in a few minutes in your live Video for learning more about this little spirit Animals 🐾🐾🐹
Het is hier in Canada 3am en ik ben een Cavia video aan het kijken! Wie oh wie gaat de titel winnen? 🥇🥊 Spannend! Veel succes met je business Saskia...Ik vind je channel erg interessant. Vooral de cyst popping...😁God Bless you and the piggies....🙏🏼🍀♥️👋🏼🇨🇦
This is so strange haha. I'm used to seeing my Boys interact (They are permanently separated now due to aggression) Females don't really do the mounting thing which is so strange to see. Honestly I wish I had chosen girls at times over the boys as they seem to be a lot easier to handle but then again I just love my boys too much to think of regret. Thank you so much for showing us this it was VERY useful information. As always keep up the excellent work during these hard times.
I tried to introduce 2 more pigs to my current 2 and boy... They started to fight like nobody's business. On hind legs, teeth showing, attacking, teeth chattering. It was crazy!
My guinea pigs play together. Our original pair, one pushes the ball and the other follows her like follow the leader. Our other pair, they play hide n seek and tag. They're silly little girls. We lost 1 piggy this year and 1 last year. They were a bonded pair. We had to have 3 sets of 2 piggies because we had 2 very dominant girls. Now that we're down to 1 dominant and 3 submissive, we are going to add ramps to their cages and join them up. Then when 1 from each pair wants to play, they can play together instead of bothering their cagemate. 🤣
before i introduced my girls, they were in two different cages next to each other but when we introduced them, they did perfect together and are still together! they now have a luxurious space of 17.4+ square feet of floor space :D they were introduced in a larger room and they had tons of space to get away from each other if it didnt work x3
I’m new to watching your channel and my only experience with guinea pigs is taking home the class pet for a weekend so it’s quite interesting to me. I love how different in color and style they are, kinda like doggies (except they don’t have the size differences). And I adore all the names you e given them! Pepsi is particularly beautiful!
I was shipping badly for Pepsi and the first piggy, too bad it didn't happen TT The slowmotion was quite WOW, so fast !! And those babies at 14:17 are just too cute
Roxy is really cute. She has such a sleek coat of fur, a big contrast to the hairy/furry guinea pigs I’m used to seeing. She looks like a fat mouse and I love mice.
Saskia, you make me want a guinea pig! But with 3 dogs and 4 cats I do not think I could safely do that. I so admire your dedication to these lovely little animal babies. Maybe if I had more energy and a safe place for them. I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. I have asthma, but my pets do not bother me. After turning 70, I don’t feel a little more health issues. But I am enamored by these precious critters.
Uh oh! I saw the picture and both girl pigs had similar hair styles. Sometimes that can cause conflicts. Fortunately they were wearing different colored clothes.
Whenever my guinea pig Applejack (blacl and white american shorthair) would be like that with her sister (white abby) Snow White she would wheek but in a distressed way so I would go to the cage take Snow White out and hold her til she calmed down and I would tell Applejack to be nice and that they're sisters and Snow White would put her head on my chest 😂 she was a little drama queen
Just inherited a male from my husband daughter. Am nervous about finding him a buddy. None of the shelters around me have guinea pigs. So maybe by the time petco opens to be public they'll have a litter mate of his.
I had to go to petsmart because they're the only ones selling guinea pigs. And some only sell boys and some only sell girls. So call and ask petsmart what gender they have.
Terrific video. I have 3 females and they are mom and daughters and I often wonder if they are truly “getting along “ and have never seen the level of the first aggression; not once. They of course pee on one another and on occasion chatter and lunge and have even had the dominant daughter chirp and “sing” at night but never this level of scary passive aggressiveness. Thanks so much for the reassurance that mine are still okay together and aging so unless hormonal cysts get in the way, they are still doing well together 😘👏🏼👌🏼 + romaine is always the answer

It looks like ariana is protecting the younger Guinea pig from the others. So cute.
This is a great video! People are always talking and making videos about males bonding so it’s always great to watch females too
Wow that difference between bonding 2 girls and 2 boys😭
It’s crazy right😅 I love how in the first pair she was like “that was extreme for girls” and I’m like that’s normal for my boys 😅😐😒
Always the channel I go to for my questions. You do so well at explaining things
They are soo cute
Such an insightful video! Definitely interested in a baby boy and adult male bonding video. I tried introducing a 4 week old baby boy to my 1 year old boy last year and my 1 year old was just mounting on the baby excessively and persistently to the point we felt so bad for the baby. Luckily, the baby got along really well with my other 1 year old boy and they've been living together since :)
Yes the baby boys get pestered by the older piggie for some hours. I will do that video asap
Oh my gosh!
Thank you for posting. Didn't know about punching.
Hoi! Wat leuk je bent in Canada! Dankjewel voor het compliment. Heel lief! hugs Saskia
I love ginypigs
Ginypigs?🤔☺️😂
Sophia Reece 😂😂
Lol the second guinea pig has the same name as me. :)
Very informative and very cute! Thank you.
Thank you very much saskia
before i introduced my girls, they were in two different cages next to each other but when we introduced them, they did perfect together and are still together! they now have a luxurious space of 17.4+ square feet of floor space :D they were introduced in a larger room and they had tons of space to get away from each other if it didnt work x3
They are too adorable!
Roxy is really cute. She has such a sleek coat of fur, a big contrast to the hairy/furry guinea pigs I’m used to seeing. She looks like a fat mouse and I love mice.
I recently found your channel and now I am binge watching ALL the previous videos! This content really cheers me up amid Covid19. Thank you so much!
That should be I do feel a little more health issues!
Uh oh! I saw the picture and both girl pigs had similar hair styles. Sometimes that can cause conflicts. Fortunately they were wearing different colored clothes.
Just introduced a baby skinny to my two girls. The first 20 mins definitely gave me anxiety, but this vid made me feel so much better 😂
How is it going now? I just got a new baby and trying to introduce to my two girls too
Is the little black guinea pig , going to have baby’s
No she is just a big lady
Thank you for sharing love watching your show 🥰😎🥂
Whenever my guinea pig Applejack (blacl and white american shorthair) would be like that with her sister (white abby) Snow White she would wheek but in a distressed way so I would go to the cage take Snow White out and hold her til she calmed down and I would tell Applejack to be nice and that they're sisters and Snow White would put her head on my chest 😂 she was a little drama queen
They are very very cute:) I love it and thanks Saskia :)
I wear oven kits I keep for guinea pigs if I need to separate them
Just an idea
Thank you for these bonding vids! I plan on getting another piggy once this virus calms down and with every video I seem to learn something new!
great video
Terrific video. I have 3 females and they are mom and daughters and I often wonder if they are truly “getting along “ and have never seen the level of the first aggression; not once. They of course pee on one another and on occasion chatter and lunge and have even had the dominant daughter chirp and “sing” at night but never this level of scary passive aggressiveness. Thanks so much for the reassurance that mine are still okay together and aging so unless hormonal cysts get in the way, they are still doing well together 😘👏🏼👌🏼 + romaine is always the answer
Hello saskia I love what you do in the rescue and I want to help. I saw you are doing raffles but I cannot Pat with Paypal. Is there another way I can help but using my debit card? Stay safe and keep doing what you do
hi Cristina - you should be able to pay with your card through Paypal. Have another look and thank you!!
