This gave me the confidence to change mine yesterday. I did it no problem without having to remove the battery housing. Just removing the battery wiring from the positive gave me enough space to remove and replace the coolant expansion tank. Great video thank you
Thank you for taking the time to comment. I had recently changed the starter motor. I had also done a major service which I show exactly where everything is. I also watch videos and you never really know where things are. Thank you if you liked and subscribed, my channel is fairly new so it helps.
I did like and subscribe and you're welcome. Having spent the morning doing this job I found that I didn't have to remove the battery tray, but I have a different model (petrol SRi) so there may have been a little more wiggle room. It certainly helped for clearer camera angles though!@@serenitycoastUK
Thanks, hopefully it helps. I do have a car play list with lots of different jobs, such as changing the coolant. Breaks all sorts that comes with maintaining a 15 year old car.
Thank you for an excellent video. I had to change the tank on my wife’s 66 plate Insignia this morning (prior to finding your video). Her one doesn’t have the sensor on the bottom, so it’s possible to change it without removing the battery and the box. If the tank on my 11 plate ever goes, I’ll be referencing back to this for sure, as that has the sensor on it. Thanks again. 😊
Awesome you might be interested in my insignia playlist I did a full service not so long ago and I just done my brakes and documented the process of doing those. Thank you for your comment! Your welcome, I enjoy reading this type of message it's really motivating to make more content. I'll be changing the breaks in a couple of weeks along with cleaning the throttle valve, EGR down pipe. I recently went on a trip to the Welsh coast. 3 adults wheel chair and bags. I had a bit of a lack of power. So I'll be giving it a good clean. Thank you for liking and subscribing :-) have a great day.
@@serenitycoastUK took me 2 hrs to change this all. I have 2.0t petrol and there is a little bit different connections and cable length so I got more work with disable them :P but I'm looking now and it work greate
Your welcome, I have other insignia videos on the playlist on jobs I've done. These have been servicing the car changing the fluids, recently break change. I've tried to film things in a way that hopefully can help others. Thank you if you liked the video and taking the time to comment. Not everyone does and it's nice to know that the videos have helped others.
Brilliantly done ✅ Thanks for sharing.👌👌💯💯 Is this normal in insignia to keep lowering the coolant ? I mean i have to refil it once in every week or two ?
Maybe you have a leak somewhere in the system. I recently had a leak so used radweld which fixed it. If you have never used it before then I made a short about a week ago on how to use it. Thank you for liking the video and subscribing if you did. Have a great day.
The coolant tanks in these do tend to crack over time, and cause the exact slow leak you’re describing. Might be worth having a feel around the bottom of the tank. Chances are it’ll be leaking from there.
Personally I would NOT buy the cheapest expansion tank you can find! I bought one on Amazon for £35 and the plastic welding around the top started to leak after 5 months! I replaced it with one from Euro Parts for £45. Also I didn’t have to remove the whole battery just the battery cover!

Your Welcome, I try and explain what I have done as easily as possible. Thank you if you liked the video
This is exactly the video I needed, clear camera angles and on-point instructions. Good lad.

Just out of interest could this be done without any ramps/jacks? Specifically draining the old coolant? Maybe by using a hose or something?
Yes it can be done in the floor. You can reach the drain hose fairly easy by hand.
Yes you can just clamp the hoses no need replace the whole coolant;)
Buy hose clamps
Brilliantly done ✅
