The metal washers with the internal viton seal are called Dowty seals. They basically need hardly any torque to seal but they do need perfectly smooth sealing surfaces.
Devin i’ve been watching your channel for a while and you’re an awesome car restoration guy I to myself have a 2005 Subaru STI and a 2006 evolution nine that I desperately need your help on and I got screwed over really bad at Performance Shop and I have these two gems that I need to save and you’re the only guy that I think can help me besides me working on my own stuff. if I explain to you in detail what happened to me this really deserves to be shown to the public and to be careful of other performing shops.

A comment/warning on starting the engine without coolant and with a new water pump. The seals on a water pump are lubricated by the coolant and even a minute of running a new pump dry with kill the seal. I learnt this the hard way. At least on your engine water pumps are easy to change - I wreck a water pump on a timing belt driven pump 😢

On evo lump ive always put w drill on oil pump with cambelt off primmed system untill it comes out of turbo feed then put belt back on, ive heard horror stories,
No idea what machine shop your using but it's time to find a new one, they can't install plugs into a head they refurbished, they can't clean oil passages out causing massive damage to internals, 99% of the aggravation on this build comes from poor workmanship from the machine shop.
If this sold at auction. Barrett Jackson or Mecum. What do you think it would sell for chat? Considering it's a complete full blown resto-mod. It's gotta be worth a shit ton of money right?
U legitimately just went throw everything that happen to me (sorta) I built my motor new everything rod locked up 400miles(granny driven) machine shop claims the new oil pump went bad then built it again new crank, rods,bearings, oil pump all new gaskets got it together had that exact same plug out on the head that we missed got that leak u have and got it together again then got her home drove 40 miles on the first drive just fine and then my trans axels leaked due to not being oem. Is all I can think cause so far it’s been good

Racing oil is for race cars, it doesn't have anti-oxidants and things that let non-race car oils last 3k mile OCIs.
