Yes yal do and did. It's so good to read up on history. Black women were used as guninie pigs to withstand practice surgeries by white doctors in the slavery days without Anastasia. They had to withstand all that pain. I can only imagine . 😢.
Many people praise this scene in other blogs & comments, now I know why! However the original was truly spell-binding, commanding, powerful and magical.
I agree. Ppl acting like the original didn’t exist kinda, like I still can’t watch that movie w/o feeling every emotion. They did their thing in this version tho, respect.
Everybody played their part but damn it if Danielle Brooks didn’t play the shit out of this scene right here. Not that she didn’t do extremely well in other parts but this part right here is iconic.
No matter HOW many times I watch this (I've seen it in the theaters three times) my FAVORITE part of that scene is when she says, "Oh yeah, Sofia boooorrrnnn to take care uh dis!" I LOVED the SPIRIT in that single line.
I started laughing at the same time Sofia did. It was heartwarming to see her come back to her old self. I absolutely loved this scene more than most-- of when Celie finally stood up for herself and Sophie returning to her old self again. The reason why is because I love seeing the wicked get their comeuppance. My next favorite is when the sisters reunite after years of being apart. That was also very heartwarming.
Tears of joy that is, cuz Sofia realizes how lucky and fortunate she was to have Celie in her life when hardly anyone else was when she was incarcerated
I just may go back and rewatch the movie. I couldn't get past the beginning with all that singing. Stopped 9 minutes in. But this scene has my attention now.❤
My favorite part of the movie! I saw this movie twice and started crying during this time when Celie started to stand up for herself. It was so beautiful to see her take her life back! 🥹🥹🥹
FACTS! I believe this movie was overly hyped and they used big names. But when we align it with the quality of the original this movie honestly wasn’t that great. Some actors did their thing but this movie disappointed.
@@Lux_82 The actors are all great actors but the emotions of the original missed and the rewrite was all wrong. In the original you believed the story, felt the pain, got angry and rejoiced in the triumphs.
@@GLITTERandSKULLZfirst of all this is not a remake. This is a movie based on the musical on Broadway which is exactly written like the book. Secondly there was nothing “disappointing” about this movie. You people expectations get too high and start bashing things bc it’s not EXACTLY like the first movie.
@@Lux_82that’s not true. This movie didn’t even mention a lot of the big names until we seen it for our selves. So idk wtf you seen….what movie did you watch bc this movie was very good.
Ahhhhhh, I just don't know. I loved the original sooooo much it's hard to warm up to this the way I want to. I prefer Whoopi's Celie, for sure. Which is sad cause I loved Fantasia and even power voted for her on Idol. But with this, I'm struggling.
You must never saw the Broadway version. People still talk about Fantasia's performance as Celie on Broadway. Her performance received rave reviews. The film version of the musical was good but could have been better. The director Blitz made too many changes. He should have stayed true to the Broadway version. This film shouldn't be compared to the 1985 adaptation. There was the 1985 adaptation and there was the Broadway musical. The musical was more accurate and closer to the book than the first adaptation. The book will always be superior. I prefers the book than the 1985 adaptation. After the book, it's the musical.
Well this is based on the play and the book, so you comparing it to the 1980s movie (which was quite different from the book) makes absolutely no sense.
I love Fantasia (Celie). Mister, or should I say Abert, is a no-good heartbreaker. He is also a liar and a cheat. And Mister, Fantasia(Celie) don't want you no more.
The problem is this dinner scene was rushed and the character's dialogue and reactions was rushed. The reason the original movie scene played out so very good was because it was paced with timing of emotion that was believable. Each actor and character moments was on point. It made the whole scene 'felt'. This felt like an ATTEMPT to reenact that moment, but I'm sorry, they didn't come close and whatever version this is, it was very far from the emotional drama the original gave. However, Colman and Brooks are stellar. I can listen to Colman talk all day long. That voice is amazing. They did what they could in this scene but the director should not have rushed this or twist it in such a way.
How in the HELL!!!! How in the HELL.....is this better than the Original????? EVERYTHING doesn't have to be re-made!!! Somethings deserve to be LEFT ALONE/LEFT AS IS. 🤦🏾♂️
Danielle Brooks received an Academy Award nomination for her performance in this scene. However, I believe that this film should not be produced. I would prefer to watch Fantasia on the big screen. I have great respect for Taraji and the cast, but in all honesty, this film should not be made.
