Have to agree with everyone else here. While it would make for some nice flavor text and possibly alternative cutscenes, it wouldn’t really change the outcome of the storyline. Only thing that I think could really be changed is the initial fight with Thor and the fake death screen; like have it be near impossible to complete the button mashing segment but if you succeed then Kratos can end the fight early by letting out the old Kratos early.
You gotta remember something: Thor is more akin to a berserker whereas Kratos was an actual general leading an entire army. Even though Kratos took over Ares' position on Olympus, he's still capable of using strategy when it comes to combat

Without any knowledge myself i speculate that, Perhaps some form of trickery or magic reversed this logic, or perhaps Garm is a kind of construct bound to Hel therefore unkillable. To what end that's a mystery to me. Or maybe Garm was once a living being like any other and grew powerful with time, perhaps he was cursed even, otherwise your guess is as good as mine.

So, he let Garm chew his arm and sneaked him into helheim and installed chains on him. When Garm realised Tyr trapped him, he chew off Tyr's arm. Tyr being an Aesir like Heimdall grew his arm eventually. Tyr being a God of War didn't try to fight Garm. It could be possible that Garm was born without a soul or might be a unique creature born of the primordial forces of Norse realm

So i wouldn't look at GoWR as a retelling of Norse mythology, it is its own story with its own twists and interpretations.

I think realistically this would be the way Kratos would fight. He has far too much experience and skill I think only Thor, Odin (more Odin) can be somewhat of a threat to him. While heimdal would just be a bitch to catch as shown with his fighting style. It also makes sense how Thor’s ego gets bruised to an extent because of how much Kratos holds back.

Kratos trying to comfort Sindri was new, but I love the touch where you can see Sindri definitely wanted to say something, but considering he’s talking to Kratos, that’s probably why he did a double step back and walked away in silence. Even though, I can see Kratos letting him take his anger on him.

And that is definitely true. Everyone has that natural instinct of fucking around until they find out, and Heimdall is no exception. He fucked around, he found out, and he found out WHY Kratos became so feared. Heimdall’s also the definition of “pick on someone your own size,” because he was clearly too underleveled for the Ghost of Sparta.
One thing that I realized from playing the game and watching this is that most attacks can be evaded by just tapping X one time. The double tap roll is usually unnecessary and time costly
That’s actually the same with The Witcher 3’s evade mechanic, tbh. If you roll, it takes too much time & there are too many frames of animation, but if you quickstep, you can basically just avoid a majority of attacks with minimal casualties. It’s a concept I enjoy, if I’m being honest.

Freya really has no idea how lucky she is that Kratos never went all-out on her with intent to kill. Every time they fight, she is trying her hardest to kill him, and he is very clearly holding back. He wants to defend and repel, not eliminate. She got to see what he's really capable of, during the war in Asgard. Even *then* he was holding back, but he defeated Heimdall, defeated Thor, and defeated Odin. (obviously Heimdall wasn't in Asgard but she did leave and came back to a dead Heimdall)
Freya is the only one who would rival Kratos in power and combat, at the end of her slash, the Vanir goddess was not about to die, she was colliding her blade firmly and strongly with the Leviathan axe. Freya at her peak entered a stalemate in the only real fight between Kratos and Atreus, in her fight as Queen Valkyrie, she forced Kratos to transform his Spartan Fury into healing and even with the help of Atreus, this fight ended in a draw. Remembering that Kratos single-handedly defeated Heimdall, and then Thor. In terms of combat, Freya is powerful enough to force a stalemate with Kratos.
