  • Today I have a video taking a look at my brand new Spellbinders Platinum machine. I have been die-ing (did you see what I did there lol!) for this to come out and praying it does do what they say - watch the video to see whether I am a 'happy bunny' or not :-)****MORE*****

    Thank you! I just got the spellbinders platinum, and your video was better then the manufacture. I am new to die cutting so this was very helpfful

      Ahh thank you glad it helped. Do make sure you check out my video on how to stop plates warping. All plates in die machines eventually bend (warp) but platinum is particularly sceptical as it is a strong machine. This video shows a simple tip to help slow that down and you can see the date of this video and because of that tip I still have the same plates which is rare as you do sometimes need to replace them due to the bend. You can die cut with them looking pretty bad but eventually that bend will have them crack. Anyway check it out and you can imagine how much I use mine so I can definitely say it works. If you ever need any help please ask always happy to answer any questions.best way is to go to my website and ask via the form :-)

    The video was very informative...I really like the way you demonstrated the machine...It really took a lot of quessing out of how it really work and what do work with the machine...I can't wait to get me one and especially when the motor comes out.But I do think I will wait until my B-Day next summer. I'm happy that you shared some gr8 tips and you are very pleased with the machine. Thanks for sharing.

    I just got my Platinum today - very stiff to turn, after breaking GC handle I'm being a bit cautious. Like you I have seen on TV demonstrators using the GC plates and they seem to go thru like a dream - I have had a go but not a lot of success, one of the reasons I bought it was because I thought I could use those, however with a bit more practice we'll see. Great video, Thanks' Cathie

    • @lollilulucrafts
      @lollilulucrafts  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Cathie Craft I found that although the GC plates went through easier they also then cut the same way as the GC - not very thoroughly! What I do is slightly turn the die so the die comes to the rollers not as a flat head on shape, It is very hard to explain in writing but if you go to my sue wilson get well card video you will see me show you in that how I just angle the die slightly so that the die doesnt come to the roller all in one go but a little at a time. I find that completely stops all the stiffness and you then get the benefit of the platinum which is its superior cutting. Here is the link to that video, th-cam.com/video/yZrC1POBAQ0/w-d-xo.html and go to 9 mins 21 secs into the video and that is where I show what I am very badly trying to explain here :-)

      A tip I learned is to angle your dies slightly . Especially dies with straight sides. The cutting improvement is amazing, no clunking

    I have had the blue Big Shot machine for about 8-10 years now. I still works very well, but I wanted one of the larger machines to use US letter size embossing folders. Also I have a lot of Anna Griffin dies and embossing folders and for some reason those folders actually cut the paper when embossing making the paper look rather torn and raggedy. It seemed it was only that brand that I had that problem with, but since I have so many I was hoping to get a machine that solves that problem. So I decided to buy a Crossover Machine by Tattered Lace. It was a little more pricey than the others, but several things swayed me to that machine such as it has a dial that you can use to move the rollers closer together or farther apart. That means I can lower the pressure on the Anna Griffin folders and maybe they won't shred the paper. It was on sale for $20 off, free shipping and on 4 flexi-pays. Plus I found a coupon for $20 more off for first time CNC customers, so I thought it was calling my name. This Platinum machine was the runner up and if the Crossover machine doesn't work maybe I'll try a Platinum - Thanks for sharing...

    Thank you for the review...I will be receiving mine soon...I will confess, I do have the new Sizzix Big Shot Plus(same opening as the platinum)...but wanted something else I could take with me to crops/classes that was alittle more compacted...I love my sizzix, I just wish they wuld have made it alittle more compat...Keep up the great video's, looking forward to more...

      What is the cut like on the Sizzix Plus? as good as the regular sizzix big shot? I have been thinking of adding it to the family lol! Just to warn you though, that although the platinum folds up it is pretty heavy but they do now do covers and bags for it which are pretty cool :-)

      lol sorry - but glad the video was helpful, there is another one that shows you how to keep your plates from warping. I mean all plates will eventually but platinum because of the extra strength it has can do so faster so I have done a tip video on that. I have had mine well since this video date and they are only just starting to bend a little now so it does make a big difference. Just hop to my website, link should be below the video and go into ... actually forget that here is the link for you lol so much easier :-) www.lollilulucrafts.co.uk/2016/02/spellbinders-platinum-how-to-stop-plates-warping/

    Thank you for letting us see your "new toy" in action. It looks impressive, but a considered purchase for those of us who don't do very much card making x

    • @lollilulucrafts
      @lollilulucrafts  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Audrey Shaw definitely a considered purchase if you do not do a lot of die cutting, in that case maybe a cuttlebug or big shot would be a good alternate option. I love both of those machines. But this one was great for me too as I have a lot of larger dies and the grand calibur, the large die cutting machine I had, just was not up to it. I cannot be bothered faffing around trying to find the sweet spot on the plates esp when I actually need it all to work cos I am cutting a large die, I have to say I was a little nervous how the Platinum would fair but it was, so far, fantastic as you saw it cut beautifully. really pleased, glad you enjoyed watching and thank you for always commenting it means a lot to me :-)

      +Lolli Lulu Crafts thank you for taking the time to review the Platinum. I would like to clarify a few things about the machine. Motor - A motor for the Platinum is under consideration for possible future launch. We don't have any firm dates for if and when this will happen. Large Plates - Spellbinders is now including Large Plates as part of a Platinum Machine
      The machine can be purchased on our web site at www.spellbinderspaperarts.com/product/platinum-die-cutting-and-embossing-machine
      Grand Calibur Plates - Grand Calibur Plates are not compatible with our Platinum Machine.
      Please reference our Platinum Machine instruction manual for proper plate usage.
      Thank you again! We appreciate your support! -Kendra

      +Spellbinders Creative Arts Thank you so much for the clarification. However I got the information about the motor date, Grand calibur plate usage from the shows on Hochanda TV during the launch of the Platinum here in the UK. This information was repeated in every show and the lady doing the demonstrations gave me to think that she was your representative and as such I therefore thought that the information being given was correct. Her name was Julia from Inky Fingers and Sue Wilson herself. I do however appreciate the clarification. Lastly with regard to the large plates being sold with the machine now, although I have now noticed this on your site, this has not yet filtered through to any of the UK sellers. Therefore at the moment, as far as I am aware, it is only possible to get the machine here with the regular plates. I imagine that will change in time as they sell out of the previous stock they had. Thank you again for the information and I hope other than that you found the video a positive one for you :-)

      +Audrey Shaw I'm not sure how I missed your comment before. The Platinum machine allows you to do much more than cardmaking. You can cut metal, leather, fabric and many other materials. If you visit our website at www.spellbinderspaperarts.com/platinum, this will give you additional ideas for ways to use the machine. We hope to change your mind at some point in the future. Happy Crafting!

    Impressive indeed! I think it's fun to watch the way Spellbinders and Sizzix are now competing, what with Spellbinders stepping into the steel rule arena, and Sizzix making its wafer thin dies more intricate (though they still haven't come close to matching the intricacy of Spellbinders' most intricate dies). Most of my dies are Sizzix steel rule dies, and my machine is the Big Shot Plus, but I'm really keen on some of the steel rule made samples Spellbinders displayed in its most recent CHA booth. I'm hoping I'll be able to use them in my BSP, because I'm not about to purchase yet another die cutting machine, no matter who makes it! The Platinum is a much prettier machine than the Grand Caliber, which quite frankly, was butt ugly IMO, and didn't look particularly well made, or well thought-out. I still have a slight quibble with the way some of the Platinums retain a squeak in the cranking motion (I suppose it's just me, but I find the sound more than a bit off-putting). That's one thing I've never heard when using my Big Shot machines. The Platinum, however, looks to exert more pressure across the width of the rollers than the Big Shot Plus, which is definitely good. I look forward to more Spellbinders innovations, and applaud them for the way they've stepped up their game.

    • @lollilulucrafts
      @lollilulucrafts  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Vgudorf I think the spellbinders 'bigz' equivalents will fit in the big shot since the sizzix bigz go through the platinum in the same sandwich as the the spellbinders 'bigz' do which suggests that they are the same height / depth. I haven't heard a squeak on my platinum when cranking it through and yes the pressure is immense all the way across I just hope that it continues over time and doesnt loosen, I will keep doing updates. I love my big shot and disliked the GC completely it just didn't work frankly. The only reason I got it was at the time it was pretty much the only one that was that size and I tend to work big so like that bigger size plate. Hence why I upgraded (and I def think it was an upgrade) to the platinum. hugs x

    really enjoyed this video. l have the sizzix 6inch and was thinking of getting the smaller version of the platinum , as haven't the space or funds for the bigger one. be interested to see more demos as would like to see how it cuts crafters companion and tonic dies and embossing folders had loads of which aren't spellbinders. I have used all of those on this and it cuts everything fine. But personally I use my sizzix big shot first of choice and only use the platinum when I need to use large dies and embossing folders. I hope that helps :-)

      June M hi hun, not sure what I said that your answering here as video is so old for me now. Hi and Thank you for this informative video. Do you recommend this machine as my 1st purchase? Looking forward to viewing all your videos!!

    • @lollilulucrafts
      @lollilulucrafts  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Luz Jimenez HI Thank you for the compliments and to answer your question I think it really depends on how much you think you will do in the way of die cutting and embossing? and secondly if that diecutting and embossing that you want to do includes the bigger dies and embossing folders. If the answer to the first question is not much or don't know then you might want to start with something a little less expensive and see whether you like it. Something like a cuttlebug or sizzix big shot is a good one to start with if your not sure. And if you do like it a lot of people have a cuttlebug and something bigger like the platinum. However if the answer to the first question is that you are going to do a lot then go to the second question and if you think you won't use the larger dies or embossing folders much then go back to something like the cuttlebug or sizzix big shot. If you want the larger dies and you will use it a lot then bottom line is in my opinion that the platinum is the best machine for that. I hope that helps and I'm sorry it is so long but I don't want you to spend more than you have to. And as a final thing don't get the grand calibur that is what the platinum users are moving up from cos it doesn't cut so good :-)

    You are only showing this with Spellbinder thin die cuts. Can it be used with others too? I am looking for a new machine because my Sizzix Big. Kick broke. And someone recommended this Spellbinders. I don't have any Spellbinder dies. None of them interest me.

    • @lollilulucrafts
      @lollilulucrafts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      June M sorry hun for not answering sooner but didn’t get the notifications. Anyway I use all my thin dies whatever brand in here and have had no issue at all. To be honest most of the time I find it is hype if they say you can only use their brand in a machine. As Longford as the dies are the same thickness as the machines brands dies (which most of them will be as it is a standard thickness on the thin dies on the whole) then you will be fine. Hope that helps and again sorry for the delay in replying xx

    Amanda now that you have had the machine for almost a month (well 3 wks) have you had ANY problems or any concerns about this machine. I am disabled and live on a very small ck, so things like this are expensive for me and I need to them to work. No one likes to have a machine that isn't decent. My son bought me the Grand Calibur last summer because I needed it for the large dies, and I am not so happy..How large of dies does this take? Meaning the new Spellbinder biggest dies (sorry don't know what they are called) and the LARGE embossing folders...Thank you so very much..Merry Christmas, Victoria

    • @lollilulucrafts
      @lollilulucrafts  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Victoria Ciolek it will take anything your GC will take but unlike the GC it will actually cut it. So far I have been so pleased with its cutting. I have tried a number of different makes of dies and have found all cut beautifully using the same sandwiches as i used for the spellbinders dies that I did in this video. And to test it I always put the dies right in the middle which is always the toughest spot and I am so so very pleased. Like you I am not impressed with the GC as you would have heard in the video but this I am pleased with and the sizing is great too. I have used my big tattered lace dies, sue wilson dies and embossing folders, the bigz dies and all work great. Hope that helps but please if you want more info do feel free to go on my web and go to the message me page and you can contact me privately if you prefer and I am always happy to help :-)

      Victoria Ciolek Ahh wish you better sweet and glad you found my web cos a few people dont realise to go on there and Im still working on it to get it all right. For e.g. over the christmas break I was working on my video library. still more to do but at least the basics are how I want it now. I got all behind cos of mums illness, but decided to go ahead with my launch anyway but then I was just getting ahead with posts and ready to work on the web and sadly she got ill again. So far she is all good but lots of check ups but of course the posts and videos are really full time job so it is hard to get ahead to find to get the shop, video library, photos etc all sorted. Point of this long story is keep watching cos I am catching up slowly so you will see things change and get completed. Plus of course on the blog itself it has the extra post to that on youtube. Anyway enough yapping by me, dont want to bore you lol! hugs and wish you well xx

    Can you use the caliber raspberry plates on this machine.

    • @lollilulucrafts
      @lollilulucrafts  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sue wilson did use those - she used to in her shows use them all the time, however I spoke to her about a message I had from spellbinders so she stopped doing that on air, but I assume she would still use them privately. Spellbinders you see contacted me to say that if you did that then the warranty becomes invalid. I can't see how it could cause any issue as the plates are not as thick as the ones that come with the Platinum so it boggles my mind that they take that stance but anyway, Officially I have to tell you that about the warranty but I give you the other info so you can make your own choices. I have used them and many others did too - even as I say on the craft channels and videos, until I passed on that info. So strikes me this is about commerce not whether it works. but I have to say myself despite that you do so at your own risk, hope that helps a bit, xx

    Hi I'm looking to learn more about die cutters. I'm a total beginner. I want to be able to cut a. Lot of one pattern. Do they cut multiple sheets of paper at once X cheers X scentpotjen.

    • @lollilulucrafts
      @lollilulucrafts  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes because you can use the big steel rule dies like the sizzix Bigz dies, although other companies inc spellbinders (who make this machine) now do their own versions of those deep dies. These dies are steel rule dies and will cut multiple layers of card, fabrics, felts and much more. Another machine that is good for this is the sizziz big shot and the big shot plus. I have a video on my big shot if you go to my you tube channel page and search big shot it will come up. That was a limited edition colour so it is now in a white and grey but the principles are the same. Hope that helps :-)

      Marla H. oh like the border dies etc I will google a pic of them just to be sure and then I will have a play and come back to you. If i dont come back to you, message me again I have a brain of knat for memory! lol!xx

    • @lollilulucrafts
      @lollilulucrafts  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Marla H. ok I have done it straightaway or I knew my brain would be going 'now what was it I was meant to do?!?" lol! Anyway had a play with a fairly lacy butterfly sizzlet and tried quite a few sandwiches inc using the GC plates and no luck. I then took a leaf out of the cuttlebugs sandwiching and used my tan mat and it worked great. One pass and every part of the butterfly cut. So starting from the bottom going up it is: platinum base plate: tan mat (either the platinum or GC one): Sizzlet cut side up: card: (I used american crafts card just to give you an idea of the thickness): then one clear Platinum cutting plate, And through you go. The tan mat acts like a shim and being flexible it will squash to the right depth for the die. Hope that helps. Let me know how you get on :-)

    please help. the die cut has to be with the ridge facing up and the smooth side facing down?

    • @lollilulucrafts
      @lollilulucrafts  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it doesnt matter which way it is - all you need to be sure is that the ridge side (the side that does the cutting) is facing into the paper. With the Platinum you have two clear cutting plates, which go each side of your die, both are cutting plates - i.e. plates that are designed to be cut into. So as this machine has two of those which go each side of the die it doesnt matter which way up the die is because either way it will cut into a cutting plate. So this is your 'sandwich' - Big fat white plate (Base plate), Clear plate, die cut side up for e.g., the paper (right side always facing the die because the die sometimes has a slight emboss so you want that where it shows on the paper), Clear cutting plate and pop it through the machine. However you could switch it around so it is Base, Clear Cutting plate, paper, die cut side down, clear plate. Does that help? The reason you may have thought it mattered is in some die cutting machines there is only one cutting plate so then it does matter a bit more, but with this no worries nice and simple really. I hope that has helped but if not message me again, its fine :-)

      Lolli Lulu Crafts greeting from Singapore sub. thank you for your kind informative reply.
      I do have one more question.
      how to use and with what the blue and tan plat.
      I am afraid the dies i use will cut the tan mate .
      I would love to emboss only Shap without cuting it.
      what type of dies just emboss and not cut?
      very long.
      but I couldn't find answers to my question anywhere.
      in Singapore no one could guide me. the shop here only sale the platinum 6.
      thank you for your kind help.
      happy 2017.

      The blue and tan mat and what use for embossing your dies. And for embossing folders you will find all the info on the sandwiches to use on spell infers website -- very easy to find 😀

      Not that I have seen, spellbinders did say that it is not going to be an adaptor but that was not what I had understood initially so who actually knows lol!

    Just bought the machine last week...purchased the 3D embossing plate separately, but when I got it and tried it...does not work. I guess if I forced it through the machine it might, but I'm not of a mind to do that. Any suggestions? Thanks. I bought the machine and separate embossing plate mid-November 2017.

      The 3D embossing plate is not the same sandwich as a regular embossing plate, did you change it? It should be
      Platform
      Em-bossing Fold’er with paper inside
      Grey 3D Embossing Plate
      Check out this link it might help for any other sandwiches you might have, make sure you look at the platinum column (unlike myself to start wth lol) www.spellbinderspaperarts.com/embossing-compatibility/
      If you are already doing this and it is not working please come back to me again and we will try and sort it out x

    Hello Lolli lulu Crafts how are you? is it hard turn?

    • @lollilulucrafts
      @lollilulucrafts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes it is very difficult to turn the handle. If you have dexterity issues not the one for you. It is good in that of course this means the pressure is really good so cuts all the detailed dies really well though xx

      All spellbinders platinum die cutting machines DO use embossing folders :) if yours isn't working it means that you're using the wrong plates or configurations xxxxx

    you can not see half of what you're doing !!!! What a shame !!!

    • @lollilulucrafts
      @lollilulucrafts  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im sorry but I have re-watched this and cannot see what part, let alone what half, you could want to see that you can't ? You can see everything except the very edges of the fold down sides because I went in closer to give you all a better view. But I made sure I didn't go so close you missed me putting plates through the machine. In fact you see it better because I went in close. So sorry would love to know what it is you feel you missed as this one has me stumped!? Thanks for watching :-)

      Sorry, I didn't mean to sound bitchy or ungrateful. Was Just curious about how you put all the plates together and if you changed plates (from cutting to embossing) how you would do that and if you would have to move the paper and die (for exemple)..was Just curious I always want to see everything someone does ...but never mind me, dear... was happy with your review, thx 4 that!!

    • @lollilulucrafts

      Pebblesmas Oh dear I think we are both misunderstanding each other. I really just couldn't figure it out and what was missing as it seemed to me I showed you most of it and as I could not work it out I wanted to know so I can be sure I improve or get what people want to see. I guess my tone didnt come across as intended, it was meant to be gently teasing so sorry if you thought I was offended I wasn't just british irony lol! I think if you go throughout again you will see the things you mentioned, I never changed anything when it went out of view it was literately just being popped in the gap to wind through, in fact I think if you look you will see its position when it goes through and also some not all, of the time I pop it on top of the machine to construct the sandwich and to undo it. SO hopefully you are reassured that you really didnt miss anything. Sorry for the misunderstanding, I must be more careful about how I write as it doesn't always sound the same in writing as in my head. Usually Im more careful but I happened to see this early and probably wasn't awake enough to check what I had written Apologies, and do go look at the other platinum videos I have done and that might show you a bit more, Amanda :-)
