    Thank you for the link to the magnetic sheets and primer to paper piecing. I keep wanting to do that, but not sure how. Nice and simple. ❤

    Thank you so much for showing us paper piecing dies. I am more of a beginner myself and my projects never look like others on you tube. I think a lot of crafters have been doing it so long there is an assumption that we all know the basics but, at least in my case, that is not the case. I really appreciate your taking the time to show us newbies the ropes.

    Fun video to watch. Enjoyed even though I do have the larger Platinum 8.5 same rules for plates. Now when you have an embossing folder that won't press in as well as you want add a cardstock shim or two even. Cereal boxes the flat larger sides many of us save for this very purpose. I go through a Post Brand shredded wheat box every week for the fiber. Oh wait and Cardboard FIBER too. I ended up with saving so many I had a stack of over 40. So quit. But I also save smaller thin boxes that some items arrive in and you throw away too. NOT the thick corrugated cardboard it's thinner material that is often printed on. Ok great shims. And another hint but I do not always follow is to spritz your paper lightly and put into the folder and run through Once bring back through towards you and run again making it three times through before peeking into the folder to see how well it embossed. And so Tim Holtz rule of thumb is 3 times through for embossing period or always. And he spritzes too using small very fine spritz bottles that Amazon and some other sellers including I bet Micheals sells on the cheap too. One light spritz is probably enough most times. By now it's two years plus later and you are an expert at this. But incase others are wondering how to get better results these three hints, cardboard shim or two or cardstock, three times through and finally spritz or not to spritz. (If you colored your paper or water colored you may not want to for example. I often use pastel chalks myself so spritzing is not my choice and I get good results from the shim and three through rule.

    Eeeks so much work! I just use white card stock and color with markers, colored pencils or water color... just don’t use a ton of water with your paints. TFS

    Different makes of embossing folders need different sandwiches. For really thin ones you need to add a shim

    I wish I'd found this video BEFORE I started mucking around with my new die cutter--made some beginner mistakes--but somehow managed to avoid breaking the machine. I love this video. Thanks for the great tips!

    I hope you've worked out your embossing folder problem....add more thickness by putting card stock or paper into the sandwich. Just enough to make up the thickness between the Sizzix, and the ones that work for you. Great review. You're very thorough. Thanks.

      So, will 3-D folders work in this machine then?

    • @Kammitoes
      @Kammitoes 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@barbarabisson2551 The quick answer to this is that every die cutting machine will handle 3D folders. Just use the base plate, then load up your 3D Embossing Folder with cardstock loaded in, then the top plate you usually use when die cutting. If you find the embossing is too deep and breaks the card, load it up again and this time spray the card with a fine spray of water. If you find the impression isn't deep enough, put a layer of cardstock under the embossing folder and try again....or shim it with the metal plate you use for intricate dies. Good luck

    • @barbarabisson2551
      @barbarabisson2551 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KammitoesJust so you know, not every machine accepts 3-D folders. The opening in the electronic Logia I just bought is not wide enough to accept a 3-D folder. Otherwise it embosses thin folders very well. None of the machine descriptions tell you the depth of the opening, so unless they specifically say it'll emboss 3-D, you're gambling.

    • @Kammitoes
      @Kammitoes 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@barbarabisson2551 Sorry Barbara, I guess I was a little too encompassing in that statement. I admit I've never heard of the Logia and it was implied that I was referring to all Die Cut and Emboss Machines with a cutting width 6" and greater. Just looked the Logia up - do you mean 3D Embossing Folders won't fit height wise? You have to adjust the plates...it will fit just fine if you don't try to load the sandwich up as if the folder were a thin die. Take a look at the Gemini how to's for a more detailed explanation. They have thin feeding slots too.

    • @barbarabisson2551
      @barbarabisson2551 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kammitoes thanks for the try, but it would have to go through without ANY sandwich. Logia looks to me like the cheaper brand of the Anna Griffin electric machine. Embosses the thin folders so well with just the top and base plates..maybe if there where 2 very thin plastic adjustment plates, but they said they don't make any. I, also, assumed that every die & emboss machine would handle any depth with adjustments. It was my mistake. I should've called them before buying. I miss my Grand Caliber, where I could adjust the sandwich to cut and emboss everything, except steel wool dies, which I don't like anyway.

    Lightly mist your card stock before putting it into the embossing folder and running it through the machine. It softens the fibers of the card stock allowing the embossing to happen. Or, add an additional piece (or two) of printer paper over the folder but under the embossing plate. This acts as a shim to increase the roller pressure. You may have to experiment to see whether 1 or 2 “shims” helps your end result.

    My cutting plates are worn too and I also get the imprint on my paper when I run it through. I own a big shot. I don't like the fact that it doesn't fold for when I haul it to crops. I really like your bag & the fact that your machine folds up. TFS! XOXO

    When the embossing folder is not working because it's too thin.. just add some card stock or thin plastic as a shim.. I use 3 pieces of card stock.. and it worked.. 4 pieces work also..just depends on you folder and how thick it is.

      Sounds like you'd need to add shims to add thickness to the sandwich. Folders come in 3 thicknesses. None of the machines seem to advertise if they'll accept 3-D embossing folders, which is the thickest folder. (I had a bunch of these folders with the Grand Caliber machine, which broke using a thick die. go figure) The electronic Logia machine I bought won't accept the thick folders. Sounds like this Grand Caliber upgrade should accept them, though. Thinking I'll need to invest in the Platinum, too...but the price is about the same as the electric! yikes

    Sizzix and Spellbinders use different specifications and Just Judy Crafting is right, you need a shim. You may need cardstock or even cardboard. I use the thicker pieces that back paper pads. You'll need to experiment until you get it right, but don't force too thick of a "sandwich" or you could damage your machine.

    • @CuriouslyAbigail

      KatheD thanks Kathy! I appreciate the advice. I’ve tried cardboard but it wouldn’t feed and didn’t want to force it and I tried cardstock but maybe I just need to experience with layers of cardstock.
