My 98 Fatboy has the original factory belt on it and it is fine. If it breaks I have a chain conversion kit sitting in my shop. Changing a belt is a lot of work I can change a chain in a half hour and it can be done on the road with minimal tools.
@@ronrobertson59 so, true. The factory belts are super strong and more than enough for most power levels. The only reason I can think of for wanting to move away from belts is the aesthetic, the ease of changing, and maybe if you’re a “stunting” rider who does lots of wheelies.
Hey, been a while. Had an extremely busy schedule and wasn’t really in a good place mentally. But I made it😄 Also it seems like you made a change in your videos, instead of speeding it up, you’re explaining all the steps with a voice over, I love it.

Chain drive to make your bike look unique... Like the tens of thousands of chain driven bikes in the world The only reason I can think of for doing a conversion is for easier gear ratio changes. For racing or similar.
hello bikers, for thirty years I have driven cb500 and 750four VFR hondas then a triumph tiger 750 all with chain, I have never had any breakage although I ride with them every day. I checked once a month 1200 miles possibly a little grease spray or a cloth soaked in engine oil the best in my opinion. This lubrication was necessary if I drove for a week in the rain otherwise every two to three months. to tell you no restrictive maintenance. I adjusted the chain tension once a year with the engine and brake fluid change. Then I had motorbikes with ho da goldwing and bmw cardan shafts, it's really zero maintenance, just a touch of grease through the lubrication valve when servicing, you have to shift gears smoothly although there is a shock absorber. couple. coming we have my first harley sportster; I inevitably use my motorcycle every day, my belt broke after a turn, it makes a funny plop and then the engine revs and freewheels until it stops. fortunately close to the garage. He immobilizes my vehicle for a week while he receives the part he is installing. The next day I climb a slightly steep hill and the new belt breaks...bad experience. I sold that bike and bought a 20k mile HD FXR. I ride every day, it's my favorite motorcycle that I will always keep. Lately she has been skating strangely. Arriving at the garage I noticed that almost all the grooves were missing; it was practically smooth and very greasy. A friend, a retired Harley mechanic, explained to me that the seal behind the pulley deteriorates over time and leaks oil onto the belt, which in turn deteriorates. He told me the replacement cost was €2000!!! I have watched some tutorials and with the right tools I will take out the primary transmission, remove the rear wheel and install a suitable chain kit. I wouldn't have the swinging arm to remove. I would no longer have any risk of belt breakage. In the event of a broken chain, it can be repaired on the road with a few links or a new chain in the bag. You will have understood that the chain has many more advantages than disadvantages. Have a good trip and be careful. Greetings from France
Looks good. Funny how every time I see one of your videos, you seem to choose the same parts I have or am putting on my bagger build. Great choices! lol
Do it, Do it! If you call up Trask and tell them Bertini from TH-cam sent you they'll take care of you. 🤘🏼 People swore I would hate the chain drive and I LOVE IT! I rip on the throttle with confidence now. 😬😅
Not my kind of upgrade but that’s the beauty of a HD…. you can make it yours! Did that 54/24 gear combo make the 6 speed tranny s bit more usable? I find 6th gear to be useless 90% of the time on these bikes.
Great video, I know I should be looking at the bike but I can't help but to notice how good the quality of the video is. You must have a really good camera. 🙂
@@MichaelBertini hey it's been 11 Mo how is the chain setup holding? Hopefully well, I have a 2020 SGS that I'm seriously thinking about ditching the belt. I just would like to know how much if any adjustments you've had to make like taking out links, sprocket wear, what kind of chain stretch if any? L&R from sunny Arizona
@@A_A_Ron001 I would hit up Eric ask Trask and let him know I sent you, but mine is running perfectly still and I'm at over 200hp and 197tq now. I've only had to make 2 adjustments since the install.
Still going strong. I did have to change the chain though, but that was only because I got above the 200hp mark and needed a stronger chain. But that setup from Fuel Moto is awesome. 😬🤘🏼

What do you go with for axle adjusters? Those stock ones don’t even pretend to hold on mine.
Currently I run the Trask Performance swingarm but you could also checkout the Kraus axel adjusters, those are good too!
