My Palestinian grandparents also had to leave from Jaffa in '48 with only the clothes they were wearing, a small briefcase of paperwork and their keys hoping to return. Shipped out of their country without any warning and all their possessions, land, communities and livelihoods stripped

More and more people are starting to see through it. The "Holocaust survivor" card, along with the "anti-Semite!" card, has been played too much. The effects are wearing off, especially among the younger generation for whom WW2 is essentially, for better or for worse, ancient history.

Margaret Hodge was born in Egypt at the end of the war, Egypt was under British control then. Her family left Germany in the early 1930's to join his uncle's metal business Stemcor that today has a turnover of 5 plus billion pounds a year. Hodge's stories are a bit of a push, there's a certain irony that people who actually experienced the holocaust but criticize Israel are called self hating Jews but Hodge whose silent over settlement building or the collective punishment of Palestinians in Gaza whilst the West Bank is the definition of apartheid if your a Palestinian. That is the real crime, the one going on today and not in history.

    • @xyzsame4081
      @xyzsame4081 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Even IF she really feels that way - as ELECTED REPRESENTATIVE she should be able to discern feelings (triggered maybe by intergenerational trauma) from facts. She has to SERVE the citizens, she chose to be a LABOUR candidate (more likely because she could not win in that district under a Tory ticket).
So she should carefully consider what helps the party (win the next GE) - what helps Labour to poll well. if she has a -fight with Corbyn (and it better be justified) she could have had that behind closed doors.
Country and party before personal interests and grievances.
Well the whole campaign reeks of stabbing Corbyn in the back and of "self serving".
The Red Tories are trying to invent a justification to break up Labour.
The problem is that they would need to win elections if they split. Being perceived as traitors who risk another Tory win in the next GE is not going to help them win.
Alastair Campell has been phoning around in recent weeks (media persons if they would be intereste do become candidates).
The Blairites no doubt consider forming a centrist neoliberal Remain party with the Remainers of Tory.
But the Tories are not letting them have THEIR seats. Luckily they are all a self-serving pack and they likely do not trust each other one bit. And the media persons may have watched how the last coups ended and may not be willing to riks their reputation or a job they have (campaigning would interfer with jobs they have).
So the project "centrist party" likely isn't taking off.

The British treated Jewish refugees during WW2 with decency and they were and are safe. They are not discriminated against: work, education, getting an apartment, or house, or a loan, civil service, political career, army, their life, health, or property is not in danger.
Polls support that. The Times of Israel in the last days cites a study: Anti-semitic views in the U.K. have been polling at steady rates (no, it has not exploded since Corbyn took over) - around 6 %. More in the far right, and except for that it is distributed evenly over the political spectrum.
Of all minorities Jewish people suffer the least prejudice. Muslims face more negative bias and ALSO have REAL effects. Despite high rates of having finished school and having university degrees (more than the average population) they land fewer well paying jobs, fewer invitations to job interviews. They end up more often in jobs below qualification, etc.
Or the Windrush scandal anyone ?
The Tories wanted to reduce the number of foreigners somehow and black working class people that had been invited to come from Jamaica seemed to be low hanging fruits.
We are not talking about nasty comments on social media, but people being stressed out, refused medical treatment and being deported, families being broken up.

I've read the 'internationally recognised definition' and it is like a mission statement written by a child. If I were Corbyn, I would get the Palestinian authority to draft their equivalent and offer to sit down with Margaret Hodge or even Netanyahu and do a simultaneous signing. They would run like a scolded cat.

HATS OFF TO BOTH OF THESE GUYS.
AARON WAS INCISIVE, RESTRAINED, ARTICULATE AND PERSUASIVE.
EVEN THOUGH I'M PRETTY SURE THE INTERVIEWER'S WORKING FOR A ZIONIST MEDIA OUTLET HE ASKED INTELLIGENT QUESTIONS AND ELEVATED THE DEBATE.
    THANKS TO BOTH.

Margaret Hodge is a social democrat not labour. Welcome to Weimar Republic. Really bad parallel Margaret. There ain’t such a thing as a second generation survivor that’s verging on the ridiculous

Aaron has got himself entangled in this phoney conversation because he's accepting bogus arguments as valid in themselves. You have to frame the argument in a different paradigm otherwise you get absolutely nowhere. This video is very frustrating because Margaret Hodge has got Aaron where she wants him and she's not that intelligent.

Funnily enough I was on that website yesterday when I was doing research on academies. It looks good. I find Aaron and Novara a little inconcistent, they don't always hit the nail on the head. I generally agree with their position though.

Why oh why is the Jewish community so weak and easily offended? I'm Scottish, we've been persecuted for hundreds of years. You don't see us trying to make it illegal to hate us!
Please revert back to Sticks and Stones. Sometimes people don't like people. So what!

second generation Holocaust survivor? Unless the Holocaust was still going on when she was alive, how is she a survivor? And who is he to tell her not to be afraid? Maybe someone who may know better then her? What argument is this guy trying to make? That you should feed someone's fear and paranoia because of what their parents went through?

hypocritical stances ... get laughed at, end of story.
I find it nothing but humerus we have a group of people who demand special preference over everyone else because of who they are ... that is racism.
    nobody is above criticism.
