Shadow has always represented yin and yang to me. Hes simualtaneously the ultimate life form but not good enough to save one little girl. The same hedgehog who wants to desttoy all of humanity (in sa2) is also the most loving and passionate character in the cast. He fights tirelessly to save the very people who will one day attack him. But i think shadow 05 personifies this theme the best. The games entire gimmick is about morality, embracing his alien nature by black doom to do evil, or using his human nurture by maria to do good. Instead of some bullshit about removing the black arms dna (which other writers abosolutely wouldve done) shadow generations has him embracing the black arms abilities, but to fight for compassion and protection. Yin and yang is about accepting that light and darkness are dependant on each other, and there will always be darkness within oneself. But shadow inspires me because he comes to peace with his horrifying beginnings, and embraces his darkness to protect his light (maria.) And like you mentioned, epically flexing the same type of weapon that took away his best friend. Damn beautiful. Such a mature and nuanced implementation of this concept, and inspiring to someone as spritual as me.

Just listening to someone put into words exactly why he's such a freaking rad, cool, nuanced, fleshed out character always makes me excited. I remember being like 11-13 watching hours of Sonic X, being obsessed with Shadow's story, watching the ctuscene "movies" of the Sonic/Shadow games and being touched by Shadow's story every time. Funny what you mentioned toward the end. I actually fell in love with shadows character before I even knew wtf a sonic was lol. Almost a parallel to him trying to fullfill her wish I've trued to live in a way that honors my sibling, living authentically. I unfortunately fell victim to the hate bandwagon the Sonic series was getting in the 2010s. I thought I was a weirdo for liking this franchise, these characters and the lore since everybody was making fun of people who cared about those things so I tried "fitting in" and started to shit on the series too. Deep down though, I wasn't being honest to myself and I think I broke out of that self loathing phase after having played Frontiers and replaying SA2. SA2 reminded how bloody cool Shadow was and that I shouldn't care about what people think of us for liking this series. Year of Shadow only further strengthened that feeling.

As a Sonic fan and huge Shadow fan I got my tickets and I cant wait to see the movie in theaters with my friend. I got immersive motion seats so I guess my experience watching the movie should be heightened. I've never watched any regular movie in theaters with motion seats so this will be a fun new experience for me. I also can't wait to experience the fans reactions in real life and online to the movie. To me it feels like an ultimate celebration moment of how far Sonic has come as a franchise and how far video game movies as a whole have come in the industry. Also I hope the movie does really well box office wise and blows that horrendous looking Disney movie out of the water. That would be another huge moment for video game movies in the industry and further set the standard of why they need to be taken seriously with actual passion from now on. I got a feeling they might just be one of the last big saving graces for Hollywood.
If you’re thinking about how Shadow is the past and what direction they’d take him, I’d like to see a spin-off not too far off from the likes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. A story about someone maintaining his core values from the past, while learning how to adapt in an evolving future.
Y'know, I gotta say, for years I always figured that shadows legacy would be more legendary if he stayed dead in adventure 2. To have an epic campaign and incredible character arc to end with a meaningful sacrifice (which would've made the end credits hit even harder than they do. I liked team dark in heroes and all the black doom lore and his story in 06, but due to his dogshit portrayal in alot of the modern material like boom and forces, I convinced myself to reviving him in heroes just wasn't worth it, and shadows legacy will eventually die down. But when I watched dark beginnings for the first time, experienced the shadow generations campaign, after years I was like "Yeah, it was worth it." Even after his year is over, these bangers prove shadow and team dark still have tons of amazing stories to tell, and I couldn't be happier that shadow survived that fall in sa2. 2024 will go down as the peak of my teenage hood. ALL HAIL SHADOW

Shadow was also left handed. Is very visible in Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 2006. But is also clear in dark beginnings when he fights against GUN. In Sonic Prime his fighting stance is named "southpaw". Unfortunately this trait was mostly washed out, overlooked or forgotten because of the Wii mote and most people don't pay attention to details.

I already rebought my tickets! I have a fake leather jacket with red on the inside, red pants, and a shadow shirt I’m planning to wear (as well as a shadow necklace, and shadow and rouge bracelets) I bought the collectors edition of sonic x shadow generations (not my proudest buy because it was far too much money but I loved the game so much I can’t regret it lol), I love shadow so much! He’s the reason I got into sonic in the first place! (I also work at Hottopic, and everyone who works there is hyped to see the new movie, we even got a few other workers who knew nothing about sonic to look stuff up about shadow because we all love him)

I am a huge sonic fan, ive grown with these hedgies all the way back to heroes and mega collection on the game cube, and i love this hedgehog but sadly there was a time where i didnt like him or the rest of sonic and co just because of the meta eras damage to all there characters but now, now i am finally finding that love for these characters again with how they are portraying them and i think shadow has finally made a comeback to my top 3 favorites ( 1 is metal sonic and 2 is vector) which just makes me smile again
People nowadays are thinking a lot about Donkey Kong (specifically the game on N64) and how the Kong family should get a dedicated year for next year, and if I were to make a SEGA parallel to that, maybe Knuckles will get another spotlight next in the coming year(s) of Sonic games. Either that, or maybe Silver and Blaze will finally get a spotlight after almost 20 years. I'm so glad that Shadow has gotten a redemption of character in recent years, and I'd like to see that translate to the other characters, and maybe we'll even see more duo interactions like you said with Amy and Shadow. Maybe we'll see Shadow have more talks with Knuckles and Silver in the coming years.
I had to explain shadow lore to my dad an hour ago from the bio lizard, to Maria, to G.U.N., to 50 years later, to sonic Sonic adventure 2 and what’s been revealed for the third movie so far. I may have been like almost 9 when the Shadow the Hedgehog game came out, and by then the most I had ever seen of Shadow was from watching my brother play SA2B and me playing a demo disc of Sonic Heroes a few years before. I was kinda a disturbed kid, getting into the edgy and gritty stuff like Mortal Kombat and equally brutal games at a young age (though for some reason, the one exception from mom was GTA, oddly enough). By the time 2005 rolled around, like a one-two punch, not only did I first experience My Chemical Romance with the "Helena" music video and discover my fascination with goth and emo, but then I got to rent Shadow the Hedgehog on Gamefly. There was something so satisfying about seeing such a cartoony cheery world suddenly get hit with something darker, something more grim like Shadow, seeing two opposite worlds collide with one another. Or maybe I was just growing tired of the kids stuff and the reminders I was just a dumb kid. Shadow was the single most coolest character I'd ever known from that point on. Years later, middle school, I was able to reobtain a copy of SA2B and play the hell out of it. I was in a cringy grunge phase discovering music like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains, so the edgy story of Shadow was a blast for me. I especially loved his soundtrack in the game, and still do (when I forget how on-the-nose and awkward the lyrics are, lol) I can tell you right now middle school me would be *flipping out* to see Shadow on the big screen for the first time and voiced by someone so beloved and talented as Keanu Reeves. So bear all of this in mind when I say that yes, I too, will be flipping my shit when I go to see the movie in theaters. Shadow, to me, is the best thing to happen to the Sonic series.
My favourite shadow voice actor remains Yuji Kosa. Mainly because I use Sonic as a way to practice/learn japanese. From what I can gather, Shadow is definitively more formal then Sonic. He also doesn't use the arrogant 'ore' pronoun, but the more neutral 'boku'.
He also used relatively polite language by comparison with ます/です forms with people he’s closer with. He does still use informal speech around people like sonic or often to himself. I’ve heard a couple of examples whilst playing the Japanese audio. He’s definitely less brash and in your face then sonic’s speech patterns which use a lot of - ぜ and -ぞ endings which are very boyish in general. Shadow’s tend to be more neutral avoiding their use, though they still sound quite aggressive sometimes. Rouge contrastingly uses very feminine / womanly speech frequently replacing - よ with - わ or using expressions like -かしら to express wonder or amazement instead of かな or かなあ. 進め! (Susume!) - Advance! For example. It’s not as police as using say 進めて! but it’s infinitely better than 進めろ! which is extremely forceful. The patterns vary quite wildly but they are hardly ever overly masculine or feminine in speech. It’s rather interesting.

If you’re thinking about how Shadow is the past and what direction they’d take him, I’d like to see a spin-off not too far off from the likes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. A story about someone maintaining his core values from the past, while learning how to adapt in an evolving future.
Y'know, I gotta say, for years I always figured that shadows legacy would be more legendary if he stayed dead in adventure 2. To have an epic campaign and incredible character arc to end with a meaningful sacrifice (which would've made the end credits hit even harder than they do. I liked team dark in heroes and all the black doom lore and his story in 06, but due to his dogshit portrayal in alot of the modern material like boom and forces, I convinced myself to reviving him in heroes just wasn't worth it, and shadows legacy will eventually die down. But when I watched dark beginnings for the first time, experienced the shadow generations campaign, after years I was like "Yeah, it was worth it." Even after his year is over, these bangers prove shadow and team dark still have tons of amazing stories to tell, and I couldn't be happier that shadow survived that fall in sa2. 2024 will go down as the peak of my teenage hood.

@@lebollsonggammas the goat. I always felt bad as a kid cuz I was looking for forward to playing his story the least, (yeah even big excited me more) but gammas story ended up hitting me the most (sonics was more fun to play tho)
@@sugon_deez yeah, Gamma arguably had more character development in his story than even some of the other characters in this franchise, I'm glad Omega is kind of a nod to him as a successor.
I can agree with that angle as it would give his story a solid conclusion, yet I’ll also confess that it’s nice to have a character I love not die for once. 😅

Shadow was also left handed. Is very visible in Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 2006. But is also clear in dark beginnings when he fights against GUN.

I have a fake leather jacket with red on the inside, red pants, and a shadow shirt I’m planning to wear (as well as a shadow necklace, and shadow and rouge bracelets) I bought the collectors edition of sonic x shadow generations (not my proudest buy because it was far too much money but I loved the game so much I can’t regret it lol), I love shadow so much! He’s the reason I got into sonic in the first place! (I also work at Hottopic, and everyone who works there is hyped to see the new movie, we even got a few other workers who knew nothing about sonic to look stuff up about shadow because we all love him)

I am a huge sonic fan, ive grown with these hedgies all the way back to heroes and mega collection on the game cube, and i love this hedgehog but sadly there was a time where i didnt like him or the rest of sonic and co just because of the meta eras damage to all there characters but now, now i am finally finding that love for these characters again with how they are portraying them and i think shadow has finally made a comeback to my top 3 favorites ( 1 is metal sonic and 2 is vector) which just makes me smile again
People nowadays are thinking a lot about Donkey Kong (specifically the game on N64) and how the Kong family should get a dedicated year for next year, and if I were to make a SEGA parallel to that, maybe Knuckles will get another spotlight next in the coming year(s) of Sonic games. Either that, or maybe Silver and Blaze will finally get a spotlight after almost 20 years.
I'm so glad that Shadow has gotten a redemption of character in recent years, and I'd like to see that translate to the other characters, and maybe we'll even see more duo interactions like you said with Amy and Shadow. Maybe we'll see Shadow have more talks with Knuckles and Silver in the coming years.
I had to explain shadow lore to my dad an hour ago from the bio lizard, to Maria, to G.U.N., to 50 years later, to sonic Sonic adventure 2 and what’s been revealed for the third movie so far. He was confused asf and didn’t get most if not anything but I love talking about shadow and barely get to talk about sonic lore anyways so I loved it 😆

I may have been like almost 9 when the Shadow the Hedgehog game came out, and by then the most I had ever seen of Shadow was from watching my brother play SA2B and me playing a demo disc of Sonic Heroes a few years before. I was kinda a disturbed kid, getting into the edgy and gritty stuff like Mortal Kombat and equally brutal games at a young age (though for some reason, the one exception from mom was GTA, oddly enough).
By the time 2005 rolled around, like a one-two punch, not only did I first experience My Chemical Romance with the "Helena" music video and discover my fascination with goth and emo, but then I got to rent Shadow the Hedgehog on Gamefly. There was something so satisfying about seeing such a cartoony cheery world suddenly get hit with something darker, something more grim like Shadow, seeing two opposite worlds collide with one another. Or maybe I was just growing tired of the kids stuff and the reminders I was just a dumb kid. Shadow was the single most coolest character I'd ever known from that point on.
Years later, middle school, I was able to reobtain a copy of SA2B and play the hell out of it. I was in a cringy grunge phase discovering music like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains, so the edgy story of Shadow was a blast for me. I especially loved his soundtrack in the game, and still do (when I forget how on-the-nose and awkward the lyrics are, lol)
I can tell you right now middle school me would be *flipping out* to see Shadow on the big screen for the first time and voiced by someone so beloved and talented as Keanu Reeves. So bear all of this in mind when I say that yes, I too, will be flipping my shit when I go to see the movie in theaters. Shadow, to me, is the best thing to happen to the Sonic series.
My favourite shadow voice actor remains Yuji Kosa. Mainly because I use Sonic as a way to practice/learn japanese. From what I can gather, Shadow is definitively more formal then Sonic. He also doesn't use the arrogant 'ore' pronoun, but the more neutral 'boku'.
He also used relatively polite language by comparison with ます/です forms with people he’s closer with.
He does still use informal speech around people like sonic or often to himself. I’ve heard a couple of examples whilst playing the Japanese audio.
He’s definitely less brash and in your face then sonic’s speech patterns which use a lot of - ぜ and -ぞ endings which are very boyish in general. Shadow’s tend to be more neutral avoiding their use, though they still sound quite aggressive sometimes.
Rouge contrastingly uses very feminine / womanly speech frequently replacing - よ with - わ or using expressions like -かしら to express wonder or amazement instead of かな or かなあ.
進め! (Susume!) - Advance! For example. It’s not as police as using say 進めて! but it’s infinitely better than 進めろ! which is extremely forceful.
The patterns vary quite wildly but they are hardly ever overly masculine or feminine in speech. It’s rather interesting.
