  • Coyote trapping is one of my favorite things to do in the winter. This was my first time ever eating a coyote. And it turned out to have very surprising results.

    Very nice to see a younger generation enjoying the outdoors! I grew up hunting and trapping around Coshocton, Ohio. Tons of great memories! Used to trap alot of beaver, muskrat, & mink. Now I'm curious what fur prices are these days lol! Keep up the good work!

    YOU SHOULD TRY moistening the meats of these critters, yote, fox, woodchuck roll in flour with himalyan salt,pepper,season salt and a dash of garlic salt, fry in butter....i think that youll find it much more edible. happy outdoors and happy harvesting

    Hey man, really been enjoying your videos lately and have been kinda binging content a bit. You remind me so much of myself when I was growing up, it’s like a nostalgia trip and I do really appreciate that you took the time to make all these vids and preserve it. I know this video is old and I’m sure you are dispatching yotes with much better guns now, but that air rifle (while capable technically) isn’t ideal for chest shots in yotes. Especially a hollow point, you need penetration when playing with bigger game, and at 800fps you aren’t getting expansion with those anyways. Any gain you get power wise is only from a little extra displacement. Hope one day we randomly get to meet somehow g, I feel like we would hit it off instantly. If you’re ever wanting to come to Va I have access to some nice properties

    Looks like the catch involved a problem with the pan actually being on top of the paw for atleast a while. Which does happen more often with 4 coiled traps that do jump up a little bit especially with a mature wise coyote (probably educated & toe pinched before). Basically they almost or technically did with draw their foot after the pan fell,but as they do,the snap & recoil of the trap throws the pan way up now that they lifted their foot off of it. This all happens very,very fast as it goes down. Then the trap jumps up with the force & recoil & still catches them high on the foot as it should ,but! The pan is on top of the paw instead of under it & can dig into the paw with the great force the coyote can pull & twist with. You can simulate this & make it happen with a broom stick handle if your very,very quick. Looks like he wrecked & bent your pan & pan post as he twisted & rotated the paw in the trap & got the pan to fall twisted back under his paw. They are brute strong like sled dogs. A dog less trap avoids that or those traps where the pan is not actually connected to the trap frame. I think they call them the - I trip system? Doesnt matter,no real harm done & you caught a obviously educated coyote which can be a real problem that only gets smarter as you do. Another way is a smaller trap such as a 1.5 , 1.65 or 1.75. I like the 1.5 best & coil spring them my self. You should check into the Bridger 450 or duke 450. You can always 4 coil a trap pretty easy. These smaller traps fit better & dont give room for the pan to flip up or for them to chew. Smaller traps are stronger & harder to bend like a metal rod is over your knee..

    Personally, I would not put it down with a pellet gun or a heart shot. Even if it does get blood around and the hide a little bloody, that is way more quick and ethical than a heart shot.
    Just my opinion though.

    • @lukasbejcek8841
      @lukasbejcek8841 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heart shot is all right, it is legal. Even livestock is not always killed 100% cleanly at slaughterhouses. There must always be a compromise found between what is better for the animal and what for people. I think heart shots are not much worse for the animal mostly, while they really make the trapper´s work easier. So, I think there is nothing bad if a trapper favors heart shots to head shots.

    You didn't treat your meat right! To get it more tender try a tenderizing rub or use a cooking mallet if you don't have the time to wait. Also you can soak your meat in milk to pull the blood out, which gives it a gammy taste. Other than that I think your vidio was great! Keep up the good work.

    @timothygodwin1189 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok i love watching your videos ... today is the 1st time..... i have 1 suggestion . All the gammy and wild taste in animals you kill including deer the gammy and wild taste comes from the fat and the white skin in the meat. So if you seperate the tendons in the meat into its seperate sections and take off all fat and white skin the meat should taste very good . Try usong some tony chacheres spices and herbs to season it with it is very good that is the seasoning in not the plain green container but its the one with the baby blue trim on the can. Look it up. Its not as salty but it is great . Just get all the fat and skin off the meat before cooking it and it will taste great. Thanks

    Your first coyote in this video was caught by the wrong foot ,thats why the pan was flipped up & ruined & you almost missed him. He is caught by his right,best & fastest dominant foot. He was supposed to be a left front foot catch. They (all wild animals) are born right footed ,legged or handed. Notice in any bible it says god did everything with a strong right hand. Its not just a coincidence,wild game is right handed. They post or stand on the left foot & dig at the dirt hole with the better or right foot. Bobcats will sink in claws of the left foot to hold in a fight or game kill & swing with the right foot to rip,cut while they bite. That right foot is meticulously coordinated & accurate well trained from life use. Its like a right handed man in a fight. He will grab with the left & punch with the right. Following me so far? So in sight of this wrong foot catch, it is obvious that 1 or 2 things were work. 1st ) this coyote was edjucated an got caught while trying to dig out your trap that he knew was there with his right foot. 2nd there may have been mistakes made in your set making.
    "OR BOTH!" as i do suspect. Any time you get a coyote,fox,bobcat or coon in a dirthole by the right foot, your lucky to have caught them at all. It is a warning & call for you to research your trap sets & setting skills. The trap is always off set to the left of the dirt hole so they step in it securely with the left foot as they approach & prepare to dig at the dirt hole with the right foot. How far to the left depends on what species or target animal & the size of what i call their wheel base. Coyote? Center of trap pan should be 4" to 6" left of the center of the dirt hole. I feel that coyote actually found your trap, snapped it & removed & accidently replaced his foot in it again after the pan recoiled & stood up & before the jaws closed. Yes,fox & coyotes are actually that damn fast with that right foot & bobcats are even worse! Talk lighting!!! That why you shoot for the left foot. The trap may have jumped up & put the coyotes foot back in before the jaws closed or the coyote may have done it all on his own with a frightened double slap reflex. I have a notion this dog has snapped your traps before & even been toe pinched & escaped.

    I'm guessing that pellet gun is 1000fps+ ??? Also you should slow cook the tough cuts of meat to make it more tender, A chili garlic butter basted yote might be good. I heard it tastes like "wet dog" I think that with any animal as long as you remove the scent glands then it should just taste like meat.

    • @blockethoutdoors
      @blockethoutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the pellets I use it travels at around 800fps. I think that all wild game meat tastes pretty much the same with none of the scent glands. Next time I eat one I will defiantly slow cook the leg because of how chewy it was.

      I saw a video a few weeks ago of a coyote grabbing a kid by their jacket luckily someone was close enough to scare it off I also have seen them grab someone’s small dog killing it !! I worked on a hog farm in Missouri and it was a constant battle between us and them !! They even grabbed a little hog !! I was headed to the farrowing house to do chores when a big doe bounced over the hill I saw what I thought was 2 dogs having never seen a coyote come over the hill !! I then walked to the top of the hill and looked over thinking it was a farm but all it was is a woods - thicket !! I then realized it was coyotes I was lucky that day. !! I was only working there about a week when this happened I realized quickly that they were on that farm !! Like this young man said they kill baby deer they kill other animals as well !!
