    I've had a Panasonic DP-UB9000 for a couple years now. Honestly, it's a love hate relationship, the video processing capabilities are great, and the build quality definitely fits the bill, it's a heavy duty device, and that heavy duty higher build design makes the thing essentially silent, basically impervious to any sort of noises that come from many cheaper chassis'/covers that end up with lots of vibration noises, same goes for the disc spinning, loading, and etc, you won't hear a sound.
    Now that being said, it's ability to play 4K videos (like showcase demos) over a usb 3.0 drive that's connected to a router and connected through a 1GBPS link, AND having issue playing back some formats that an old $150 4k player was able to play is the kind of thing that could drive me up the wall. I think it's pretty rational and easy to understand, if you make a product that's supposed to be the best, the flagship, and has the price tag of several regular 4k players combined, it ought to outdo every cheap bluray player in just about every area. Why is fast/quick boot/startup an option in the settings? It should just boot FAST, period, did they forget what year it was when they built this thing?
    I know I'm ranting a bit but companies cutting corners on their best, on their most expensive, is just everywhere. Like when I bought a 2022 Subaru Ascent Touring trim, guess what, you might have the nicer bigger rims, but all the trims, even the cheapest/lowest, have the same exact GARBAGE stock tires, the top two or so trims just have the bigger size of the tire, and they're crap! Here's your newest year and model AWD SUV that costs about 50K, and we made sure to put the cheapest kind of discount tires we could find for ya. Awesome! Oh and your car has the capabilities of remote start, and you get to do it through your phone with your free 3 year subura online subscription service, but we made sure not to put a remote start button on your $300+ keyfobs, so you can only remote start it with the subura online service or pay $450 for a totally separate FOB with one button that's JUST for remote engine starting the car that's already capable of it.
    Guess I had that on my mind for a while, but I just see and experience that kind of stuff everywhere in everything!

    I bought the Panasonic UB9000 when I sent my Oppo 203 in for service. It was very impressive . . . at first. The image and sound quality are top shelf but it is an extremely glitchy player. It will freeze up on 4k discs that have no obvious scratches. If you pause it it will not re-engage the audio until you stop playing and then hit play again. It runs very hot and the menus are atrocious and the remote will cease operation until you reinsert the batteries. Also, there has not been a software update in over two years. I am glad I still have my Oppo 203 but I really was hoping for better performance and reliability for such a highly rated player.

      Did you had to buy a $1,000.00 Blu-ray player for temporary use as a backup? If you were going to keep your Oppo 203, you could've bought a less expensive Blu-ray player such as a Panasonic 820 or another brand, until you get your Oppo back from service. You've made the wrong choice from the git go.

    I have a DB-UB820 and it is very slow to boot and load discs, has issues finding hdr (either dolby or hdr10) and now has an f99 problem (which can mean any of 20+ things are wrong) 3 years after purchase. This seems to be a common experience.

    • @Barbarapape
      @Barbarapape ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is sadly how todays players are designed with cheap components that only last until the warranty expires.
      You used to be able to buy well made mid range players than ran until the lasers died, Pioneer made some good ones.
      Now that Oppo has gone, finding good players that last is not easy.

(so under NSW laws it has to last 3x longer) It also doens't matter if it is the best or second best, the premium price tag means the build quality and small components like capacitors etc. should also be good quality.
