The fight was the house's rule where all of the children must fight to the death to earn the title of the "King" which is the throne of the House of the Hearth and the next successor, it was explained at the very beginning of the video

i really love how everyones reaction to arlecchino having .2 seconds of happiness is consistently "clervie is about to get launched into the sun isnt she"
it might be less her friend giving her power and rather her motivation renewed and lets her "curse" flair up
this makes more sense probably AOSIFJSOAIFJ AHAHAHAHAH
In Fontaine that flower represents parting, and it was worn as a pendant by Clervie. She wasn't getting power from her friend, she was letting her curse take over. The blackening of her hands and arms indicate the severity of the curse, and Clervie had kept it from getting worse ever since that day with the spider.
Spoilers for the story quest but if anyone wants to know: Clervie was Mother's biological daughter and was included in the death game to prove impartiality. Clervie spent her life trying to get Mother to stop the game and suffered injuries at her hands. She eventually decided to convince the other kids to only fight to a draw and not kill each other, but people still got injured and were handed over to Doctor and never seen again. Clervie lost all hope and wanted to die, and the next time she was set to duel Arlecchino, she stepped into her attack. Arlecchino didn't mean to kill her, and Clervie basically used the duel as a way to end her own life. That's why she says she's sorry... and thank you.
And no that isn't Frem. Frem joined the House of the Hearth under Mother just before she was killed by Arlecchino. One reason he feels loyalty to Father is he was certain he would have died in the next round of the death game had Mother not been killed.

No. Arlecchino already achieved the title of king as she was the only one left. The fight between the children was to choose the next successor. She was not supposed to kill Crucabena. She was to submit to the previous knave after the duel, she choose not to and to kill Crucabena as she was reminded of her friend when looking at the flowers.

The number of people who talked over or naturally missed the opening part where it says "You will grow up and fight to the death to become king" is actually starting to think Hoyo messed up their story boarding for that information lol.

@@kaizenn_no I think it was just bad timing by HoYo's storyboard team. They open the video with a major lore point to the story when they know people are not yet focused on the video. So the lore info just kinda gets missed. That's my theory anyway

@@agekkcrow Yeah its true. Its lost in translation, but in CN version, when Arlecchino asks "do mothers usually argue with their daughters?", she used the CN word for biological mother which is different than their normal word for mother.

I think Arlecchino didn't kill Clervie, she just killed herself because she knew won't be able to kill her.
yeah!!! either that or clervie intentionally ran herself into arle's sword during their fight to end it since she knew arlecchino wouldnt be able to do it herself
