I really like your videos because they're very well constructed, provide very detailed helpful information, and display that you have knowledge on what you're talking about. Keep up the good work John! :) congrats
Point is. Before you android fanboys criticize iOS for having incremental changes, maybe you also need to look at android's incremental changes. iOS can be customized too. You can move those icons around. Download apps unique to your needs to give you a different user experience where it really matters. They're all there. Why would they change a UI that works very well? They've added a lot of functionalities to the iPhone since the first one. So yes, there are changes.
iPhone is the better choice overall. LTE, better camera, bigger internal memory, better screen, lighter, thinner, etc. The only significant advantage of the Nexus is that it's more affordable.
I'm not talking about widgets. I'm talking about super quick "1-click" settings change right from the drop down notification bar. With iOS, you have to open the settings app. Then you have to scan through the whole menu for what settings you want to change such as bluetooth. When you click on the address from a browser or app, by default it takes you straight to apple's maps, not giving you the option for Google Maps.
I used to argue. Then I realized that if I like android and somebody else doesn't agree with my choice, that it doesn't matter and its not worth an argument...
The iPhone is a bit more expensive to manufacture though, it's a more complicated build with more technical advancements and premium materials. The Nexus still offers much better value, just something to keep in mind :)
When he said the Iphone 5 with its sharp edges and cold metal was better to hold in the hand than the smooth and well shaped Nexus 4, I paused the video, posted this comment and lef...
Mhmm, strange. I ordered on the 3rd as I said. Was waiting all day for it to go live on the Google Play store, ended up snapping one up in the first minute or so. I got it when it was on 1-2 weeks delivery. They weren't lying. Got it in exactly 2 weeks with delivery charge refunded due to the shipping taking more than 1-2 days as stated on purchase. Maybe you'll get yours soon. Where do you live?
"Not all settings are on the android notification bar?" Again, the beauty of customization. Widgetsoid app can custom the notification bar to have what ever settings you want, tailored to your preference. Quick toggles w/ icons is much more efficient then having to comb through the settings menu.
I don't expect the nexus 4 to lose sales because of the iPhone 5. They cater to different people/markets. The nexus 4 is for the budget/cheap crowd and the iPhone is a more premium offering. That's why I'm not surprised when comparisons like this are in the iPhone's favour most of the time.
It's all down to preference. While it's true some people just choose the iPhone without even looking at Android, a lot of people have tried both iOS and Android and preferred iOS for their own reasons.
I currently own a Nexus 4, Nexus 7 ('12), and a new Nexus 7 ('13). In addition, I also currently own a iphone 4S (iOS 7 Beta 4) and ipad 3 (iOS 6.1.4). Based on my observation, my Nexus crashed significantly less then my iOS devices (including my 4S on iOS 6).
I'm a Note 2 owner and it's fantastic, but I'm thinking of returning to Nexus when the 5 is released. I had the Nexus One and loved it. I think the Nexus series has the perfect balance without the bloatware. I hope Google finally releases they're own branded Nexus, after all they own Motorola now. I want a direct competitor to Apple. I guess we'll see...
No ppl who are bored of trolls making the internet a boring place to be repliy back. Being a troll is so 2008 and most ppl are done with it and got over it , and realise the internet is a lot more fun without you.
I have an iPhone, and and it is not the most intuitive interface. I think that you only said that to make it sound like you weren't bashing the iPhone. I am a honest user and take the truth very well... IOS is bland. I I'm getting the Note 2 next month. Android has shaped up better than I thought they ever would. I know I only have a iPhone 4, but every later reiteration is basically the same... So I don't fell like I'm missing out on anything.
I love my Nexus 4, it is efficient, smooth and a bargain for only $300! Direct updates from Google means that it will always be up to date with the latest software! A no-brainer buy compared to the iPhone!
kinda agree with the photo quality. Iphone 5 is better than the nexus 4. But will still go for the Nexus 4 due to its functionality. Seriously, it saves time using Android platform to perform your daily tasks.
One thing that's obvious throughout phonearena reviews is John will always choose iPhone no matter how much better the Android experience is than IOS. That's his preference. Nobody can base their purchase off of his choice, but you can turn down the volume and choose for yourself lol
I have a Nexus 4 and the camcorder is ok, its not outstanding but its also not bad. The camera makes crisp and clear shots and has a very intuitive UI, it also has a 360 panorama mode which works great. It's up to you to decide, but for me it was a simple decision since there is no LTE in my country and I realy LOVE the stock android experience. If you had an Android before you could be frustrated by the lack of customisation and features on iOS. I hope I could hep you. ;)
I've been an iOS user since 2008 (owned iphone 3g,3gs, 4, 4s; ipad 2; ipod touch 3rd & 4th Gen). I've also owned Nexus S, Galaxy S2, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, and Nexus 7. For me, Pure Android is just so f**king good. Like I mentioned, with Android, the OS conforms to the users. With iOS, the users is "Required" to conform to iOS. No shortcuts, No widgets, No Toggles, too much restrictions, etc. I guess you need to own a Nexus to know what I'm talking about.
Both phones launches apps at equal speed. In addition, the difference in data speed with Nexus 4 w/ consistent HSPA+ 15mbps down & iphone 5 LTE 25mbps down is diminutive and hardly noticed in real world performance. FYI, the Nexus 4 does have a hidden LTE chip under the hood.
I hate searching "Nexus 4 vs. iPhone 5" on TH-cam, because I know that the first seven or so pages are going to show results from people who will say the iPhone is is better Android sucks. They don't even do a good job of comparing! The Nexus was clearly the winner.
No doubt iPhone is super easy to use, and everything is just ready to go out of box. But at some point, you just get bored. It's always those same icons hanging there. Nothing ever changes. And all you can do is chang the wallpaper.
No lie. I admit, I'm a tech junkie. New phone comes out that I find interesting, I buy it, and sell my old one on craigslist. "Android left in the wild?" You must be confused with "Manufacturers" using the Android OS which tends to be delayed with updates. Nexus is a pure Google android device, which is the first to receive the latest updates. My 2010 Nexus S received the Jelly Bean update. 2010 iphone 4 didn't even get Siri, nor turn by turn navi. I got the 16GB Nexus.
You are aware that Google Now is more advance then Siri, right? FYI, Popular Science awarded Google Now "Innovation of the year" and called siri "outdated by comparison." Google Now "can" open Native apps. Google Now "can" make appts, reminders, alarms, timers, etc. What Google Now does that siri can't is "Prediction," such as Traffic shown before commute; Flight schedule by reading Gmail; translation when traveling; Currency when traveling; etc.
iPhone is so 2000 because nothing has changed since 2000, that's funny that you would say that the N4 copied the glass back because the LG Optimus G ALSO has a glass back, and i'm surprised that Apple didn't put a patent on it and sue everyone.
Nexus 4: Hidden LTE chip; NFC chip (i.e., Beam file transfer, Google Wallet, NFC tag commands, etc.), and wireless charging. iphone 5: same as the 2010 iphone 4, but with 4G LTE (which Android had 1.5 years prior to iphone 5).
Settings is right their on the first screen of the iPhone. No need to pull down the notif bar. And mind you, not all settings are on the android notif bar. There's a limit as to how many shortcuts you can place. You are wrong, when you open safari and use google search engine, it will lead you to google maps instead of iOS maps. But I don't mind iOS maps as well.
Premium feel is subjective though. iPhones 4(s) was praised for its premium feel with a back glass panel. Nexus goes all glass and suddenly glass isn't as premium anymore. Also nexus plays video better because it can do proper 720p resolution.
You obviously don't understand the functionality of Nexus, what Jelly Bean is, what is a pure vanilla android, nor what is "Google Now." If you're interested, fell free to read the article "AN IPHONE LOVER'S CONFESSION: I SWITCHED TO THE NEXUS 4. COMPLETELY." This would save us time for the both of us with this discussion.
The iPhone may well have a couple of things which are SLIGHTLY better than the Nexus 4 but for the price, the Nexus 4 is twice the device the iPhone 5 is.
You had to go there with the "did it first," did you. Android had "Voice command" back in 2009. Siri was based off of voice command. In addition, siri was supposed to be a default app for all carriers of Android. Apple saw the potential of siri, so they bought out the whole Siri inc. to make it exclusive for iOS. Apple didn't even create siri. Again, you seem to avoid the fact that Nexus is the device that receives timely OS updates. That's why I chose Nexus over the overrated S3.
Its kinda funny how you see Android fanboys trying to troll Apple on iPhone videos, but no Apple fanboys on Android videos. Its because Apple fanboys don't care what you think, nothing you say will make us change the phone we want. Vice versa.
Android started off slow but now has the bigger market share. I phone is ideally suited to younger kids and people who don't want to put much thought into how their phone looks and operates. The insane level of custumization, useability, and pure open source freedom puts android ahead. Who wants to be stuck under the thumb of apple? Being told what your iPhone can and can't do, and what apps your allowed to have.
Again, the key word is minor "incremental changes." The iOS doesn't have widgets; no way to implement toggles in its notification bar for quick settings; less integrated (i.e., tap on address in yelp, and it automatically opens apple maps instead of letting you choose Google maps); No way to personalize with Live Wallpapers, lockers, launchers, etc.; You can't tweak the OS files, Kernels, Bootloader, nor Recovery, etc. The changes are so minute that I sold my ipad 2 for a Nexus 7.
I have both & I love both. iOS still wins on the app department. There is still amazing apps u can't get on Android or they're not as good. Iphone desperately needs a bigger & wider screen.
Hey Guys! Jooooohn V here from Phone Arena, right now you are watching a video comparison between the Google Nexus 4 and the Apple iPhone 5, two standout handsets this holiday season. Now we are going to use some standards, we are gonna compare the two from an iPhone 5 because iPhone 5 is the best phone ever, yes we are gonna compare their similarity with the iPhone 5 because iPhone 5 is the best! Conclusion: Galaxy Nexus 4 is not that similar with the best phone ever. I'm an Apple Fanboy. -JV
Find settings app > click on settings app > find what you want to turn on (i.e., wifi) > click "on." Too many steps. Yes "Work Arounds." i.e., You want to navigate to a place by clicking on the address in an app or browser (ex. Yelp) using Google Maps. You have to Copy Address > open Google Maps > Paste address > click on address > click on navigate to. Not intuitive at all.
The whole "copy" argument is getting really old, considering that iOS4 through iOS6 are primarily features that Android has had 2+ years before they were ever introduced into iOS (i.e., notification bar, wireless sync, over the air update, lock screen notification, Facebook integration, tab web browsing, voice command, front facing camera, etc.).
It has 3 things going for it. The build quality, the optimization, and the apps, although number 3 is now a matter of preference. The build quality is some of the best on a smartphone, and the OS is well optimized, and so are the apps. It's an alright phone, but certainly not the best. It's beaten by the nexus 4, Galaxy s4, HTC one, galaxy s3, oppo find 5, xperia z and z ultra, and several others. The screen is too small, the OS is limited, and it's too expensive.
True, not everyone need a smart phone too. I have 30 some GB of medical images on SD card. Plus another 7 or so card with HD movies and music. Unless you have free 40 or at least 20 LTE, local storage is still a must for a professional user.
Yes I agree. The main thing is Android has had many updates which over hauled its appearance and aesthetics, where as iOS unfortunately is extremely past date. I have an iPhone and I do admit the Android OS is far better...but Apple does have the potential of creating something which rivals modern Android. Possible iOS7? Who knows but I agree, for the moment Android OS is far better and people who disagree, clearly have not experienced Android.
i own none of the phones and i do wanna upgrade to one of these...many people say iphone sucks ( i hv never used an iphone ) so y do people say that iphone isnt too good...a little info might help me save lot of money..any replies are welcome ...thank you !
I like to watch phonearena reviews even if John does have always slightly biased reviews towards apple products. This one not a bad review either but could definitely tell which one John personally likes more.
For the price the nexus 4 obviously wins just because its value. But you do have to look at it in comparison of two flagship phones from 2 respected companies. The iPhone kills when it comes to software optimization and hardware. I mean you can't even compare the nexus GPU with the iPhone 5. The iPhone kills it. Overall amazing phones but the iPhone does slightly edge out the win. But I'll still be getting the nexus.
For 299 you get a phone that is equivalent no even better than the 800$ iPhone 5..With an OS you can do anything with...We definitely do have a clear winner, the Nexus 4.
I was being sarcastic because he said that it had better viewing angels and is more responsive yet they were both made in the same company by using the same technology.
I really do not see the iPhone being easier to use over 4.0 OS anymore. Now I've changed to 4.2.2 at the time, I am simply able to do a lot more but the things that iPhone can do, its still not easier over andriod anymore. The only down side is audio. apple are better in that area IMHO.
Same with the iPhone. Tap settings. Click your option, and you're done. As for maps. It's even easier with the iPhone. Just ask Siri to locate the restaurant and you're done. Siri can also open an app for you. Ooopss android can't. That's why I will never switch to android. Too much steps to accomplish a simple task. I can use Siri to make appts, reminders, alarms, timer, etc. No hassle. No need for widgets.
Hand me the Nexus 4 with a better OS and the Android 4.2.2 is smooth, fast and increase the battery life. iPhone 5 is for the people who want to have a good design and a good camera.
i saw a lot of people buying, swapping their iphone to S3.. because its a better phone.. we dont care about the review.. fastest? most sensitive? premium metal? android phones now rule!
You'll love it. I'm enjoying mine. Got it delivered yesterday. Ordered mine in the first minute on the 3rd of Dec.
I really like your videos because they're very well constructed, provide very detailed helpful information, and display that you have knowledge on what you're talking about. Keep up the good work John! :) congrats
Ordered my Nexus 4 about 2 weeks ago, can't wait till it's here.
Nexus 4 ftw! I've had mine since December and it just doesn't disappoint.
i logged in just to let everybody know that this guy's a true applefanboy.
I know phonearena will put the iphone on a pedestal before even watching this video. The website should be called "iPhoneArena"
Point is. Before you android fanboys criticize iOS for having incremental changes, maybe you also need to look at android's incremental changes. iOS can be customized too. I know some people who don't like Porsche design too. Taste is subjective.

so the Iphone 5 is £509.95 for the 16gb version sim free and the Nexus 4 is £279.00 for the 16gb version, not really a hard choice is it.
Well if you're not a power user, iOS might be better for you. Thank you for your constructive criticism :)
Apple = simple devices
Android = devices with more options.
These phones are the best of both worlds.
Wow, that was the best review I've ever heard......
at your whole life your brain was slowly moving down
It's all down to preference. While it's true some people just choose the iPhone without even looking at Android, a lot of people have tried both iOS and Android and preferred iOS for their own reasons.

So smudging is a big deal now? Certainly was not in your reviews with the iPhone 4s/4.
I love my Nexus 4, it is efficient, smooth and a bargain for only $300! Direct updates from Google means that it will always be up to date with the latest software! A no-brainer buy compared to the iPhone!
is the iphone display better or is the nexus' displays brightness is turned down?
kinda agree with the photo quality. Iphone 5 is better than the nexus 4. But will still go for the Nexus 4 due to its functionality. Seriously, it saves time using Android platform to perform your daily tasks.

Ok, one question for Johnny boy; What phone would you get for $330- that's better & faster than the Nexus4?
I have a Nexus 4 and the camcorder is ok, its not outstanding but its also not bad. The camera makes crisp and clear shots and has a very intuitive UI, it also has a 360 panorama mode which works great. It's up to you to decide, but for me it was a simple decision since there is no LTE in my country and I realy LOVE the stock android experience. If you had an Android before you could be frustrated by the lack of customisation and features on iOS. I hope I could hep you. ;)
I guess everyone who doesn't hate Apple falls under that umbrella...
They're still rectangular or squares. Clocks and weather widgets have been around on android since they started supporting widgets. So what's new?
Within 60 seconds he was already molesting the iPhone's "radiating premium-ness."
Expensive phone vs a cheapest phone? you gotta be kidding me! lol
nexus 4 with its price tag and specs yuu get with it, i think its a very good phone...i bough it against iphone 5, and loving it....
Not quite.
BUT, add "Widgetsoid" app for quick setting toggles, and NOW it is the best notification bar EVER.
Two clear advantages of LG are 1. Cost (subsidized by Google advertisement) and 2. Widgets. iPhone takes the rest
FYI, Popular Science awarded Google Now "Innovation of the year" and called siri "outdated by comparison."
Google Now "can" open Native apps.
Google Now "can" make appts, reminders, alarms, timers, etc.
What Google Now does that siri can't is "Prediction," such as Traffic shown before commute; Flight schedule by reading Gmail; translation when traveling; Currency when traveling; etc.
I still don't understand how a blank, nearly featureless screen is considered as "conventional".
iPhone is so 2000 because nothing has changed since 2000, that's funny that you would say that the N4 copied the glass back because the LG Optimus G ALSO has a glass back, and i'm surprised that Apple didn't put a patent on it and sue everyone.
There's more artifacting in the nexus 4 because someone does not know how to hold a camera while the iPhone is clearly on a tripod
Where can I find the iPhone 5 wallpaper in this video?
Nexus 4: Hidden LTE chip; NFC chip (i.e., Beam file transfer, Google Wallet, NFC tag commands, etc.), and wireless charging.
iphone 5: same as the 2010 iphone 4, but with 4G LTE (which Android had 1.5 years prior to iphone 5).
Settings is right their on the first screen of the iPhone. No need to pull down the notif bar. And mind you, not all settings are on the android notif bar. There's a limit as to how many shortcuts you can place.

The iPhone 5's 'retina' display was designed by Sharp & LG.
You obviously don't understand the functionality of Nexus, what Jelly Bean is, what is a pure vanilla android, nor what is "Google Now."
If you're interested, fell free to read the article "AN IPHONE LOVER'S CONFESSION: I SWITCHED TO THE NEXUS 4. COMPLETELY." This would save us time for the both of us with this discussion.
Not my conversation, but... Just because.
Learn to live with that.
The iPhone may well have a couple of things which are SLIGHTLY better than the Nexus 4 but for the price, the Nexus 4 is twice the device the iPhone 5 is.
what background do you use on the iphone?
this review just make me want the nexus 4 more
You had to go there with the "did it first," did you.

Again, you seem to avoid the fact that Nexus is the device that receives timely OS updates. That's why I chose Nexus over the overrated S3.
I've been meaning to ask, is there a Long John Silvers on the island?
OK a nexus 4 user, but the iPhone has the crisper display and better camera.
Its kinda funny how you see Android fanboys trying to troll Apple on iPhone videos, but no Apple fanboys on Android videos. Its because Apple fanboys don't care what you think, nothing you say will make us change the phone we want. Vice versa.
Some iPhone users just buy it because they have all the apps and music on it from before and they are already in Apples ecosystem
Android started off slow but now has the bigger market share. I phone is ideally suited to younger kids and people who don't want to put much thought into how their phone looks and operates. oh they do? do you like going to settings al the time when you want to adjust something there that you cant adjust easily? huh? i dont think sooo.
he missed notification bar of nexus 4...the best notification bar till date, than any other phone
Both of them are great
If you prefer android = Nexus 4
If you prefer android = Iphone 5
SIMPLE!

how is pressing that home button twice more intuitive than a dedicated button.

This one not a bad review either but could definitely tell which one John personally likes more.
iPhone 5 is still doing good in 2016
This is "TH-cam Live"
Apple Fans vs Android Fans
For the price the nexus 4 obviously wins just because its value. But you do have to look at it in comparison of two flagship phones from 2 respected companies. The iPhone kills when it comes to software optimization and hardware. I mean you can't even compare the nexus GPU with the iPhone 5. The iPhone kills it. Overall amazing phones but the iPhone does slightly edge out the win. But I'll still be getting the nexus.
so Iphone 6 will have the same circular menu home button? are these recycled from the old ones that were not sold? lol
Google vs Apple....Wha-ohh this is just too good! (Buddy from The Incredibles)
For 299 you get a phone that is equivalent no even better than the 800$ iPhone 5..With an OS you can do anything with...We definitely do have a clear winner, the Nexus 4.
what video were you watching?
I was being sarcastic because he said that it had better viewing angels and is more responsive yet they were both made in the same company by using the same technology.
is there anyone at phone arena who is not an apple fanboy?
Hey guys, Johhhhhn V here from iPhoneArena. Bias 'reviewers'.
Although I like Apple, this is completely unfair. The nexus 4 costs 300 dollars unlocked while the iphone 5 costs 800 dollars unlocked...
It's funny how apparently the iPhone 5 display is better the nexus 4 since both phones have their display made by LG.
you actually can remove the battery on the nexus 4, just open 2 screws ...
