Men straightening Uncle Billies neck ties and laying track and coming North by train. And the more track they laid...More of the men came to help them lay track and to join them. Semmes made it into Tennessee and was fighting in hand to hand combat. RAPHAEL SEMMES is the only man that will not only be known as an Admiral but as a General, as well. The Union Captured him in Tennessee throwed him in jail. After the war and Andrew Johnson had reinstated the "Constitution," Raphael Semmes was allowed a hearing. Semmes had been an attorney, as well in his younger days, so, he plead his own case, in court and WON! The Union Freed Semmes, with Restriction, "Semmes could never again serve in any "Public Office." Semmes went home to the South. When he died, They gave Semmes the Highest of Honors.
