Could you do a stereo vs compound microscope video? I want a microscope, but can only get one, but I can't decide between the two. I like photography, so I don't think the stereo one would even work, right?

Just needed to check dogs skin for bacteria. Easy to use than going to work and way cheaper than the bill from the vet when in doubt.

If that’s what you get in terms of views for $80 when compared to the $3000 then that’s fantastic, obviously the definition, detail and colour in the high end scope is much higher than the $80 one but it’s still amazing for the price

I purchased this microscope before watching this. The phone handler is supposed to be screwed tightly on the eyepiece.

I'm an amateur who enjoys observing pond water microbes, etc. Where is a good source of identification information on most pond water inhabitants. Some things are easily identified, but others are not. Thanks for any advice on this topic. I really enjoy your videos!

Excellent video for those hat starting out. Would you consider discussing the use of vintage microscopes in another video? They are another affordable way to get involved with microscopy and with their own particular pros and cons.
In Astronomy and film W&B photography those color filters are used to change the color rendition, increasing contrast on certain features (Jupiter bands, mars ice caps, sky contrast, etc) depending of their colors. Try placing a specimen with distinct color features and use different filters to see if they pop-up with certain filtered light.
Also, I discovered this channel yesterday and love it!
They also use It in other kind of photograpy, including digital

I had just ordered the AMScope for kids (25.22) and found this site. After watching this video I bought this scope for 40.95 on ebay (24.50+16.45 shipping). There is NO comparison between the two. The AMScope is about 1/3 the size of the TELMU. With 3 boys plus myself both will get a lot of use in the years to come. You will have no buyers remorse with this entry level microscope. Watch the review several times and you will see what you get. It is worth the 80 or 90 dollars for this scope (even though I paid less) if you work at it you may even get it cheaper . Just noticed the Amazon link above has it listed for $79.99 .Can't wait for more videos with this microscope. Thanks for a great video!

Bought this TELMU XSP-75 for 50$ and think its a good value as well, The optics don't feel amazing but seems like i can see things fairly clearly. I quickly found my self needing more to use it properly. Main thing is a mechanical stage which i found 'Amscope MS90' for 24$ on amazon fits the stage. After installing i was able to view slides properly but started to see the eye strain issue even more along with the need for a stable base and comfortable viewing position. Now i need to find a decent microscope camera so i can view on a computer screen to fix both those issues

Hello! Thank you very much for the content! Your field of science is vety fascinating, and I was curious if you could obtain a sample of lung tissue to view under the microscope. I feel that the alveoli would be interesting to see under magnification.
I just picked this microscope up for $30CAD new in box on marketplace. I was hoping to get something a little better but this thing is actually excellent for the price. I am still hoping to come across something a bit better for a reasonable price but this will get me buy for now. I needed something to find out what i have going on in my reef tank. I figured i had dinoflagellates but i needed to find out exactly which one so i know how to treat it. Microscopy is very nead and interesting. Im looking forward to learning a lot from your channel. Thanks for making these awesome videos.

Having bought this microscope for my niece's last Christmas (on your advice - thankyou by the way - they loved it!) I am looking for something for myself. Would you still recommend this for an interested amateur or is there something better that has become available?
it directly runs LED with a pod as adjustable resistor you can replace battery with lithium ion rechargable and add a small connector or just use some rc toy battery with those connectors.
@A O ANY LITHIUM CELL runs at 3V-4.3V. They are SOLD AS 3.6V. White/blue leds directly on battery can run fine (3-4V) without any resistor. That is why they simply put 3xAA battery slots (1.5x3=4.5V ) and they just put variable resistor so you can dim it. Note that if you actually use rechargable batteries such as ni-mh it is actually 1.2x3 or 1.3x3 =3.6 or 3.9V again. Even a phone battery would work. Hi! I´m new to microscoping and think I will buy my first real one now when I started to make videos again, still a newbe but love to see beyond the eyes capacity. Thinking about a Swift 380T and then use my wife´s camera a Sony A5 something. Love this compare video.
I have just received my first microscope, with a very similar frame to this one but just lacking the extra light and soft focus knob. I noticed it has no mechanical stage, what are some good practices for moving the specimen around without a mechanical stage?

hello, have you checked svbony and aopwell beginner microscopes as well? especially for the svbony, it uses prism instead of mirror, has coated objectives, stage knobs, and other features that really helps beginners. it's relatively low price as well. just wanted to share :)
I just wanted to say thanks for the no-nonsense videos, after a £3 charity shop microscope I was hooked and looking for get a proper one now (well a cheap beginner one), this would have done me nicely but i can't find an easy like-4-like alternative - it's a minefield out there!
The slides have sharp edges.....and the covers are worse. The covers I used brake just dropping them on the table. But that,didn't stop me from using them....along with a chemistry set!
I'm curious if the mirror could be changed out with a prism specifically cut for the smaller device.

I see that you are a microscope guru on youtube so maybe you could give me a tip and tell me which microscope should I buy as a beginner hobby? I just want to say that I want to be able to connect my microscope to my PC and look on samples thru the computer screen not only thru microscope lenses. And 2nd thing I want to be able to make a pictures of water bacterias,etc and save them to the computer, so I want something for begginners but not too simple . I want to be able to have a nice zoom and crystal resolution.Do you think I can see moving bacteria , daphnia magna etc? thru that cheap microscope?

Microscopy, and to a lesser extent astronomy, became fun for me later in life with evolution of digital imaging devices. Cameras that enabled me to see images from the scopes with the unaided eye due to astigmatism. Perhaps, in a later show, you could add an inexpensive digital imaging device to this microscope? Thank you. Your videos are very informative, and your enthusiasm makes them easy to watch.
I think the easiest imaging device (camera) that can be added is a standard mobile phone over a mobile phone adapter. Mobile phones allow also for HD video, which is currently not possible with USB2 cameras (too slow data transfer to computer). USB3 cameras work for HD video but are expensive.

Can you give us suggestions on mid budget eyepieces and objectives that fit this telmu microscope so that we can tailor it to our specific need? I use this one for dog fecal examinations for egg larvae . For example a brighter led bulb or how to put on a movable X Y stage or if we can add a double level stage?

I bought this microscope after watching this review and I am very pleased. I got it to explore the world with my 4 year old. Thank you. You did mention that the box warned that children should not use the device because of "sharp edges," and you couldn't find any sharp edges. It is true that the microscope has smooth, rounded edges BUT mine came with prepared slides that were wickedly sharp. The slides had bug legs and onion skins, etc... on glass that was sharp as razors. I put them away and ordered additional slides that were much safer. Just thought I would mention that. I love your videos. Thanks again.
Thank you for the info. I have already tried to smoothen the edges of some slides with very fine sand paper. Takes patience, but it possible of one is careful.

I got an $80 AMScope M150 basically the same design, lots of the cheaper 'scopes seem to share parts and manufacturers regardless of whos name is screened on it. Other than the absolutely filthy optics its a damn solid scope. I do fabrication and machining for a living so it wasn't too big of a deal to take apart the objectives and give the bits a bath. If you're similarly handy, they're pretty fun to tinker with. Get everything into alignment, adapt an old webcam or mount a (d)SLR to it. Itll pull decent images with very little fiddling. The objective turret is a little off lens to lens, but at $80 im not mad about it. These cheap 'real' microscopes are great for people who are interested in microscopy. Plenty of interesting things can be resolved for a general passing interest in the tiny world. If you're debating on getting a cheap scope, just do it. You won't be disappointed. My only advice I have is spend the extra few bucks and get one with a binocular head. Youll want to stare into the tube for a long time looking at all the interesting things, and that will make it far more comfortable.

I'm interested in organic gardening and live in a place where the soil food web may be a tad weak. I'm looking to get a microscope that will allow me to see bacteria, fungi, and nematodes. I bought this microscope yesterday from a guy who never used it, the box was sealed and a the parts were new. It is a ver good microscope I was able to see bacteria and some rotifers with it. I paid $35 for it. :)

Hi there and merry Christmas. I was wondering if you have or can do a review of a microscope with a built in LCD display similar to the celestron pentaview and bresser biomax touch? My eyesight is such that I find it impossible to use traditional eyepieces any more and I don't want the faff of connecting to a laptop or PC. Thank you.
If you get a camera with HDMI out, then you can connect it directly to a monitor (without PC). The larger screen is more convenient, than the small display which is connected directly to the microscope.

can you suggest a digital microscope x1000 around 100/150 dollars ?
I now have a microscope - bought second hand off ebay. It a monocular compound microscope that cost £80. It is badged as a VWR VisiScope microscope ML 103, but does not quite match the listed specification in that it has a mechanical stage and a condenser which do not appear standard for that model. There are some other differences that make me think that the one I have is an older version that has been upgraded.
Better microscopes are generally very modular so that they can be adapted to specific needs. If you visit the website of VWR, then you can see that they offer a variety of "different" scopes, which are different just by the features that they have attached. It is common to take one microscope base and then mount the features (mechanical stage, condenser etc) as needed. It is also possible to exchange the objectives etc. The student versions might not include condenser and mechanical stage, but the ones sold for research might have them connected etc.

Guys, i just found a used old russian micriscope Lomo Mbr 3. It's a professional micriscope from 1970s and the price is similar to todays entry level microscopes. The only thing that worries me is that it has a mirror Instead of bulb at the bottom. Is that a problem, can this be replaced?

Distance between mobile phone and eyepiece is too large so the viewing field is small. The eye relief and phone adapter don't match well creating a big gap.
Must refocus when switching objectives.
Images appear mirrored (backwards). More of an issue if looking at letters.

Very useful video. That microscope is currently $65 on amazon--so cheap! It would be nice if you would review one that is slightly nicer but still cheap. Basically one with a prism and better optics but otherwise like this one. I want an inexpensive microscope but I think this one is shooting just a little low.
