Giraffe observation during solar eclipse at Saint Louis Zoo

Members of our animal care and behavioral science departments had the unique assignment of observing the Zoo’s animals during the eclipse yesterday. While everyone reported there was no significant reaction by Zoo animals, they all noted hearing an increase in native insects calling. Enjoy this video taken in Red Rocks featuring the giraffes before, during and after the eclipse - with a soundtrack of the scissor-grinder cicadas and a symphony of other insects.
