How to fix motorcycle carburators that are leaking from the air box.

This 1981 Yamaha Maxim XK650 was leaking gas from the rubber air boots. I had to change the needles, clean the seats, test the floats, adjust the float level's, blow out the fuel ports, and add a fuel filter as I Fixit for Josh Sake.

When I set mine on the same bike the manual says not to depress the spring loaded tips in the needles. Should be just resting on and not depressing. Checking with the carbs tilted at a 45 degree angle the floats will just rest on that needle without depressing the spring. Completely upside down will depress that spring and give a false reading.

I didnt know that liquid fuel levels were available for motorcycles. Can you tell me where u got the info for your bike please?

@@bobhyde4793 the original shop guide for the bike had 17.5mm listed, but by 1984 the shop guides changed to just listed the 3mm fuel level spec. xjbikes.com has a pretty good discussion about this topic.
