How to remove the Side Covers on a Melroe Bobcat
I had to replace the pin bearings in the clutch plates of this 1964 M444 Skid Steer. I found that the shop guide didn't have a full explanation of how to remove the side plates. This lack of knowledge could cause a person to bend, damage, or break something if it's not done correctly. Watch how to correctly do this as I Fixit for Josh Sake!

Restoring a 1976 Arctic Cat Pantera snowmobile suspension by using Electrolysis to remove rust.
Excellent video. I am an experienced non-pro mechanic and it was helpful to watch the job being done before I tackle it. A safety point: It is not a good idea to strike the lock ring with a ferrous metal tool (screwdriver) in the presence of a highly flammable liquid (gasoline). Removal of the locking ring is more safely accomplished with a brass punch. Amazon sells a $16 purpose made tool that grips the ring and allows removal with a breaker bar. (Didn't work for me. Too much rust. Used the aforementioned brass punch.) Amazon also has the lock ring available for $16 so the old rusty one doesn't have to be reused. You seem like a really good guy and I very much appreciate you taking the time to film and post this!
The caps come off to adjust clutch's mine has the original wench . Don't see many 444s with onan another guy got one and blew up the motor doc some body on utube
That's what I've read too. I've adjusted mine like a trailer hub; just tight enough to not restrict the smooth rotation and then back to the closest cotter pin hole.
@@fixitforjoshsake you should do a video on the governor linkage and spring . My 444 was rigged and I'm lost on getting the load right
I just put my 444 back together having trouble with governor spring it was missing when I got the machine and belt adjustment The three bolts , not having the split shaft I put a spare belt on the shaft . My onan motor was painted white I painted it black the onan green looks better. Send pic of your governor spring? If you have a magnet put rubber hose around it and about half inch above then it will pick up and not stick to the metal.
Thanks for explaining the procedure on how to remove the side plates on the bobcat 444. I'm sure it will save people much frustration.!!!
Thanks for the awesome video
Awesome idea to drop a magnet in the bottom of the chain case to catch any remaining metal filings or metal fragments that might try to circulate
I didnt know that liquid fuel levels were available for motorcycles. Can you tell me where u got the info for your bike please?
@@bobhyde4793 the original shop guide for the bike had 17.5mm listed, but by 1984 the shop guides changed to just listed the 3mm fuel level spec. xjbikes.com has a pretty good discussion about this topic.
@@fixitforjoshsake Thanks for the info
Awesome photography and precise information on the rebuild of faulty carburetor performance!!!
@@ruthmcneely4244 thank you! This one was a challenge! Lol
When I set mine on the same bike the manual says not to depress the spring loaded tips in the needles. Should be just resting on and not depressing. Checking with the carbs tilted at a 45 degree angle the floats will just rest on that needle without depressing the spring. Completely upside down will depress that spring and give a false reading.
You still have the dirtyrango! I seem to remember a radiator replacement back in 'Nam
I seem to remember a great friend, such as yourself, staying up way too late and helping me replace that radiator! Even after working an all nighter! Many a Thank Yous! ... Still!!!
@@fixitforjoshsake ain't no thang, that's what friends do 🤙
Yes for carb screws get a hand impact driver cheap as a heavy hammer and some wd 40 spray after 30 years know they say honda uses js screws technically not philips scews that might not be case usa made goldwings
You dont need remove tops the carbs on right side .but no one mentioned metal pipes yours doesint seem have mine a 84 gl 1200 one got that from underneeth carbs where not stuck
Awesome step-by-step walk-through on how to change the fuel pump on your 99 Dodge Durango
Currently I have a 1983 GL1100 Goldwing I am working on, having some trouble with airfilter, its a K&N and looks exactly like yours just different colors obviously, and it would not fit for some reason. Although it was old we just dented the top since it was a few centimeters too high it would not seal with the rubber on the bottom. Just did that to be quick and figure out if bike runs (which it does). So now I'm trying to figure out why it didn't fit, and where to get the new rubber between the filter and the engine. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
@@jack17012 I've heard of people needing to put a pipe or cup the size of the outer center circle, maybe that's about 2.5", on the under side of the filter, and then setting a big socket on the top side. Then give that socket a wack a few times until the round recess is deep enough to seal like the stock filter does. I hope that helps for you!
@@fixitforjoshsake I could try that out, I appreciate it!

I just discovered your channel. Thanks for the vids!
Awesome video! I'm rebuilding 2 GL1100's, and I'll be upgrading both bikes with these coils. I have a '81 with a batwing fairing/custom paint and a '83 hard tail chopper. Here's a video of them th-cam.com/video/h_CrudwOX1g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dMg_i1gUiBlxwlLQ
Very cool!
Ty very much for making the vids you do !
I'm glad I could help!
i have a wheel horse tractor and always wanted to have a wheel horse snowmobile. very cool that you saw one!!
They sure are cool!
I've rebuilt several old homelite chainsaws . Mostly for friends and family but 4 or 5 of my own. They are kinda like an old hot rod car as in they need worked on from time to time but can still be strong and fun to operate. I found one on marketplace the other day that's a monster and I've never seen one so huge. Can't wait to tear into it and get it back to good condition
Nice tips on getting that antique HOME LITE xl chainsaw running great again. Enjoyed your comments and actually seeing it. Cut through some pretty big logs.
Excellent details and videography on taking the whole light XL completely apart and putting it back together again!!! I appreciate the comments the details make her break the job!!
Thanks. I've been dreading servicing the carbs on my son's 83 GL1100. This video made it look a lot less daunting.
You got it! The best advice I can give is really clean out the brass idol jets that aren't removable from the carbs body, and maybe take pictures as you pull things apart so you can look back at how they will go back together! Lol
I don’t care if its a coil from the international space station, who cares!??
Awesome! Good job! I just bought one of these out of a farm field. Has not run for many many years.
I love those kinds of projects! Great Job!
@fixitforjoshsake what spark plug are you using in your 292? I been looking online and can't get a for sure awnser.i have to clean up the points today and see if it will fire.thanks
interesting but my inquirey has to do with your bike I thougth i seen a batwing fairing on it and i'm looking for mounting brackets for my 83 gl1100 a name or some pictures of how it was done appreciate anything info you have

Use high Temperature Silicone Grease when reassembling crusty old Threads..makes life easier and stops them corroding any further.
Appreciate your comments, they are genuine and easy to relate to!!!!
Great video. Not at all the procedure demonstrated in the factory service manual, never the less it all worked.
Que barbaridad.
3:51 Goes to show how crappy Dodge vehicles are... The Dodge car had 20 AWG wiring on the coil and the Honda motorcycle from 1975 had 16 AWG.
I have a 99 5.9L V8 Durango are all of the spark plugs the same size?
Yes, you'll want to buy 8 of the same plunges.
Love those old Panthers
They sure where cool!!
word of advice get a Japanese standard bit set for the screws. less of a chance of messing up screw heads
I've been price a set out. But they won't be in my craftsmen tool set, so they're hard to want to buy! Lol
hey i was wondring what size those bolts are
It was a while ago, but I think they were 8mm x 19mm if I remember correctly
Did you change the firing order on you neon pack ? I did as per another . It seems to run fine but ballast resistors gets hot as hell . Did you remove any of the wiring from the stock setup after installing neon pack
Hey David, I was really careful to color code and lable the wires, and in the end I did have to swop two wires to get the correct firing order. Those ballast resisters do get really hot! I clamp mine to the metal frame with metal house clamps to help dissipate the heat that they put off. I left all the stock wiring I could, but the points were pulled by the previous owner and a CDI was installed so some things are different on mine
great video, hope you make more I would love to see one describing all the electrical hardware and plugs that are attached to the motor.
Thanks for watching! I do have both the right and left controls in stock and will be installing both of them in a video soon. I'll elaborate on some of the other electrical system too at that time.
Wow, thanks for the awesome comments on getting the engine running after it's been setting for a season, those tips will save me a lot of frustrations !!!!!
I'm glad to hear that! I'm hoping that this warmer spring will make for a lot of really nice, and relaxing motorcycle rides, with as little frustration as possible! Speaking of riding. What's your favorite place you've ridden?
good video...I'm going to try something similar on my '86 gl 1200...
That's the one my Dad rides. When he got it I knew I wanted a Goldwing too! That will be a fun little project for you.

Hardware store c channel works great to replace the grouser bars on the tracks and give you 2 surfaces vs 1 on the original grouser bars
Interesting! Do you Heat Treat the C Channel before you install it on your track so it doesn't bend?
Great video. I love vintage sleds.
You and me both!!!
Thanks for sharing this great event! Amazon range in years and styles of these sleds!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Media blast it, then powder coat it!!
That sure would look nice! And that would be for the guys who have the resources and money...or even the need for that fancy of a restoration. My motto is function over fashion. Maybe someday I'll sandblast a skid or bulkhead and post a video of the process. That's a great idea! Thanks chuckc111
@20:50 When I was a kid my neighbor had a brand new, in the crate, 63' Sno-Traveler. Wish I knew what became of that sled.
Wow! That's a cool one for sure! I hope it's still out there riding over the snow drifts.

Wow!! I throughly enjoyed your video. I love vintage anything, cars, trucks, motorcycles. I never thought of vintage snowmobiles. I just found your post while looking through various videos. I’m going to watch it again. I missed some of it. I know Harley made snowmobiles, I didn’t see any on here. But I could have missed it. Thanks for posting, I really enjoyed watching it.
These old sleds sure are fun and unique! I didn't see a Harley at this show and they seam to be pretty rare. Maybe we'll see one come out to the next show. Thanks for watching!
