- Stereo Mix by Mot Mool (Motty99).
The song was written by Sandy Linzer & Denny Randell.
It was recorded by the Toys at Olmstead Recording Studio in New York City and released as a single in August 1965 (US) & October 1965 (UK).
The single had sold more than two million copies and was awarded gold record certification by the R.I.A.A.
The original version of the song was a major hit in the US and UK (among other countries) during 1965. It reached #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 & New Zealand, #1 on the US Cashbox chart (Billboard's competitor), and in Canada on the RPM national singles chart. It peaked at #5 in the UK Singles Chart.
In subsequent years, the song has been recorded by numerous other notable artists, including Cilla Black, The Supremes, The Delfonics, The Fleetwoods, The Lennon Sisters, Sarah Vaughan and many others.
It also had versions in Spanish ("Concierto para enamorados"), German ("So Fängt Es Immer An"), Finnish ("Aamukonsertto"), Japanese ("Delight").
Neil Sedaka had recorded an Italian version ("Lettera bruciata") and Ferrante & Teicher did their own cover as well ("Familiar Concerto").
Who's still listening to the fantastic music in 2024
Many still listening because it's really fantastic.
So, while I was listening through music box melodies I came upon this one. :) th-cam.com/video/l6Qb9w8dsCI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SXE2yqN5xBdFiP79

That is what I thought
My God this song is fabulous, I was seven years old in 1965 and remember hearing this song on the radio while driving in my parents car, I will always love this song, a true, classic by three beautiful ladies..❤️
Many thanks for listening & watching Kevin.
@@jacob6657 you’re welcome Jacob, now a subscriber…😀
I have the same memory... 7 years old, on the radio in my parents car
Thanks very much Greg. Now, you can finally hear it in stereo !
I was 4 in 1965 & I remember my sisters playing this & the tune never left me - 58 years later. I think its one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. The lyrics are straight up poetry, and vocals are just perfect. Simply beautiful music. Well done ladies
This song has been covered by other artists but the TOYS really do own it.
Yes, indeed Kenneth.
Thanks very much for listening & watching.

Many thanks for listening & watching.
Exactly 💯
I had the privilege of getting their autograph when the Toys appeared at the world famous ApolloTheater 125th street in NYC NY,...I was 15 yrs old...... WOW them girls could sing! 💥💯
Thanks very much Loutrrell for sharing this experience.

Thanks very much Mariano for listening & watching.
I was in Bermuda in 1966. I saw these ladies perform in the Forty Thieves Club in Hamilton. They sang this hit song and gave a terrific performance and were so friendly to the audience.
Thanks very much for sharing this story. I think you were very fortunate to be able to watch the Toys live.
Beautiful story✨🤗Wish I had been there. The Toys were magic. I was 11 and used to drive my Mom nuts turning up the volume on the kitchen radio and when I didn’t ride shotgun yelling out from the backseat when I heard the intro, “Oh, turn up the sound😀!”
One of the most beautiful songs of all time! ❤️❤️❤️
Yes indeed Ken. Thanks very much for listening & watching.
I wish we had great music like this happening again. Take by example, The Funk Brothers (music for the musicians) were the absolute best.
Many thanks Boris.
I wasn’t lucky enough to be alive in that time, but this song, along with “Take Good Care of My Baby” and “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” makes me feel like I lived it. I like to think songs like these capture the essence of that time period.
Many thanks for listening & watching.
I’m 42, and loved this song since I was very young!!!
Many thanks for listening & watching.
Every week back then, brand new, amazing songs, unique and always progressing were released. It was an explosion of music never to be seen again.
Thanks very much for listening & watching.
I was borned in 1957 and listened to this as a little boy back in the mid 1960's, it sort of puts me flying through the clouds above in some parts of the song and today in 2024 it still does. Infinitely better than condescending/awful/nasty/racist/sexist rap and most hip hop music.
Thank you very much Pauley.
Same here. So what happened ? Where did we go wrong? I mean look at these beautiful women belting this classic out .
Many thanks Claudio.
@@claudiocorleone7856 That's what baffles me, when growing up I got along with all races and blacks were friendly and didn't see them as victims but fellow Americans. From 1980's when they starting to glorify gang behavior and stealing because is cool for them, that's where they lost it in the early 1980's in music and rap lyrics.
a beautiful love song. Zion X
Thanks very much Travis.
Real Music !
Thanks very much Phil.
A really great love song. Three pretty faces. Three fantastic voices. What more could you ask for.
Thanks very much Peter.
What a wonderful song, performed with such Grace and Harmony by a great bunch of girls. Thanks to the Toys for a wonderful memory.
Thanks very much Vincent.
Hard not to agree. Delivered with emotion that fit the lyrics (in contrast the version by The Supremes comes across like an upbeat xmas carol).
Gracias exelente supertema ❤🎉
Thanks very much for listening & watching Jose Luis.
Flashback to a time of youth, innocence and family.
Many thanks Scott.
THIS SONG REMAINS AS VIABLE TODAY AS IT DID 55 YEARS AGO TESTAMENT TO THE SONG AND THE TOYS THEMSELVES.
You're absolutely right Scott and it sounds even better in stereo.
This is what I call a perfect song.
Yes, indeed !
Best version of this perfect song!😊😊😊😊😊😊💖💖💖💖💖 I feel God's warmth and love with this song! Not sure why but I love it! My mom would always play this in 1979.....she still does! I love all you my brothers and sisters! We are all God's babies! Especially you mamma! God blessed me with your love and warmth still to this day! I'm so grateful! GOD IS GOOD! HE IS ALWAYS PROTECTING YOU.....💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖☮✝

Thanks Dennis - indeed, a great song and now it sounds much better in stereo.
That's a very familiar sounding melody, based on a Bach or Mozart classic I wonder?
Greg, the tune is based on Minuet by Bach.
@@jacob6657 Thanks, I love this song!
👍
I love all the falsetto parts. It has some kind of magic that made me feel different. I'm 37 now but this song brings happy and sad feelings to me. I dunno what it was but I love this song.
Thanks very much Mark for listening & watching.
Haunting...enchantment...rarest of all... innocence pure as pure can be... just magic sublime.
Thanks very much for listening & watching.
class and style, when real talent was showcased
Thanks very much for listening & watching.
A great way for ppl to hear Bach
Thanks very much for listening & watching Raven.
I heard the kids in one of the music classes here being taught this song (just the melody) in their group piano class, and it drove me NUTS! I knew I'd heard it back in the 60s but the Thai teachers here of course had never heard that pop song. Searched for days, didn't know the group, only that it had been a girl singer. The only "lyrics' I could remember were something about the rain, in the opening line. But I knew the melody had been lifted almost unchanged from Bach, so I searched all kinds of differently-worded queries, and just found it now!!. Like finally getting a splinter in your finger out....the rush of relief....plus, I get re-united with a classic! Great old tune!!
Thanks David for sharing this. I'm glad you like the clip and the new stereo mix.
Hit number 2 in 1965. When you hear it today, it is still a classic!
Thanks very much for listening & watching.
I remember when it was #1 knocked the Supremes out of position "I Hear A Symphony"....
@@loutrrelledwards2341 never reached number one in the billboard top 100. It reached number 2. Its actually listed as one of the best songs to NEVER hit Number one.
@@loutrrelledwards2341 The song was kept out of the number one position on the Billboard chart by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
We learned to play Bachs minuet in G on the recorder at secondary school, which became a classic as Lovers Concerto. I want to find my old recorder and do it again.
Dear old Mr Bevan at St Crispins hated my singing but loved my recorder playing.
Dave age 70.
Thanks very much David for sharing this experience.
One of the best songs ever wrote it has it all. . .
Yes, indeed. Many thanks Rose.
This has been digitally cleaned. But if you listen to the original recording, their high notes rattle the source tape and equipment of the time as it can't handle the high frequency of their voices. That'ss why i love the original so much. I played it many times as a DJ.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Oh yeah, the great Girl Groups of the 60"'s, first 45 rpm record I ever bought, 98 cents! Plus Doo Whop, R&B, Soul, POP, the Motown, sound great music, good times.
Thanks very much for listening & watching.
I remember this song When I was 4years old...Im 56years old...I just love this song 🎵 ❤ I really wish they can make music like this...

Great song. It brings people together. I never get tired of listening to this beautiful song. Music and lyrics perfect.
Thanks very much Bruce.
Been looking for this song for a year now. I had the tune in my mind and could only remember something to do with rain and a rainbow. Made more frustrating the fact that the guitar album Dan & Dale covers this song as JB on the Rocks. Came across Spanish singer Karina singing it which lead me here. So happy I finally found it. I was in elementary school when I first heard it.
Many thanks Andre for listening & watching.
Played this beautiful song at my 50th wedding anniversary! Thank you Sebastian Bach for such a gorgeous melody!
Thanks very much Suzanne for listening & watching.
The melody is actually composed by Christian Petzold, exposed in the online sources.
It's a beautiful golden oldie song of the 60s and lots of great memories. Love this song and dun get to hear this kind of music in today's generation.

Beautiful melody such as this song will last forever. The tone stuck in my mind, even though I might not remember the lyrics. That is the true power of a great piece of music. Simple timeless!

I saw them at the Riveria Lounge in Yonkers, NY in 1966. They were great.
I can only envy you Tom. Many thanks for listening & watching.
Incredible
Thank you very much for listening & watching.
The melody is Johann Sebastian Bach or his wife, Anna Magdalena. Producer Mike Curb is credited for changing this from 3/4 to 4/4 or "common" time...
Yes, indeed. Many thanks for listening & watching.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Can’t remember who coined that phrase.
Used to listen this song when I was a teenager, and it made me daydream how loving someone outside my family would be like. It is a very nice song and one that won't ever become outdated. It says how real love is, and that is only one of its charms.
Many thanks for listening & watching Jorge Mario.
Love this, just love it. I really REALLY love this song
I'm glad you do Craig and it sounds even better in this unique stereo mix.

THE 2 BACK UP SINGERS ARE REALLY SMOOTH...THESE 3 LADIES CAN REALLY BRING IT HOME...GREAT BAND...
Many thanks Jeffrey.
I heard this when I was 10 and fell in love but didn't know what it was called. I kept it in my heart for years, but didn't hear it again till 18 years later when it was the hold music on a phone call in a film about murdering unworthy dinner party guests and burying them in the back garden as go-bags for tomatoes. You have been listening to Slim Pickings on Listening-in-Lockdown.
Misha, thanks very much for listening and sharing your memories.
Love it
Thank you very much.
One of the great songs of the 60's. I was 10 when this was out and still amazed that it wasn't a Tamla Motown song. Berry missed a trick with this one. Brilliant stuff.
Yes, indeed. It was one of the best songs of the 60s.

Yes he did. The Supremes recorded it on an album.

How gentle is the rain
That falls softly on the meadow?
Birds high up in the trees
Serenade the flowers with their melodies
Oh-oh, see, there beyond the hill
The bright colors of the rainbow
Some magic from above
Made this day for us, just to fall in love
Now, I belong to you
From this day until forever
Just love me tenderly
And I'll give to you every part of me
Oh-oh, don't ever make me cry
Through long, lonely nights without love
Be always true to me
Keep this day in your heart eternally
Someday we shall return
To this place upon the meadow
We'll walk out in the rain
Hear the birds above singing once again
Oh-oh, you hold me in your arms
And say once again you love me
And if your love is true
Everything will be just as wonderful
You'll hold me in your arms
And say once again you love me
And if your love is true
Everything will be just as wonderful
You'll hold me in your arms
And say once again you love me
And if your love is true
Many thanks for the lyrics.
