    Oakland, California 1969, I had an afternoon newspaper route and had a radio strapped onto my handlebars. I used to scour the AM dial waiting for this song to play so I could sing along. This song still has power. Thank you ladies, for your gift of song. 49 years later, it still reverberates...

      I was on the other side of the tunnel, doing the same kind of listening. Delivered newspapers too, did your papers get dropped in large green bins? I also did the local variety of what is now the only game in town. Paperboy, what a gig!

      Los Altos, California 1969. I was a sophomore in high school and driven to class every day by my older brother (who was a senior) in his '63 Triumph TR-3B sports car. The acoustics in that car were horrendous, but this song was constantly being played on KYA radio in San Francisco and sounded AWESOME...regardless of that noisy little car!

    I first heard this as bumper music on the Art Bell radio show (best late night radio EVER). He had fantastic bumper music! I remember being immediately taken by the song, then Art Bell started talking about how he was obsessed with it. Can't believe it didn't go higher on the charts in the U.S.

    RIP Misty Brown. She was a member of the Flirtations and I knew her well. She lived in Sonoma, CA and passed recently. She use to come into the Feed Store I worked at all of highschool and she use to buy Hay and any type of pet food to feed hungry animals around town. She use to sing around town all the time too. It was great to know you Misty. Maybe I’ll see you again one day.

    I called a DJ on the radio to play this song back in 1989, he thought I wanted Nothing But Heartaches by the Supremes ((another classic). I finally got him to realize what song I wanted, aftet he played it, he raved on and on about it, and started featuring it regularly on the Super Gold show in
    89 and 90.

      tomshiba51 Yeah I hear ya! For me it's the melody, one of the very best, and from an era where melody ruled!

    • @markwilliams8488
      @markwilliams8488 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree tomshiba51. There are so many genius production elements in this song it will insanely "hook" you, and you won't know why. Hooks abound in this song; the lines, "He's got me oh why, can't I get him?" absolutely wreck me, I feel like Pavlov's salivating dog waiting for it. I'd love hear a remix with individual tracks discernible; but even then the "magic" (literally) in this cut could never be intellectually figured out. I'm a fan of 60's music, and I can't recall ever hearing this before - that in itself is pretty strange...

    I remember hearing this song back in 1993. I was listening to AM Radio, WHNE or Honey Radio (oldies) in Detroit. The station only broadcasted during daylight hours. @philipbaca8861 Ironically, the orchestration for this song was by Johnny Harris, who happened to collaborate with Tom Jones in the late 1960s. And the drummer on the song? None other than Chris Slade, who recorded everything Tom Jones touched in the 1960s (and would later be part of AC/DC).

      It was the timing as well. In reality The Supremes were the only "Girl Group" to survive The British Invasion in 1964 with The Beatles. In 1967 they lost their Songwriting Trio of Holland-Dozier-Holland and their popularity on the Charts waned. Girl Groups at that time had pretty much dried out and Martha & The Vandellas and The Marvelettes careers were pretty much over.

    Where was this song when I was a teenager? I would have bought it after it hit the record shops. This classic is absolutely beautiful. The Instruments & the vocals from the Sisters is OUT OF SIGHT! 60's - 70's acronym back in the day. The Flirtations you have just made me a fan. Ya Heard Me? Holla! T'Challa! Delfonics Forever!

    Wow. Isn't it strange that with all the music that's been recorded over the years, songs like this disappeared from the general consciousness. Oldies stations and compilation records are the same old same old, and it isn't until we happen across one like this that it all comes flooding back. Oh yeah, I remember this song. And with it, memories that haven't been pulled off the shelf for decades. Thanks, MusicMike! You get it. You know the power of music.
