As a Nail Artist myself I have another hack for you, specially if you are a smoker and you usually paint your nails in white or pastel colors, cigarette can stain your nail polish and it doesn't look good anymore. So after you get your nails done at the salon (semipermanent nailpolish) you can put regular top coat on top of your semipermanent top coat. So if for any reason your fingers get stained (cigarettes, etc) you can just wipe of the regular top coat with drugstore nail polish remover (not the one for semipermanent) and the stain will be off. Then you can put regular top coat on top again.
I definitely agree that nails speak a TON about a person without them even speaking. I personally wear my natural nails very short and well manicured. I only wear red, nude/white, and pinks on my nails and the nail system I use is called Dazzle Dry 🙌🏽. I used to wear other colors but as my style has evolved, I have become more traditional. And I CANNOT wear long nails. In my opinion shorter nails look and work best for my lifestyle! #Teamshortandsweet
I remember when I was having my manicure for my wedding day (almost 15 years ago) and really wide bright white French manicures with a very blunt long square shape was “on trend”. But I remembered that one of the photograph poses I wanted to do was mine and my husband’s hands with our wedding bands on, held over my flower bouquet. My mother and father had a photograph like that on their wedding day and I just love it. I remembered that my mother had soft oval nails with a very light pink, almost clear polish. A very traditional look. So that is the shape and color I chose. Every time I see our photo (which I have framed hanging in our living room), I am so glad I decided to go more traditional with my shape and color. I know it seems like such a small detail but it made all the difference for me. I’m not saying that it’s for everyone but it was definitely a good choice for me. I love all of your nail suggestions and although because of my work and my hobbies it’s hard for me to keep even a 1/4” over my fingertips, I keep my nails nice and neat and my hands well moisturized because all of the women in my family, although extremely hard workers and cooks, have gorgeous hands and nails. And I’ve always admired them. When I think of my Nonna, I always remember her weekly manicure with a very light rose polish and smooth delicate hands. Her “secret” was olive oil on her cuticles and hands before bedtime with white cotton gloves. I do that in the winter or when my hands get dry. Bonus tip: olive oil is wonderful for your elbows as well. ❤️
A few tips i realized for myself based on personal experience: *_1. Find a few go-to colour for everyday wear and stick to them_* (this will help when you can’t make decision for what colour to wear to an important event - go with the one you love the most or most confident in. Also, if you wear one particular colour often enough, people would notice and give compliments - which also helps with decision making) *_2. Have at least one go-to nail polish colour that matches your go-to lipstick_* (that is, you do wear lipstick and nail polishes at the same time. Obviously its completely fine if they do not match - one of my fav nail polish is a deep blue and I’ll never wear blue lips, but if I’m going to an important event and would like to look a bit more put together or sophisticated, my trick is to match my nails and lips, go easy on everything else. That combo is my confidence booster and have been working for me for years now.) *_3. Similar to one of Jamila’s recommendations, take care of your hands by exfoliating on regular basis and moisturizing on the go - find a hand cream that you love and are willing to use_* (trust me I’ve had my fair share of money spent on “trendy” or popular hand creams and currently using 1 particularly brand in 1 particular scent that I love)

I'm not in school, but used to work out during my work lunchbreak. Definitely not enough time to shower, so I brought a small hand towel, and a ziplock bag with a flannel and soap, and a change of undies and socks. Quick wash with the flannel and soap, reapply deodorant, fire in a bit of dry shampoo and restyle the hair, and you'll be good to go! Use a chemical exfoliant under the arms, it won't stop sweat but it does prevent a smell. I've always had to walk with deodorant because of BO but it hasn't been a problem since I switched to daily chemical application

Thank you for this video. I’m a chemist and we are required to have short nails and most especially not to put on nail polish as part of laboratory safety. So it really depends on one’s profession.
Loved listening to your nail method, thank you. I am a big fan of carefully maintained hands and nails. FYI: Nails grow laterally (across) which is why they break easily when filed round or oval (there is less nail at he tip). You will notice that nails usually break or crack straight across. Filing them more square or squoval keeps more of the nail on the sides as they grow. This will make nails less likely to break.

Being a Libra, I love when a lady takes care of her nails. It kinda shows she has a good self esteem and self care routine. In most cases. Good hair and nails are very attractive.
My job is very rough on my hands, and keeping nail polish without chipping is very difficult. I now use ONE coat of an Essie pink that is close to my skin tone. Using one coat makes it less likely to chip, and using a skin tone makes any wear much less visible. I remove and re-do once a week. I make sure to moisturize my cuticles and hands throughout the week. I've been doing this for a while, and I am so happy to see my nails looking pretty good! It adds confidence, knowing that my nails still look classy after a day at work.
I'm watching this, the week Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away and you mention her. I love her. I'm so glad to hear a video talking as if she were still with us. Now I'd like to purchase Ballet Slippers by Essie 🇦🇺

I love your voice and the elegance it holds ! May you please make a video on femininity and how to soften movements and have a sweet voice or a softer one ?
Personally I really love to care for the shape of my nail and all, but keep it without any nail polish. I really love the natural look, but it needs some care💗 personal reference. Thank you for your video🙏🏻💙
This was wonderful 😊. I used to do my own nails up until late 20s. I finally decided to see what all the hype was about. Well, 20 years later still going to a salon. It took me two bad salons to get to the one I finally feel safe in. They will not accept home tools. Regulations. They do have a sterilizing machine there. New tools each person. Classic red will always be my favorite color.
Thank you for the useful advice! Hands and nails beauty make such a difference in a woman'a apprearance. If you enjoy cuticle moisturizing with home-mixed oils, a good idea might be to try adding a drop or two of your favourite essential oil. It boosts nail growth and works as aromathepary undercover as well. Have a great weekend, everybody!
Shellac is a brand of gel polish. So it’s gel polish but that Shellac brand is a staple so people don’t realize it’s just gel polish for anyone wondering. 😊 Love your videos Jamila!🤍 Definitely thinking of taking my own tools to the nail salon🤔
How to carry yourself when angry/injured/frightened without compromising your dignity and grace. That's what I tend to have trouble with, mostly because I've never had an example in my own life of how that might look. Recently, a large and terrifying rattlesnake made an appearance outside the door to my office and I was the first to discover it. I went back inside and closed the door to alert everyone and wait things out inside until a professional came to remove the snake... but I had to really focus hard to hold myself back from making a total scene when I first saw that thing on my way to my car. My initial instincts told me to jump, panic, and run back inside shouting about it to the entire office like a chicken with its head cut off. Maybe sometimes it's appropriate, or at least understandable, to lose our composure. But I'd sure prefer to be the person who is good at staying collected under pressure if I can help it.
Be sure to protect your very beautiful skin from the sun, Jamila. I started early for an American of those times, in my early 20s, but I already had significant damage. This convinced me to wear daily sunscreen and stop sunbathing when all my friends were broiling in the sun as much as possible. Their skin looks like wrinkled, old, spotty leather now. Also, just one sunburn increases the lifetime risk of skin cancer many times over.

Very interesting as always! Much as I love the idea of longer, elegant nails, my hobbies all involve working with my hands (sewing, knitting, working out) and they break every time! So I keep them as long as I can (quite short) and very neat. It'll do!
Hey Jamila, I haven't watched this video yet but I wanted to let you know that I've listened to your podcast episode. It was very informative and interesting as always! Keep up the great work.
My natural nails used to be super super brittle, thin, bendable, breakable. I started using cuticle oil regularly (anything is fine, like jojoba oil or squalane oil). If you get a dedicated cuticle oil, get one with vitamin E. I also started using Nailtiques formula 2 for soft/peeling/bitten/weak nails and it really helps with making them stronger. Now I regularly get dip powder nails or acrylic ombre nails once a month or every 6/8 weeks.
This video came out the day I was due to do my nails. I went to my appointment and tried a simple almond shape look and I am so pleased! Perfect timing 😁👍 Thank you
Thank you for your video. I became excited when I saw the title of your video because I always admire your beautiful nails and wonder how you take care of them. I do my own nails, and not only do my nails look pretty, to me, it is a relaxing activity in the evening after a long day. Since I started playing the piano again, I have to keep my nails short, but I don’t mind because I tend to pick under my nails when they are too long. I almost always have my fingernails painted a light pink or neutral color because they look ladylike. (I may go for red for special occasions. I used to occasionally wear dark colors, especially for fun occasions, but now they don’t fit my personality anymore.) I recommend Londontown, thanks to the Daily Connoisseur, because the polishes dry fairly quickly, last at least a good week on my nails (I love the gel top coat), and most other polishes make my nails peel but not Londontown. I used Londontown polish for a month-long Cruise, and my nails looked gorgeous during the whole cruise (I occasionally did touch-ups though). 💕💅
I always wore my nails super short, cut all the way down to my finger tips because we weren't allowed nails in primary school (in case of accidental or deliberate scratching). I recently let them grow out and I was happily surprised at how feminine they made my hands look! I wear them fairly short and rounded now. I tried longer but the nail on my index finger digs uncomfortably into my thumb when I'm drawing or painting.
To anyone considering Shellac: if you have soft, weak, brittle or otherwise compromised nails (not including biting here because that's a separate issue as far as I know) and use acrylic, gel, etc to protect them and make them grow, please be aware that Shellac might not be ideal. Rather strong chemicals are needed in the Shellac polish itself to make it last and be this effective, as well as when you have it removed. Will the nails grow longer with Shellac? Of course. There's little outside wear eating away at the tips. Will they grow stronger? In my experience (if you use them constantly), no. My pinky nails even halved in thickness. If you want to use them as a treat for occasions or similar, that's most likely fine. But if you renew Shellac every time it begins to chip (2-3 weeks depending on lifestyle and work) then you may start damaging the integrity of your nails. As someone prone to brittle nails, I can't speak for how much or little long term use of Shellac would affect those of you with stronger nails. But please take this possibility into consideration and watch out for it if you do switch. On a finishing note, I loved using Shellac for how long it lasted and how sturdy and beautiful my nails were, but in the end I'm more concerned about their health. It may work for some of you though.
So true, same with gel, what happens is they block air to your nails which makes them brittle. While arcylic and dip are just as damaging, they do have one benefit of having a “firm” structure to their formula which does protect the nail from breakage, as well as, if you do break a nail you don’t have to trim your others but can have an artificial tip placed on until it’s the same length as the others. I am a convert to dip and love these the most because you don’t need UV lights for them to dry and it’s a relatively fast process with durability and it feels more natural on your real nails like a gel but has the strength of acrylic without the risk of age spots on your hands.
I always aim for the square oval shape nails because I have long fingers. I just researched that nail shape and it means someone who is ladylike, assertive, and ambitious. These do so well align with me. The square shape like yours is the Vogue choice. Your nails are beautiful. Frankly, I had never thought about the nails shape meanings. Thank you. ❤️
I like cuticle oil, or even a dedicated lip balm - NOT the same one as I use on my lips, I’ll buy one with a different colored tube for my cuticles only. The brush-type cuticle oil is inconvenient, I’ll try your roller-bottle tip. I wish cuticle oils came with easier applicators.
Loved the video!!! I take really good care of my hands and nails, and love doing so. Just like you I do notice hands and nails instantly, they are so important, and does give a hint as to the personality as you said. Best regards!!!
Thank you Jamila, Your simple guidelines on the length and shape of classically elegant nails is something I have been hunting for, for a while. As well as your guidelines for makeup. Would you please do a video on hair etiquette? Can I touch it in public (adjusting it, running fingers through it, twirling it in the fingers)? At what point does the color and style become too much? How "clean" should it be? Stuff like that? Thank you again for all that you do!
I've been a piano student for the last 6 months now and I do miss my longer nails. I have to cut them every 4 days because I always tread the line with how much I can push it.
Haha I never like to grow my nails because I would always accidentally scratch and injure myself quite badly... As a hobbyist piano player and double bass player, hmmm I don't really like getting any longer nails but if I'm going to get nail polish, the nail polish always chipped =(
I used to have the prettiest nails. Then I started having thyroid issues. They are getting better after treatment but ohhh how I miss them . You can also use a piece of paper towel, nail glue and clear nail polish. Put a coat of clear on, place the single ply of paper towel over the break then 2 drops of nail glue. After its dry, another coat of clear .
Squoval and french manicure or nude. I would always say ”Would they receive me at the Royal House?” Later, when the Royal House in Romanian did receive me at an award ceremony, I actually found out Royal Houses havv an etiquette and I was well within it.
A little nail extending beyond the fingertip protects the fingertip, too, the most sensitive part of the body. When a few times that one of my nails broke at or below the quick, it really hurt for a week, until it grew out a bit. Getting more calcium in my diet eliminated this type of breakage.
Jamila, the La Roche cream is great but try also mixing a little of Bepanthol cream mixed in a hand cream to make a hand mask! Or alone as a lip mask (my favorite) or to hydrate the cuticles! I dont know if you have it, but here they make also liquid sprays and i love using it as a hydranting face mist. The main igredient of them is Panthenol (vitamin B5)
My question is about pedicures. Should the polish on your toes be the same as on your hands? I often see women who have red on the toes and nude or transluscent white on the hands or reversed. What is most elegant and acceptable?
I just have discovered you channel and wwwwoww... how could I miss it ??? Good continuation jamila and thank you for all the quality contents that you propose
My biggest gripe is that at any nail salon I go to, the nail technician never does my nails they way I specifically ask for them to be done. I even bring screenshots of how I want them shaped! Yet the technician usually gives me thick, bulky gels (so they look fake) with a pointy oval shape that I dislike. And I've never had a French manicure that looks elegant, they start the white band far too close to my nail bed so it makes my nails and fingers look short, stumpy and cheap. So now I do my own nails and can feel satisfied with how my nails are shaped and coloured. All I've ever wanted is a nail shape and colour style that is similar to yours and I can't understand why the nail technicians don't really do them that way.

I really recommend gel nail polish
I've also admired your hands, so well manicured and hydrated
Thanks!
I’m so glad you mentioned bacteria under your nails! Must clean that well. I scrub under my fingernails when I wash my hands. 👍
I'm watching this, the week Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away and you mention her. I love her. I'm so glad to hear a video talking as if she were still with us. Now I'd like to purchase Ballet Slippers by Essie 🇦🇺
Thank you! 🙏🏻
I want to have your soft demeanor and voice! Love your look and dressing. You’re so right. Nails make us look put together
Thank you so much!!
Dear Jamila, could you please make an updated video and share your current favorite elegant nail colors, including toe nail colors as well?
I can literally listen to you all day! Your voice is so soothing 😌
Thank you
I like how your thoughts on the best colors was so respectful, and how you declined to support less traditional choices without shaming them
Your nails speak a lot about you. Love that . 🤍🎀🌸
Absolutely stunning as always. Jamila never fails to create that air of tranquilness and calm. Thank you so much again for considering this topic , Jamila! Me as a constant nail biter due to anxiety needed a dose of motivation
thank you 🙏🏻
@@JamilaMusayeva you're most welcome😊🌸
I actually take my nail polish to the salon and have them use mine for manicures for the same reason. Uf they chip, I can retouch at home. 🤗
I love your voice and the elegance it holds ! May you please make a video on femininity and how to soften movements and have a sweet voice or a softer one ?
thank you! I will note it down ☺️
Breakfast etiquette. Would love to hear about it from you.
Personally I really love to care for the shape of my nail and all, but keep it without any nail polish. I really love the natural look, but it needs some care💗 personal reference.
Thank you for your video🙏🏻💙
You are welcome ☺️
Natural nails that are well cared for are soooo pretty.
I can listen to your voice for hours 🙏
Thanks!
Oh, the video so many of us have been waiting for. ♥♥♥ Jamila, I wish had an image consultant like you!
Thank you!
Your voice is so soft and soothing💕
Thanks!
I’d love to go to the salon, but I’d need to go twice a month and they are very expensive where I live.
@@Keapix Agreed it can be.
Perfect tip! Thanks!
Shellac is a brand of gel polish. So it’s gel polish but that Shellac brand is a staple so people don’t realize it’s just gel polish for anyone wondering. 😊
Love your videos Jamila!🤍 Definitely thinking of taking my own tools to the nail salon🤔

Great information. I also have found putting sunscreen on your hands will help with age spots.
Great tip!

Very interesting as always! Much as I love the idea of longer, elegant nails, my hobbies all involve working with my hands (sewing, knitting, working out) and they break every time! So I keep them as long as I can (quite short) and very neat. It'll do!
Thank you!
Jamila thank you so much for all your videos. From Dominican Republic. 🇩🇴

Perfect timing 😁👍 Thank you
Good for you!
Thank you for sharing the 'Shellac' tip with us. Honestly I didn't know that semi-permanent nail polish exist.

@@JamilaMusayeva Your welcome
You are welcome 🙏🏻
@@filipina0mami That's really good to know. Thank you! I might try that instead.
@@filipina0mamiI’ve never heard of dip nails, great tip! thank you 🥰
If u were the one taking me maths class ahhhhhhhhhh how glad I would have been just thinking about it

Thank you. ❤️
You are welcome ☺️
I like cuticle oil, or even a dedicated lip balm - NOT the same one as I use on my lips, I’ll buy one with a different colored tube for my cuticles only. The brush-type cuticle oil is inconvenient, I’ll try your roller-bottle tip. I wish cuticle oils came with easier applicators.
Hi Jamila, please consider doing an etiquette about wearing jewelries. Like which arm to wear watch? Etc.
People don't wear watch on their arms, wear it on wrists.
That's why it is called "wrist watch".
Loved the video!!! I take really good care of my hands and nails, and love doing so. Just like you I do notice hands and nails instantly, they are so important, and does give a hint as to the personality as you said. Best regards!!!
Thank you!
I love to paint my nails. Painted nails are so beautiful and elegant.
Thank you Jamila,
Your simple guidelines on the length and shape of classically elegant nails is something I have been hunting for, for a while.
I am always excited to see your video
Thanks!
When I’m a pianist and I really want to grow my nails a bit but I have to cut it super short :/
I've been a piano student for the last 6 months now and I do miss my longer nails. I have to cut them every 4 days because I always tread the line with how much I can push it.
Violinist here, same problem :)
guitarist here, we can only grow nail in one hand☹️
Haha I never like to grow my nails because I would always accidentally scratch and injure myself quite badly...
As a hobbyist piano player and double bass player, hmmm I don't really like getting any longer nails but if I'm going to get nail polish, the nail polish always chipped =(
@@cinnamongirl7623 whenever my nails get a bit long I get so annoyed by the clicking of my nails on the keyboard so I cut it out of frustration 😂

I agree that it's so much better to have more natural and muted colors, nothing too bright and every nail is the same. It's more classy that way.
I absolutely love the setup for this video. Including how your dress matches everything.

A little nail extending beyond the fingertip protects the fingertip, too, the most sensitive part of the body. When a few times that one of my nails broke at or below the quick, it really hurt for a week, until it grew out a bit. Getting more calcium in my diet eliminated this type of breakage.
I love 'ladylike' by Essie nailpolish, and for hand cream I use Supergoop! It has spf in it and evens tone
Me as a med student watching this in tears. Wish someday I get extensions too😢
Just listened to your podcast with Bianca and Anna! It was inspiring💞

Thank you for replying to my comment; it means a lot to me :)
My question is about pedicures. Should the polish on your toes be the same as on your hands? I often see women who have red on the toes and nude or transluscent white on the hands or reversed. What is most elegant and acceptable?
Omg I'm shocked, it's my first time seeing someone from my own country on TH-cam
☺️🙏🏻
I just have discovered you channel and wwwwoww... how could I miss it ??? Good continuation jamila and thank you for all the quality contents that you propose
Ma'am, I also have a request, please make a video on hair length as well and heels to wear on day to day basics
Please do a video on hair and jewellery etiquette .. 💖
