Haven't watched Cheers in a long time. What immediately strikes me about Kirstie Alley now is how much she reminds me of Lauren Bacall. Her droll delivery, their facial features and even their voices bear a remarkable similarity. Funny how I had never seen that before. Rest in peace Kirstie, and thanks for helping brighten our lives a little bit with your remarkable talent.
Rebecca was like Jefferson Darcy from Married with Children: Perfect replacements that managed to skilfully replace their predecessors and made their shows funnier. Kirstie deserved the awards she received.
Funny you said that, because Ed O’Neill was nearly cast as Sam Malone, and Shelley Long ended up playing his ex-wife on “Modern Family.” Also, regarding your comparison: *1.* “Cheers” and “Married With Children” both lasted 11 seasons. *2.* Rebecca Howe and Jefferson D’Arcy both surpassed their predecessors in the number of seasons/episodes they appeared in. *3.* Diane Chambers and Steve Rhoades were pretentious snobs. Rebecca Howe and Jefferson D’Arcy were gold diggers.

If Shelly stayed on cheers, it probably would have been over in a few years. Kirstie was a breath of fresh air and the show had new life. RIP our dear Miss Howe
The less said about her later years, the better. Kirstie Alley on "Cheers" was exceptionally funny. She could play the straight man one minute, and suddenly be a ball of hysterically crying jelly the next. RIP

I love this show. Shelly Long was amazing as Diane Chambers but somehow I love Rebecca a tad more. The whole cast was amazing. Woody, Norm, Cliff, Carla, Sam etc
@@TheSully00714 Wouldn't say unique since there are quite a few people who prefer Rebecca to Diane. Kirstie also received an Emmy and People's Choice for this role so I'd say she definitely was pretty well liked by most fans of the show, or at least a good portion of it.
