So true.. There are more than 1600 ethnicities in india.. Who have been wearing their ethnicity styled sari since their ethnicity birth..not since 100 years or specific year as fashion... This is more like hundred years of sari style in bollwood.. Even that ain't accurate since they showed last two as kanjivaram sari...and bollywood doesn't have kanjivaram sari as fashion trend..

agreed, especially the 1940s, 1970s, 1980s and 2000s...if I remember correctly, velvet choli blouses were popularised in the north by Nargis during the 1940s, whereas the puffed-up sleeves had a stronger following in the south. about the 1970's n 1980s looks, the only thing that came to my mind was Southern star Sridevi in Sigappu Rojakkal (70s) and her famous cameo in Jaanbaaz (80s), and finally, the Kanjivaram saree used in the 2000's look kinda speaks for itself ;) nonetheless a great video tho...

Vinnie Sachdeva Sad but true for the elite and upper middle class. Note that according to stats from 2014, only 30% Indians can speak English and further, only a third of this population has some semblance of reading and writing aptitude. Thus, the rest of the population is being oppressed by merely the lack of being fluent in a language not even their own (English everywhere on the Internet, government & legal documents, nutrition and medicine labels, TV, newspapers and what not).
The problem was wonderfully summarized in this article:

I understand some people can use it in a discriminatory way but that happens to almost all the regions in India and many times it's used in a generic way to address the region so no need to get offended. For example, my grandmother still calls it Madras and some of her distant relatives are referred to as Madraasi because that was how it was named - just like some people still refer to Mumbai as Bombay.

  • @Ramkabharosa

Absolutely fantastic. I was trying to select the decade with the best overall style - but I just couldn't do it - because for each decade there was, behind the saree, the same absolutely amazing model. Still I think decade 1910 was beautiful simplicity, 1920 was unencumbered elegance, 1930 was pure charm, 1940 was adorable innocence, 1950 was complete sophistication, 1960 was perfect cuteness, 1970 was serene sweetness, 1980 was totally sensuous, 1990 was beautifully fun-loving, 2000 was visually superb, and 2010 was splendidly sexy. Hai Rabba - they are all totally magnificent. I want to marry 1920, no 1940, no 1980, no 1990 - just give me any one of them. Okay, it's time to stop dreaming, I guess. Live long and always prosper amazingly beautiful model.

Actually we Indians wear it in such a way that it will never unravel even in heavy club dancing...(trust me,I have tried that. ;) )
Its just the way it is tucked and wrapped around the body making pleats.
