      Not actually..... Feminism is all about equality. It says, women= men; not women> men. The ones who use this ideology for any discrimination they are called Feminazis, not Feminists. Please don't get confused between these two words-- there is a differance between a struggle to get recognition and to oppress others rights.

    I've always loved sarees since I was a child. I always used to notice how my grandma & my mom draped their sarees, and I used to pester them to get me sarees even though I was a kid! And now, I wear a saree whenever I can, it's my favourite! Especially cotton mul sarees since they are so so comfy! I totally love our traditional cultural heritage! So beautiful ❤️ I don't think "The Saree" can ever go out of style! However it's styled 😍

    Women today sometimes say that saree is uncomfortable..But I have experienced that if one wears a saree made of good cotton or linen fabric it's actually extremely comfortable for indian climate.
    As ample amount of your body is uncovered it's easy, breezy.. handloom sarees are the best and they drape really well and smooth on skin.

    As a gen z woman, I’d like to mention that the reason I’m not enthusiastic about sarees is because Indian attire is expected of young women but not of young men. In weddings or other formal events, the men wear suits while the women wear sarees or other Indian attire. As if women are expected to uphold Indian culture and values while men are free to wear whatever they feel comfortable in. Although I can appreciate the cultural importance of sarees, I would like to have the choice to wear what I want to. When I’m Im forced to dress in one way, and shamed when I dress “western”, obviously I’ll develop an aversion to sarees. And to top it all off, it takes too much time and effort for me so 🤷🏻‍♀️ and also isn’t this in contradiction to your “women’s fashion is sew impractical” video?

    • @Priya-cm3tr
      @Priya-cm3tr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's perfectly okay if you don't want to wear sarees as long as it's YOUR choice because judgements happen with all kinds of things. Just like some people are forced to wear "professional dress" in an office environment when they wear sarees or suits even though they can be formal as well. Or when they are shamed if they like to wear too many ornaments over ghagra - shrangaar was actually a much-celebrated cultural practice NOT forced. It might be the reverse in your case where you are shamed when you wear western. Unless there is a dress code for a particular occasion and you are dressed appropriately in public it shouldn't matter WHAT your choice of garment is or how you style it. Obviously, you would develop aversion because of the attitude of people around you but that doesn't invalidate this video. Personally, I don't wear sarees coz I don't think it suits my body type but I love lanchas, suits and lehengas and can still appreciate sarees and will be open to trying those on selected occasions.

    Nice video but I was not happy from @3:14 because it seemed a little pushy for someone to tell others what they should wear. Perhaps it hits a nerve for many of us millenials as we are constantly told by society to wear such "Indian sanskari wear". So it triggered the way we feel during moral policing. Besides wearing it every day takes away the charm. My mom wears it in parties and suits on normal days so I find it glamourous but I have some relatives who wear it everyday due to which I don't find it much different when I see them at parties.

    Downvoted for the part from @3:14 onwards. I have seen and heard of too many women(including my mother) being verbally abused and discriminated against and finally forced to wear sarees both in professional and family settings. People should wear what they want to wear. Nobody should be forced/shamed/guilted/otherwise compelled to wear/not wear sarees.

Your personal experience doesn't discredit the validity of the video because while it's boosting the everyday wear of Sarees it is NOT demeaning other apparesl or advocating for compulsion.

    So, where is the history of the saree?

    • @svetlanalvova1128
      @svetlanalvova1128 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@piyalichhajed6009 Kindly don't swear at me. Yes, I watched it, to my regret. I came here expecting the video to be for an international audience and anticipating a real history of the saree. If this video is only for people native to Indian culture and related cultures, to whom the history, traditions, philosophy etc of India are a given, than the author should have marked it as such.
      All national clothes I know have philosophy, ages of experience and tradition of the people behind them. My own culture being Russian, I can write at least 10 A4 pages in small print off the top of my head on the history of the Russian national costume, both on the Northern and Southern types each.
      What do we have here on the saree?
      "The birth of the saree. The saree is synonymous with history and Indian culture, though, if you break it down, it's basically a long piece of fabric. The Ancient Hindus believed that stitching cloth made it impure, so they found innovative ways to stay sanaskaari, but make it fashion. With as much growth potential as men in the workplace, the saree soon became the garment of choice for many countries. The Mughals made it craze popular, adding dazzling embroidery and intricate weaving, and everything was going great until surprise, surprise, the British came along and decided that just one loooong piece of fabric was way to NSFW. Though colonization was totally cool, of course, and added a modest blouse and petticoat to complete the look."
      And that is all the author of the video has to say on the history of the saree.
      For Goodness' sake, this is the SAREE!!! THE SAREE!!!!! 5000 years!!!
      After that we have Khadi sarees ( yeah, let the international viewer stop the video and go looking for what exactly is a Khadi saree, instead of the author telling said viewer what it is and what it has to do with marches), representing freedom and empowerment and books on how to drape a saree and the women's apparel market in India.
      I can't say I learned anything about the history of the saree from this video.

      It's history starts some 5,000 years ago during the Indus valley civilization. Women wore cotton sarees and dyed them with natural colors. Also, one thing to be noted was that Hindus believed it was ill ominous to stitch cloth so Women would just wrap around the saree on their body and they were good to go.(anyone who wants to correct me or add something is most welcome!) 🙏

    Wear a saaree, it's not just your culture, your history but a great SYMBOL OF PERSEVERANCE IN THE FACE OF OPPRESSION. The British tried squash our traditional handlooms with all their might. Buy traditional handloom saaree on your trips to various parts of the country.. fill your cupboard with the fabric of India.
    ( P.S. It boosts rural economy, promote authenticity and eco friendly production)

    Cotton sarees are cool and comfortable. 😊It is the silk ones that make me sweat. 😓
    I realized this only after I wore my grandma's cotton saree for fun much later after that cumbersome silk for the Sanskrit drama.😄 (School's Annual Day celebration)

      Same mughal kings who raped countless no of women, when they were done raping then made intricate embroidery and then the women was happy again and forgot the crimes of Mughals.
