Very cool how they use "Monica" reading the scenes. I'm glad I saw Jeff Goldblum in this- he did some very creepy roles early in his career that I could never get out of my head but this let's me see him in a new light. Great movie.

I feel very lucky to have discovered this TH-cam channel. I have seen and watched many great old movies here that are not widely known by world audiences. The subtitles of the movies on the channel are generally very good. The movie Rehearsal for Murder (1982) should definitely be watched by those who love the murder-mystery genre. to aMan, we take too much for granted in those days of the 80's - virtually every skilled actor of those days was in this film, and Robert Preston the indefatigable man over decades was a perfect triumph. No swearing, no F words, no vulgarity, and a completely fascinating and intelligent script. RIP to all who have passed on, and long life to all the others! A pity that Heller did not make the credits.
Excellent film and a great ending. Just the sort of film I loved in the 1980s and they sure don’t make them like this any more. Thanks for the upload. If you are debating whether to watch this film, do watch it. You will enjoy it. Good mystery and brilliant cast!

I was shocked at how good this movie was, and it was the very first murder mystery that threw me for a loop over what really happened. A lightening in a bottle cast with a first rate script makes this worth watching over and over again. Robert Preston (RIP) headlining an ensemble of pure talent.. ALL of whom either had already done great things (and would do greater such as William Daniels) or who would go on to do great things themselves (like Jeff Goldblum) was pure genius on the part of the casting director.
My God, you should receive some compensation for this terrific review. I was just about to turn the channel, then you convinced me it's worth the view (although it does seem like an episode of "Columbo" or "Murder She Wrote".

Wow! I had completely forgotten about this gem. After watching this, many memories started coming back to me. I had just returned home from college and my whole family watched this together. I even remember my mom made a comment that its by the same people who created Columbo (her favorite show).

How was I to know it would be that good. Thoroughly entertaining each actor made the transition with authenticity. Completely natural. Levinson and Link were the exceptional talent behind the success of COLUMBO and other excellent TV movies so I was expecting this to be good, but not totally magnificent! The cleverest TV movie I've ever seen. Very good presentation spoilt only by the many annoying intrusive ad breaks. The only other movies I know of which tie up the viewer in mental knots are Sleuth and Deathtrap, both starring Michael Caine and definitely worth tracking down. 12.20 UK

I knew as I watched it that I had seen it before, years ago, but I really did not remember that twist at the end!! A really excellent movie. Boy I miss the days when movies were entertaining and intelligent.
So good. Awesome cast. Always amazes me that back in the day they cranked out so many good TV movies like this on modest budgets and short production times but now they spend tens of millions and take ages to make and can't do as well.

I'd never heard of this film until I stumbled across it and I have to say that it was pretty good. The only criticism I have is that the sound is a bit low but that's what closed captioning is for.

I think this was one of Jeff Goldblum's early roles? The lighting and video quality are poor, but that's to be expected from a TV movie that's nearly 40 years old. The story with its nice old-fashioned mystery and likable actors still holds up. I performed in a stage version of this play in Palo Alto, CA back in 2019 and hope we did this script justice!
Not really. His first on screen role was in Death Wish in 1974, and he was in Annie Hall in 1977, and starred in The Legend of Sleepy Hollowing 1980, among others.
This was enjoyable. The performances from actors were enjoyable. Preston was likeable for sure. The only problem is the ending and resolution is pretty weak. However this is typical of these type of murder mysteries. Overall was fun to watch! 👍😀
Bill McCamey was the on set nurse for the film. He was also the set nurse for "The Crow," "Pale Rider," "Predator 2," and "Cannonball Run II." And, he was a set welder for "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" and stage set constructor for "The Right Stuff." That's the kind'a person I want doing first aid on my movie! Someone who not only can patch you up, but can craft you a peg leg or hook if you need it as well! =D

"The play's the thing......" Takes me back to my high school days. Messrs Levinson and Link were the creators of Columbo, and masters of the convoluted plot. Must admit I hadn't seen this movie before, and apart from that Hamlet scene it reminded me a little of Michael Frayn's 'Noises Off'. Wikipedia tells us that Mr Frayn conceived the idea while watching a performance of a play he'd written for Lynn Redgrave, which is a very odd coincidence.

I was 9 years old when this movie aired. In my mind’s eye, at 50 now, everyone who have past on still lives through their work. A fun mystery!
